Fortinbras
The stallion's ears perked as Halloween began to tell her story. He truly was interested in her childhood. It always said so much about a horse's character. It could give insight onto why they act the way they do, what habits and mannerisms they have, even how they speak is due to how they were raised. It was just one little aspect of life that Fortinbras had always been interested in.
So Halloween had grown up on a farm. Fortinbras did not know much at all about life off of the island, but from what he had heard all horses had come from some kind of farm or stable. Some horses missed their old homes while others were glad to be gone from their old residences. Perhaps it was due to the humans they lived with. Just as he had heard good and bad things about farms, he had heard good and bad things about humans. Some of the stories he heard made him glad that he was born on this island. but, some stories did make him very curious about the rest of the world. Sadly, he would only know life on this island until his dying day, and that was just fine with him.
"Do you ever miss it at all?" he asked, curious to hear her position on the matter. It would be sad if she actually did miss her old home, but how could she since she was now living in an exotci place like this? Speaking of Isola Dei Dei, Fortinbras wondered how she arrived here. Perhaps that was part of the story not meant to be heard so he let it drop.
Halloween then asked him to share his childhood with her. The stag let out a small, sarcastic laugh. His childhood had been a complete and utter disaster. "Well, let's just say it was very... interesting. My mother never really acted like a mother at all. She only kept me with her until I was old enough to fend for myself, then she ditched me and went back to her old ways. It doesn't bother me though, I do not like her." he explained to the mare. "Her name is Ophelia. I have heard talk that she lives in Aro's herd now as their whore. That was all she ever was her whole life, a whore. I never knew my father, obviously, and neither did she. I think I also have two other siblings, but I can't be too sure about the second. I did see my younger sister, and she even traveled with me for a while. Sadly, she became like our mother and took to spending her days in the breeding grounds." Fortinbras continued on. "Perhaps you know of my mother?"
he asked, curious to see if his mother was still well-known around the island these days. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Sometimes.. I do miss it. Only my mother and my brother, though. My farther, I didn't ever really talk to. My mother wouldn't allow that, for some reason. The mare sighed, wondering why her mother would do something. Shaking her head slightly, ears flicked at the stallion's voice, listening to his childhood. Nostrils quivered ever so slightly at the name Ophelia. It, it did sound familiar.
I don't think I know her, personally. But I have heard of her. I was in Carzeth's herd when I had heard of her name, before Carzeth banished me for... her voice trailed off, and an anger filled her. Carzeth. How she wanted to just hurt him in the past, for pushing her out of her home, for dethroning her. Blinking her eyes, she looked to Fortinbras, and flared her nostrils. Not wanting to dwell on it, she snuggled her head into his neck, and breathed in deeply. The past, is the past. I shouldn't dwell on it that much... I have you, and I know that it's going to be an excellent future.
She was quite certain, so certain, that Fortinbras and herself would be side-by-side for a while. But, was she right?

Fortinbras
"I see." Fortinbras said quietly as Halloween explained about missing her family. He could understand missing siblings. He missed his sister dearly. He had tried his hardest to turn her from her mother's ways, but his attempt was done in vain. After several months with him, when she grew up a bit more she had told him that she was ready to go off and find a herd. Being who he was, fortinbras believed her and wished her well, telling her to visit often. She never did. One day, when he was passing through the breeding grounds. That was when he saw herr, flaunting herself to any stallion who passed by.
"Who hasn't heard of her." Fortinbras said with a dry laugh. It really was true. Even if a horse did not know of his good for nothing mother, they had heard of her at some point in their lives. It was funny, only things good that were said about her were said by dark horses who were nothing other than pleasure seekers.
He didn't prod any further on Halloween's past. He could tell that she did not want to talk about it at the current moment. Perhaps, in time, she would want to talk about it, and when that day came, he would listen. At Halloween's words, Fortinbras smiled. Hopefully they would be together for a while, but who knew what the world would throw at them.
"What about Verridith?" he asked, still worried greatly about Halloween's daughter. Until he found out where she went and if she was alright, he was never going to stop worrying. Deep down he had a fear that she would turn out like his younger sister did, which was silly since her mother raised her much, much better.

Verridith should be alright. If I know her well enough, she just went out to find her father. Ever since we last saw him, she has been asking me about him non-stop. Of course, I don't know that much about him, so I couldn't answer all of the questions she had, the mare frowned ever sos slightly, and nostrils quivered. If Verridith had gone to see where Oscurita was, then her life could be in danger. If her father was within Aro's land, Aro could take the young mare and do unspeakable things to her. As soon as the weather is better, we will go search for her. Right now, it's just not safe.
She was trying to convince herself now that her daughter would be fine, that no one would harm her little girl. Ears twitched on top her head, and she had almost convinced herself, when the memory of how cruel Carzeth had been entered. Eyes closed tightly, and she drew a shaky breath, knowing that all stallions were not as nice as Fortinbras was. There were stallions much like Oscurita and Carzeth who would force a mare if the chance was there. And that threat was still out there in Isola, no matter what kind of weather there was. Weather didn't matter when it came to forcing for stallions.
Opening her eyes slowly, Halloween expected everything was supposed to be a dream. That Fortinbras wasn't really there, that she was back in Carzeth's land, with Carzeth, back when Magic was being nothing but a little bitch in heat. But, Fortinbras was there, right beside her, and she sighed. Fortinbras... promise me... promise me you'd never hurt me. That you would never leave me no matter what. Her words were strained, filled with hurt, and she wanted to share with him the torments of her past. But, she felt that now wasn't the best time, not now. Possibly not ever.

Fortinbras
Fortinbras frowned at Halloween's words. He was scared for Verridith, out there all alone. The filly had been with her mother her whole life. Where she was going, to find her father, was a very dangerous place. There were many unscrupulous characters who wandered around those parts. They were very twisted individuals who could ruin a horse, especially a pretty young mare like Verridith in many ways. He did not blame her at all for wanting to know about her father. When he was younger, Fortinbras wanted to know his father, but that never happened. He had asked his mother about him but all he ever got was a 'shut up about it' or something along those lines. Verridith should be very grateful that she actually knew her father and was able to meet him.
A smile was brought back to the black when Halloween said that they would go searching for her when the weather got better. "At least we have some clue as to where she may be going." he said in a relieved tone. He would never be able to forgive himself if something happened to that filly. He just hoped that they would get to her before something truly terrible happened.
Fortinbras had not fallen asleep, he didn't need to. Instead he quietly became lost in his own thoughts as Halloween drifted into unconsciousness. A while later she woke up, asking him not to leave her. He was a bit confused by this, but gave her a sincere answer nonetheless. "Of course I'll stay with you Halloween."

speech ! thoughts !
The weeks had flown by too fast, but Fortinbras and Halloween had stayed within the cave, hoping that Verridith was alright. Now, the light bay Arabian stood at the mouth of the cave, looking out across the forest, the snow having finally melted away from the world. The greenery was slowly coming back, and a small smile crossed the mare's maw, as she spotted two birds dancing among the branches of the trees. Tail flicked slowly behind her body, and she sighed, eyes looking down at her hooves. She missed her daughter dearly, but knew that it was best to let the young mare live her own life.
Eyes finally left her hooves, glancing around, wondering where her companion had wandered off to. Ears tilted forward, as she walked from the cave, toward the beach. With the days warming up, she spent more and more time within the waters of the ocean, enjoying the surf, much like Verridith had. Moving slowly upon the sands, gentle brown eyes gazed across the beach, imagining when her young daughter had first stepped foot here, how excited she had been. But those were just memories now, the past, and that was how it was going to stay. Lifting her head slightly, the smelled the air, the strong scent of the salty waters clinging to it.
Shivering ever so slightly, she charged forward, plunging into the cool waters, turning quickly so she didn't get a face full of the waves rolling onto the beach. A smile still clung to her lips, as she did circles in the knee deep water, her hooves sinking slightly in the wet sand. |

Fortinbras
The previous winter had been a cold one. A very cold one at that. Luckily Fortinbras had Halloween to keep him company. Over the weeks they spent alone together they had grown very close, more than the 'just friends' stage, though either one of them had yet to speak upon the subject matter. At least spring was finally here after a longer than normal wait. It had to be one of the stallion's favourite seasons. Everything was new; lives, foliage, and new comers to the island. To put it in short, spring was exciting.
Fortinbras had woken up rather early, before Halloween, who he had last seen dozing peacefully in the shelter of their cave. The black was able to see the sun come up over the cliffs that decorated the edge of the island. It really was beautiful. Fortinbras had even thought about waking Halloween up so she could share the vista with him. Instead, the figured that she would want to sleep so he left her alone.
He had spent the rest of his morning just enjoying the day; wandering around, taking a dip in the sea. Now he was on his way to see if the chestnut mare had woken up from her slumber yet. He was always happy to see her. Everyday she would bring a smile to his face. He was glad that at last he had finally found something that made him happy.
He did not have to look far to find her. There she was, enjoying her time in the surf, playing and splashing, enjoying the day just as he had been doing himself. The stag raised his head and let out a whicker as he trotted into the water to join her.

speech ! thoughts !
The limp the aging mare had had weeks ago had vanished, the wounded leg now healed back, and it didn't bother the bay mare as she cantered through the surf, tail streaming behind her in the wind she created. Ears flicked upon her head, as she heard Fortinbras' whinny, and turned quickly, facing him and flaring her nostrils. A soft whicker escaped her, and she trotted toward the black stallion, neck arched ever so slightly. Upon reaching him, she reached her muzzle out, touching his cheek gently. Fortinbras! Good morning! It's so beautiful outside, we surely have to savor this wonderful weather, the mare did small circles around him, nipping his hind and shoulder playfully. After a few more circles around the stallion, the mare bolted off through the surf, letting out a wild whinny.
Nostrils quivered ever so slightly, as she spun within the water, the cool drops dancing across her half-soaken coat. Her once gentle eyes danced wildly, as she stared at her companion, nostrils breathing in the salty air. Excitement coursed through her veins, a feeling she hadn't felt in quite some time. The thoughts she had been thinking before of Verridith had vanished from her mind, her thoughts consumed on the beautiful day at hand and what the pair would be doing. Throwing her head into the air, Halloween reared as a wave crashed into her legs, another whinny escaping her as she stared at Fortinbras, waiting for him to chase her down the beach. |

Fortinbras
The black stallion smiled when he saw how happy Halloween was today. If she was happy, he was happy. That was how it had been working for him for the past few weeks. Without her there would be nothing to be happy about. He couldn't even imagine if he had never met this beautiful, kind mare. She was such a big part of his life now that without her presence, he would now know what to do with himself.
"Sì, molta bella." he agreed in his native Italian tongue. Next thing he knew the mare nipped him on the shoulders and took off down the beach, running in the surf. Fortinbras let out an excited whinny an promptly bolted after her.
The cool water felt so good on his coat. Even thought it was still spring, and early in the day, he got hot when under the direct sunlight. That was the only downfall to being a black horse on a Mediterranean island. Of course, that was what this large body of water was for; cooling off. There wasn't any other use of r it to a horse. They didn't need to eat the creatures living in it, nor did they drink it.
Fortinbras quickly caught up with the Arab and gave her a playful nip on the back and a tug on her mane. A lopsided smile appeared on his face as he half reared and splashed her with the seawater. Today was a wonderful day.

As Fortinbras tugged on her mane, Halloween squealed and nipped at his shoulder, prancing sideways as water splashed at her. Nostrils quivered, and the mare sent a few splashes at the black stallion, a mischievous smile crossing her muzzle. |
Fortinbras, you and I need to talk. I know I haven't explained everything about my past, but.. perhaps it's time. Halloween waded toward the shore, tail swaying gently behind her copper body due to the soft breeze rolling in off the ocean. The Arabian turned once her hooves were on dry land, and looked at her companion, waiting for the black stallion to follow her. She wanted to keep moving while she spoke, so that she didn't have any pauses within her story.
Her thoughts were then consumed with Carzeth, the lands that they had owned together, and of the many days and nights she stayed within them. Of the one day she had betrayed her mate, gone off with another stallion, and got pregnant with her daughter. All because Magic was being a bitch in heat. That one little mistake had led to her being cast out of her herd, dethroned, leaving her a wanderer for what seemed like the rest of her life. Ears flicked atop the mare's head, as a gull called from overhead, and her eyes strayed from the black stallion to the bird, then back. Tail flicked harshly behind her body now, as a single bug landed upon her hind, the most annoying thing in the world.[/blockquote] NOT AFRAID [eminem] ! TWO FIFTY ! LIZZEH 2011 ! Fortinbras
At the chestnut's words, Fortinbras playful demeanor ceased to exist as his curiosity piqued. What was she talking about? She seemed very serious about what she was going to be telling him. This caused the stallion to worry a bit. What could have happened in her past that could have been so bad? As far as he was concerned she had previously had a decent life. Then again, he never knew anything about the time she spent, or the company she kept before they met.
Why was she telling him this? Fortinbras could not fathom as to why this mare felt like she should tell him what ever had happened to her in the past. Yes, he loved her and cared about her, but the past was the past. Fortinbras had quite a history that he was not ready to share with any living soul anytime soon. Perhaps this mare trusted him enough to get this awful burden lifted from her shoulders. What ever the reason was, he was there to listen and comfort her.
"Yes?" he asked, his eyes searching her face for any sign of expression or any little hint she may be giving as to what she was going to be speaking about. As much as Fortinbras could tell that this topic bothered the mare, he wanted to know what she had to offer.

Breathing in deeply, Halloween turned and faced the forest, her body quite tense with what seemed like the weight of the world upon her shoulders. Tail flicked behind her slowly, and she closed her eyes. Finally, a sigh escaped the Arabian, and the mare began her story. |
What I am about to tell you, I have never spoke about it to anyone. No one knows, and I wasn't going to tell anyone about it. I just trust you enough for you to know, the mare's ears tilted back slightly, and she glanced at Fortinbras. At least he knew that she could trust him with anything now, after I came to the island, a ran into a black stallion, who looked exactly like you, named Carzeth. He offered me everything a horse could ever want, at least a mare would. A herd to call home, a stallion to call a lover, and a herd to reign over. I was Carzeth's mate the moment I stepped within the lands, and everyone knew that I was the Queen, the leader's lady, the one they would answer to when Carzeth wasn't there. I had it all, I didn't need to worry about everything. That was until a mare... Magic... joined, Halloween's voice dripped with venom as she said Magic's name. She still held a deep hatred for the bitch who stole her mate away. Halloween lifted her head slightly, and flared her nostrils, continuing on with her story. That mare changed my life. From the moment Carzeth brought her home, I knew I had to work hard to keep my title. And work hard I did. I made sure I was in Carzeth's good graces every single day, made sure I was the mare for him. However, in the end, I failed. The day I found out that Magic was pregnant with Carzeth's foal, I went insane, even though she had been wanting to walk, Halloween stayed stationary upon the sands of the beach, her head lowered slightly as she recalled everything that seemed to happen while she lived upon the island. As soon as I found out what Carzeth and Magic had done, I grew envious. Carzeth had never asked me to have a foal with him, and I knew now that my time as Queen was going to end. I went out one day, and out of revenge, I mated with the first stallion I saw. And that stallion happened to be Oscurita. I went back to my herd, not knowing Carzeth had seen everything that had gone on between Oscurita and I. Tears welled up in the Arab's eyes, and she shook her head ever so slightly, I was a fool to have gone back. For my position and home were stripped from me, and I was cast out of Carzeth's lands. I traveled around, and finally ran into Oscurita again, who took me to Aro's lands so I would at least have a place to live while I was pregnant with Verridith. But my temporary home didn't last long. I hadn't seen Oscurita in weeks, and my filly was due any day, so I left. I found a home within the clearing where we first met, and I had Verridith there. We stayed there, hidden away from the world, until you stumbled upon us that fateful day. That is why I believed you were someone else the first day we met. I thought you were Carzeth coming to get me, or to kill me. Another deep sigh escaped the mare, and she closed her eyes, her head still low. Of course, she looked a little more relaxed, as if the weight had been lifted from her shoulders. It was amazing how she felt now, with him knowing everything that had happened from the time she had landed upon the island, to the time they had met. Eyes finally opened, and the mare looked to Fortinbras, wondering what was going through his head.[/blockquote] HEAR ME NOW [framing hanley] ! SIX FIFTY EIGHT ! LIZZEH 2011 ! Fortinbras
Fortinbras remained silent and attentive as the chestnut mare told her story. Carzeth. He remembered that name for some reason. For all of Fortinbras' life he had been a wanderer, living alone, scouting the island at his pleasure. He had never made it a point to get involved with the trivial affairs within the herds. Why should he? It was no like he knew any of those horses personally, nor would their actions influence his life in any way. The only thing he had ever known about the herd bound horses was their leaders' names. Nothing beyond that. He remembered Carzeth as being one of the feared dark stallions in the lands. It was safe to say that Fortinbras was a bit surprised when Halloween explained that she had fallen in love, and lead a herd with that stallion.
He could hear the hate in her voice as she spoke about the mare Magic. Fortinbras had never been in love before, but only now he could imagine what it would be like. If Halloween had gone off with another stallion, he would hate that other stag and even Halloween for doing that to him. He now understood why the Arab did what she did. Yes, he did find it a bit rash to go off and mate with the first stallion she found, but then again he was no angel.
Fortinbras looked at the mare with understanding, sad eyes. He understood everything now. This was now the part he hated; the end of the story. Fortinbras had never been good with knowing what to do in times like these. Most of the time he would run away and never return. He could not do that. Not here, not now, not with Halloween. She was different, she deserved something better. "I would never hurt you." he said, or more so promised her as he touched his muzzle to hers. Awkward as this was, it felt right.

Smiling at Fortinbras, the copper mare nuzzled the stallion's neck lovingly, a gentle nicker escaping her. Eyes blinked a few times, then Halloween turned her head to look out across the ocean, nostrils flaring as she breathed in the salty sea air. Shaking her head gently, a sly look drifted across the mare's face, as she turned her head to look at Fortinbras once again. |
What do you say about going for a little adventure? We don't have to stay cooped up by the cave, and it'd be nice to stretch my legs. Halloween moved a few feet away from the black stallion, turning her dished face back to look over her shoulder, to see if her companion was going to accompany her.
Turning away from the stallion again, the Arabian moved along the beach, tail flicking slowly behind her as she walked. A gentle breeze fluttered around her, as she walked, the salty air playing with her mane and tail. It tugged on it, and Halloween felt a sharp pain pierce her heart. It was as if Verridith had tugged on her mane and tail, just like she had done when she was younger and beside the older mare. Tears welled within Halloween's eyes, but she shook them away. Today was to be a happy day, not one where she reflected on the past.[/blockquote] YOU GOT IT BAD [usher] ! TWO TWENTY FOUR ! LIZZEH 2011 !

Fortinbras
The stallion smiled as he felt Halloween's caress his neck. He almost had to laugh at himself. A few years ago the idea of spending so much time with one mare would have been something that Fortinbras would have run away from. In his younger days he had been the romancer, the heart breaker. Now he was here on the beach with a beautiful mare who, he hoped, loved him as he loved her. But, from what he had experienced with her, he did not doubt that she had feelings for him as well.
Fortinbras perked his ears as he heard Halloween mention something about an adventure. Back in his younger days, especially as a boy, he had loved going on adventures. He quickly jogged past Halloween , grinning at her. "Si. Of course I would like to get away from here for a while." he called over his shoulder before halting to wait for the Arab, realising that he was being a bit too overzealous. He could have sworn that when he swung his large head back this time he saw Halloween biting back tears. But, they had left as quickly as they had come. Fortinbras twisted his brow in confusion as he looked in front of him. It was best not to question it. "So, where would you like to go?"[/orange] he asked her, not knowing if she just wanted to wander or if she had a certain destination in mind.
