[atrb=border,1,true][atrb=width,394,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#95755E]It had been too long. Too long since she stepped upon the sands of Spiagga Del Nord. Too long since she had seen Fortinbras, or Oscurita. After their run in before, she had gone into hiding with young Verridith, not wanting to hurt her daughter in case Oscurita had any intention of bringing his daughter back to his herd. The Arabian now resided beside the sea with Verridith, the little filly loving the way the sand felt under her hooves ever since that day Fortinbras had taken her to the beach. And that was where they were now.
Halloween looked much older now: her once beautiful coat was starting to look ragged, the joy in her step now gone, replaced by a limp that she had acquired after tripping over a fallen log she hadn't seen. It was also harder to keep up with her filly. Although, the bay filly had grown so much lately. She was now over a year old, her features well defined as she was growing more and more into the beautiful mare her dam was.
Halloween stood at the edge of the beach, gentle eyes watching Verridith race the seagulls back and forth along the beach, parallel with the water's edge. Although, she stopped when the gulls had had enough, and flew off to find a better way to pass their time than racing a horse. Growing bored already, the mixed Arabian turned her head to look at Halloween, eyes curious as to why her mother looked so exhausted. True, she had raised a foal by herself, but Verridith was almost old enough to travel on her own, without her mother's protection. Shouldn't that at least make her mother a little stronger looking?
Shaking her head, Verridith turned sharply, trotting off into the cool waters. It was still hot out, and the flies were starting to bug her. It wasn't like when they were in the forest, sheltered by the canopy of leaves above. Out here, she was exposed to all sorts of things that terrorized her. Flies were one of them. Oh, how she wished winter would just come along, and wipe the little buggers off the face of the planet. |

Fortinbras Spiagga del Nord. It had been a long time since the ebony stallion set foot on the rich, red sands. Last time he was here with Halloween and her daughter Verridith. Fortinbras thought about them frequently. He had really enjoyed their company when he was with them.
The only reason he left is because of Halloween's old lover, and Verridith's father, Oscurita. The stallion had been quite angry at Fortinbras for being with Halloween and Fortinbras was a stallion who liked to stay out of things if possible.
Halloween and her daughter had gone in one direction, while the ebony stallion went another. It had been best for everyone. That was a long time ago. The two had probably forgotten about him. He wouldn't be surprised, he really wasn't that memorable of a horse.
Just then, the stallion saw what he thought to be his mind playing a trick on him. There was Halloween standing by the sea watching her daughter run around in the cool sea. This couldn't be real, right?
Fortinbras closed his eyes and shook his crown. When he opened his chocolate optics again, they were still there. They were really there. A smile spread across his face as he trotted forward. "Halloween! Verridith!" he called out, only hoping they would remember him.

[atrb=border,1,true][atrb=width,394,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#95755E]Verridith was the first one to see the ebony stallion trotting toward them, and the names he called. The tones of his voice danced around her ears, and a smile quickly spread across her maw. |
Fortinbras! The filly bolted out of the water, meeting the stallion before he could really move much further, a joyful whinny escaping her. Since Verridith had grown, she now stood almost even with the stallion, and she circled him, before standing in front of him, reaching her nose out to nudge his cheek. It's been a while since we last saw you, where have you been!? From behind her filly, Halloween had appeared. Her gentle eyes reflected the smile that was upon her maw, obviously happy to see the stallion. In all honesty, she was extremely happy it was Fortinbras, and not Oscurita. It has been some time, Fortinbras. I'm glad you ventured over here. The mare stayed a little bit behind her daughter, the leg that she was limping with lifted off the ground slightly as it was acting up once again. Verridith nodded at her mother's words, and looked to the ocean, then back at Fortinbras. Momma doesn't want to admit it, but she missed you more than I did. I think she was starting to worry that you had forgotten about us, the filly's words were in a whisper to the black stallion, her eyes serious. The smaller Arabian knew her mother had grown attached to Fortinbras, and how, when they had to leave, Halloween had been slightly crushed by parting with their new companion. But you are here to stay with us now, right? The mare behind Verridith tilted her ears forward, to listen for the stallion's reply. Deep down, she hoped he would stay, and they could get to know each other better. Maybe this would convince Verridith that she could go out on her own to find a herd, and not worry that her mother would be left alone. Fortinbras The small grin on Fortinbras' face grew as he saw Verridith cantering toward him. She had grown so much since he last saw her. She was not the little girl that he remembered. In fact, he was a bit surprised that she was still with Halloween. Usually horses Verridith's age were gone from their mothers and looking for a herd of their own to join.
He smiled and returned her greeting. "Yes, it has been a long time." he said quietly. "Oh I've been around, nothing spectacular." he said with a shrug. His time away from them had been rather dull. The other horses he met were either some snooty elemental horse who looked at him with a bit of disdain, or they were young mares or stallion only out looking for a mate. There was really no one to spend time with, just to talk, like he had with these two when he had spent a lot of time with them.
The stallion then looked a bit past the filly yo see her mother standing there. Fortinbras smiled as she spoke. "I've missed you two." he said, looking between the mare and her foal, his eyes lingering a bit longer on Halloween's face. Until now, he never realised how much he had really missed them, especially Halloween.
The black stag turned his attention to Verridith as she said something quietly to him. "Oh really?" he asked just as quietly, his inner self grinning like the Cheshire cat. Fortinbras what caught a little bit off gaurd by the filly's next words, but he kept the same facade nonetheless. "If your mother doesn't mind." he said with a small smile, looking hopefully at the Arabian mare. "I would be delighted to stay."
"So what have the two of you been up to since I last saw you?" he asked, directing the question at Verridith, seeing as she seemed to be more eager to talk than her mother at the moment.

She side-stepped, flaring her nostrils, and then stood still, watching the stallion. As he spoke, she nodded politely, just like her mother had taught her. |
Well, I want to know everythi -, Verridith. Why don't you go and amuse yourself with the water and let Fortinbras and I talk? Halloween interrupted her daughter, taking the few steps forward so that she was level with her daughter. The younger mare flared her nostrils, then looked to Fortinbras. But... Verridith tried to refuse, but her mother narrowed her eyes slightly, her ears tilted back. The filly rolled her eyes, and trotted away from the two adults, galloping down the beach, parallel to the surf. Sorry for shooing her away like that. She can be a pain now that she is older, the older mare smiled sheepishly, and moved to Fortinbras' side, placing her muzzle upon his neck, wuffling gently. but she is right. I have missed you a lot more than she has. I worried that one of the darks got to you and I would never see you again. The mare nuzzled the black stallion's neck gently, her nostrils flaring and taking in his scent deeply. That hole that seemed to have appeared once she left Fortinbras on that beach so long ago seemed to melt away, as she stood next to the one horse, besides her daughter, whom she could truly trust.
The mare finally pulled away from the stallion, heat rising within her face. She was truly acting childish around him, and she had to blush. Sorry... she mumbled, looking down at the sand. From down the beach, Verridith had stopped moving, watching the interaction between the two adults. A small smile crossed her maw, and the filly was happy that her mother was slowly starting to overcome whatever had been possessing her earlier. Maybe now she could finally drift away from her mother, to search for a herd to reside in. I would love it if you stayed with us, Fortinbras. It'd be nice to have another horse around. Fortinbras Fortinbras listened to Verridith intently as she began to answer his question, only to be cut off by her mother. The stallion watched the young mare jogged away from the pair. She looked to be grown up, but Fortinbras could still see the child in her.
He turned his attention now to the filly's mother. "Oh no, she's no bother." he said. Fortinbras chocolate orbs followed Halloween's movements as she placed her muzzle upon his sleek neck. He returned the gesture and chuckled a bit at Halloween's shyness.
"Are you sure?" he asked again. "I mean if it really is a bother, I will find somewhere else..." he trailed off, seeing that she really meant it. After a moment's silence, Fortinbras asked Halloween "So what happend?" with a nod to her leg that she was favouring. Fortinbras was an observant horse, especially around those he cared for.

You act as if I don't like you around! Halloween pouted slightly, only playing around, then let that smile cross her maw once again. Brown eyes watched the black stallion, and she looked down to her leg as he mentioned it. Shifting her weight slightly, she moved the injured leg forward slightly, small scrapes along the upper part of it. Well, a month or so after we had left you and Oscurita on the beach, Verri and I were wandering around in the woods. We were ambushed by a lone wolf, and he chased us. The forest was so dense, I hadn't seen the fallen tree in my path, and tumbled over it. Luckily, though, the wolf was turned away when Verridith confronted it with a fury I have only seen once before. The mare withdrew her leg, shaking her head slightly, a small spike of pain shooting up to her body. Halloween winced, and she clenched her jaw, until the pain finally subsided. Let us get out of the coming rain. I'll show you to where Verridith and I are currently living, the mare said softly, turning. Verridith had rushed past the two, a huge gust of wind coming in from the ocean, immediately followed by a loud crack of thunder. The older mare entered the trees after her daughter, pausing under the bowing branches, head turned, as she waited for Fortinbras to accompany her back to the cave that her and her daughter shared during the frequent storms and the long, cold nights.[/blockquote] ! not much muse for this post, sorry love. Fortinbras “Well, you never know. You may just be putting up with me so I don't think you're rude.” he said with a wink. He really had missed her. The more he thought about it, he almost seemed to miss her too much. When he had been away from her, it felt like there was something missing about him that he couldn't quite place. Now that he was back with her, that empty place seemed to be gone. It was strange for Fortinbras to feel this way. Yes, he had been with many mares but he had never felt this way about any of them before.
Fortinbras then pulled himself out of his thoughts as the mare began to tell him the story of how she injured her leg. The stag pursed his lips and watched her as she winced. “I hope it feels better soon Halloween.” he told her seriously. Fprtinbras knew all too well of what an injured leg could do to a horse. It had been the death of his own sister several years ago.
The stallion looked up to the sky as Halloween mentioned something about the rain. “Ah, yes. It does look like its about to pour doesn't it?” he said, mostly to himself. “Lead the way.” he said, stepping aside so the mare could pass him.
Fortinbras silently followed the pair as the wind grew stronger and the air became much cooler. One downside to living on an island in the middle of the ocean like this was the weather. It always changed so much.
He looked around the cavern that they had led him into. “This seems like a nice place.” he commented. “How did you find this place?” he inquired, curious as to how the pair found this hidden sanctuary.

It wasn't weather she was really planning on moving through, but she felt that the stallion and mare deserved some time alone. And besides, it was about time she moved away from Halloween. Gentle eyes turned to her mother, noticing that the older mare had gone farther into the cave, sheltered from the blistery wind and the oncoming rain. Head turned to look back out, the grey clouds making her rethink about moving.
Halloween stopped once she was in the middle of the cavern, turning to look at Fortinbras. Well, Verridith and I were just moving through the forest one day, minding our own business, and we stumbled upon it. I guess we just stumble upon things now. The mare shrugged slightly, and flicked her tail behind her. Eyes went to where Verridith had been standing, and noticed that her daughter was gone. Ears flicked, and nostrils quivered in alarm. |
Um, where did Verridith go? She was standing there just a moment ago! The mare moved away from the black stallion, to where her daughter had been standing, and looked out at the pouring rain.
If her daughter was out there now, she would be drenched, and cold. What if a wolf got to her?! Fortinbras! We have to go get her! Fortinbras
"Ah, I see." Fortinabras said quietly as Halloween explained how Verridith and she stumbled upon the cave. The stallion was all too familiar with stumbling upon hidden places. His lone travels on the island had led him to some very, very strange places. Some of which he would love to show Halloween and her daughter someday.
The stallion's ears flicked as a hint of panic made its way into Halloween's voice as she exclaimed that her daughter was gone. Fortinbras flicked his tail nervously and looked around. The filly had just been standing right there. She couldn't have gone far. They were in a cave for crying out loud! Then again he did not know how far the cave could go back. "Maybe she went deeper into the cave?" Fortinbras offered as a suggestion.
As he glanced to the mare he only saw that the panic was now visible on her normally calm visage. "We'll find her." he told her. "I'm sure she hasn't gone far and shes a smart girl, she'll look out for herself." Fortinbras tried to comfort the mare.
He walked to the mouth of the cave and glanced out into the rain. Why would the filly be out there anyway? "VERRIDITH!" he yelled as loud as possible. It was sure to carry for quite a distance, but the rain and wind would probably cut it short. Fortinbras would locate the young mare no matter what.

Ears swiveled on top of the Arabian's head, her mind buzzing with the sudden disappearance of her daughter. Why was this happening to her? First, Oscurita appears, then her own daughter goes missing. Shaking her head quite violently, the mare turned to look at Fortinbras. "It's not worth going after her in this weather, Fortinbras. Lets just say in here and keep warm." The rain had stopped, though it had frozen and turned into snow. The flakes now fell quickly to the ground, and since it was so cold outside, they began to stick, piling up rather quickly. The mare was beginning to become quite cold, as she stood near the entrance of the cave, and her ears flicked back. A visible shiver ran through her, and she limped toward the back of the cave, hoping to become warm again. "Come, dear, you need to get warm as well. We don't need dead horses lying around." The panic and fear had dissipated from the mare's voice, replaced with calmness.
Halloween placed herself onto the ground, folding her legs near her body, head tucked toward her chest. Her breathing shallowed out, as she tried to keep herself warm. However, because her body was wet, and there was a constant cold breeze filtering into the cave, it wasn't helping the situation at all.

Fortinbras
Fortinbras continued to look out into the storm, not really feeling the sleet freezing his pelt. His chocolate eyes roamed the landscape. No sign of her. The black stallion only turned his crown when he heard Halloween tell him that there was no use in looking for her. This caused a frown to come upon Fortinbras' face. He felt a sense of loyalty, a duty, to Verridith and she was gone. He felt obligated to find her.
The stallion looked between Halloween and the world open in front of him. Should he stay with Halloween or should he go and track down her daughter. His question was answered when snow started to fall. There would be a blizzard soon. It wouldn't be safe to go out there in a storm like that. Hopefully Verridith had enough sense to get somewhere safe, or even return to her mother before things got really bad.
Fortinbras reluctantly followed the shivering Halloween deeper into the cave. He never realised how cold she actually was until she laid her dainty bodice on the stone floor. The stag's audits swiviled in concern. "Halloween? Are you okay?" he asked, coming closer to her. Without even asking, he plopped down next to her to offer her some of his warmth. This was quickly turning into a dangerous situation for the mare.

The aging mare flicked her ears slightly as she lie next to Fortinbras, her eyes closed. She knew the situation with Verridith was grim, with the blizzard threatening the young mare's life more and more with each passing moment. Nostrils quivered slightly, and the Arabian opened her eyes slowly, glancing at the black stallion next to her. I'm just fine, m'dear. Really, there is no need for you to worry about me so much. I can handle myself, the mare reached her muzzle over and ran it along Fortinbras' shoulder gently, a small smile appearing upon her lips. Now, while we're confined to the cave, is there anything else we haven't talked about? It might get a bit boring just staying quiet, her worse were soft, as she shifted slightly, pressing her body closer to his for more warmth.
Another small shiver ran through her delicate body, and she pulled her chin toward her chest, breathing slowly. Ears were flicked forward, to catch any words that the stallion may speak. Gentle eyes strayed to the walls of their prison, drifting along the mixture of grays and browns, to her stallion companion. That small smile lingered upon her maw, as she gazed at him for a few long moments, barely moving except to breathe.

Fortinbras
Fortinbras stared at her for a moment as she said that she could take care of herself and not to worry about her. Yes, he knew she was perfectly capable of making sure that she was alright. She had taken care of herself long before she had met Fortinbras, but for some reason he almost felt a responsibility for her well-being. If she got sick, he knew he would blame himself for it. He already half blamed his reappearance as the cause for Verridith to leave. Truth was he was actually very concerned for the young mare. He had grown to like her and he would hate to see something bad happen to her.
"Hmmmm." he mused as she asked him if there was anything that they hadn't talked about yet. "I am not sure Halloween. We have talked about so much." he told her as he wracked his brain for something to talk about. "Ah! I know!" he exclaimed as a light bulb went off in his head. "What was your life like as a youngster?" he inquired. "I do not think I've ever asked you about that."

Ears flicked slightly, and the mare breathed out slowly. Her childhood. Something she hadn't really thought about since before Verridith had been born, hell, since she had been with Carzeth. Gentle eyes had that far away look in them, as she turned away from Fortinbras, looking at the cavern wall. Well. I used to live on this farm, with my mother and father, and my younger brother, Rune. It was fun within the little farm, growing up with my brother and running in the wide pasture that was our own. My father was seperated from my mother, my brother, and I, because he had the tendency to go into fits of unknown rages, striking out at anything that came too near. They finally had to put him out of his misery, nearing my third birthday, because he had killed a foal he had sired with another mare. Halloween shook her head, and breathed in deeply.
Her gaze shifted again from the wall, to Fortinbras, and a sad smile crossed her maw. It was beautiful on the little farm. The days were warm during the summer, the grass a brilliant green. The winter months were chilly, and snow was on the ground, but nothing like here. Since we were more southern, closer to the Equator, it didn't get too bad during the winter. Rune and I would always play in the snow when it fell. Vast blankets of white, untouched until we dashed through them. Mother had loved watching us, but kept an eye on the pasture that held my father, knowing how his craziness was. I guess she felt the need to protect us from him.
The mare shrugged, and closed her eyes for a few minutes. She sighed, and the copper colored hairs of her tail twitched upon the floor of the cave. Enough of my sad story, though. There has to be something much more happier in your life that I don't know about. That gentle smile crossed the mare's muzzle again, and she scooted a little closer to the stallion, resting her head upon his neck, and staring up at him.
