[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]Small pebbles tumbled down the mountain trail, as hooves clattered against the stone pathway carved into the mountain side. Snowflakes fell in the winter's wind, causing the grey lord's mane and tail to sway slowly. Ears flattened against his skull, as a strong gust blew directly into his face, slowing his progress considerably. Snorting, the Hielo shook his head and continued his trek up the mountain side. In a matter of moments, Revenant made it to his destination, a small ridge overlooking the brilliant whiteness of his home. As they grey lord of Felwood looked over the lands, a sadness washed over him.
He hadn't seen his mate, Catalyst, in quite some time, and it worried him. He had grown close to the mare, even making her his lead. Soon after, though, the chestnut had disappeared, as had many of the other horses on Isola. A frown washed over the gray's lips, bi-colored eyes closing at the saddening thoughts traipsing through is mind, and the utter loss clenching his nearly frozen heart. Another big gust carried the sadness away in a heartbeat, and he opened his eyes to look at his lands once more.
If Catalyst wasn't going to be there, then he was going to go looking for another mate. Perhaps find some mares to call Felwood home, instead of having an empty land to rule over. The thought that, even after many months he didn't have anyone in his herd, caused a deep sigh to erupt from closed lips, regretting the decision to even start his own herd.
This new thinking spot allowed Revenant a view of the whole layout of Felwood, except for what lie behind him, down to the coast and the vast ocean beyond. What he could see, however, was covered in a thick blanket of freshly fallen snow. Snow that he had longed to see once again. The grey stallion didn't mind the warmer months of the year, but he truly preferred the colder, snowy months. He was, after all, an elemental of ice and snow. If he had been able to, Felwood would be eternally trapped in a winter state, but knowing most horses, they wouldn't want to be in a land perpetually in snow.
Revenant stood upon his perch for almost an hour, the snowflakes building up on his bulky body. The only movements he made were his shallow breathing and the occasional flick of an ear. Suddenly, the gentle giant shook the snow from his coat, sending it back into the wind that had carried it there in the first place. Tired of standing on the mountain ridge, he made his way slowly down the trail, head lowered. His mind had been made. He would get over Catalyst and try to find someone else to fill the void she had left in his cold heart.
Warm air rose before his darkened muzzle as he breathed out sharply, nearly losing his footing on the slick pebbles. Hooves scrambled, tail slapping against his hindquarters in frustration. He had been very careful about his footing, and with his mind preoccupied, he had finally placed a foot in the wrong place. If he hadn't been paying a hundred percent attention to where he was going, he could've tumbled to his death. Not like anyone would miss him, anyway, the dark voice called out in his head, and he snorted at it in irritation.
Recovering fairly quickly, he stopped moving to make sure he didn't injure himself. Looking back at his hind legs, he moved each to make sure nothing was strained. Once everything checked out alright, he continued the rest of the way down, clearing his mind so that his progress wasn't so dangerous. As soon as he felt the ground even out, he let out a deep breath, watching the haze rise before his face then disappear in the frigid wind. Two-toned eyes looked toward the treeline in the distance, and he made his way toward it.
The trip to the treeline was slower than normal, due to the knee-high snow that barred any movement but walking. Upon reaching the trees, however, the snow tapered, only a thin layer covering the dormant grasses upon the forest floor. The tangled mass of branches above made sure that little to no snow made it within the dark forest that resided within Felwood borders. The stallion was quite thankful for that, and stopped just inside the treeline, lowering his head and scraping away the inch of snow. A few dead blades of grass appeared, and he bent his head down, his mind once preoccupied with thoughts of his lost mate and nonexistent herd.

YELLOW SPEECH
When would this torture to her heart end? She was dead but still breathing, but how could that be when it felt like her heart had stopped beating? It froze the moment she discovered he was gone, and she was afraid that he would never return again. No, she wasn't afraid of it, she knew that he was gone forever. Not dead, because she didn't find a body.. just, gone. Did Vaviehtosh take him away from her again without warning? Did he know how he affected her with his antics? She couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep, she was just like the embodiment of her mate that disappeared; an animated corpse. She was similar to the Anima, so much so that other horses avoided her at first glance.
No one recognized the war hero who helped drive the Zuden away - did they even know it was she who saved them all? Nevertheless they didn't care for an aging mare, sick with heartache. It didn't feel like an ache. She felt hollow inside, weightless, and felt as if the howling winds could bowl her over at any moment. She had nothing to support her anymore; her skin was stretched out over jutting bones, a skeleton with a hide. Her strength was sapped away from the lack of nutrition, and she could barely light a puff of fire to save her life. But what was there to live for, anyway? Her love of her life, her lovely Stranger, was gone. Without wake or warning, he vanished just like he did before. And her heart couldn't take it anymore. Whether the heartbreak or starvation took her life first, she would have to wait patiently to find out. What drove her to wander into Revenant's land was a mystery. Perhaps she wanted to find comfort in the stallion who had become her friend and given her a home for a brief time, or maybe she just wanted to say goodbye for a second time. The harsh wind whipped her mane across her neck in her face, and her nostrils flared as she breathed in the harsh wind that stung her lungs with cold. She was numb with it, the only thing keeping her somewhat warm was the fuzz of her winter coat. If she was in the Zuden's land, she would still be warm, she thought bitterly. The lands never dipped below fifty because of the volcano that bubbled just beneath the surface. But if course if she returned there, she would immediately be executed. That didn't sound too bad right now. At least she would die somewhere warm..
Deciding to trail her thoughts away from suicide at the moment, her dull eyes scanned the forest as she traversed slowly through them, the snow barely covering an inch under the trees' protective covering. She wondered mildly how Revenant and his mate, Catalyst, were doing. Last she heard, she was with foal, and figured by now the tyke was born. She had always wanted foals, but with Stranger's leave.. she didn't think that blessing would ever be upon her. Mating was just something they had never discussed before, but she wasn't exactly sure how to approach the subject, considering she had never been with someone either. She wanted to experience that with her mate, but they had waited too long. Perhaps if they had and she had gotten pregnant by him, she would have a reason to live. But the list dwindled less and less every day, and she was looking forward to when the pale horse came for her again.
It soon occurred to her that there was a scent different from the bland smell of the snow and ice and pine, something musky and familiar. Her ears pricked forward slowly, and she blinked, continuing her steady march through the woods. She didn't see him at first with the paleness of his coat, but she then spotted the stallion scraping at the snow. She paused and watched him for a moment, he seeming preoccupied enough to not even notice her standing among the trees. She wasn't in a hurry, anyway. Where else did she need to go? After a while of standing idly, she stepped closer to him, not with caution but calm indifference, until she was several yards away. She swished her tail and nodded her head once and stated, "Revenant" with mild tones, her voice withered from lack of use.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]That voice.
The wind carried it just past his ears, the grey stallion lifting his head from the ground. It had been brief, the rush of wind, the name upon it. He could feel her there, could sense the sadness and depression clouding her. Nostrils quivered, and he turned his head to look at her, green-gold eyes instantly turning sad as they took in the sight before him. She looked so... frail. All movements halted in this moment, his observation of the mare who had first walked out on him. In a heartbeat, that old anger flared up, his eyes narrowing. Not only was Aithne boldly walking into Felwood without permission, she was back after leaving him for that other stallion.
Ears pinned back against his skull, and a few snowflakes fell around him, as if trying to calm the inner rage that had worked itself up. And what exactly are you doing back here in my lands, Zunden? Thought you weren't going to come back, his tone was deep, dark, something he hadn't used in quite some time. Large, bulky body moved so that he was facing her square on, ears still tilted back toward his skull. Of course he was pissed off she was here, but there was a small part of him that felt sympathetic. The way she looked, her skin spread thin over her bone, the gangly appearance she had... what had she done to herself?
His wildfire rage abated slightly, and his ears darted forward, as his hooves moved him toward the mare. My dear Aithne... what has happened to you?

YELLOW SPEECH
The reaction he gave her was about what she expected of him. She remained remotely impassive as she watched the shift of expression across his face, the sadness for a moment from when he first looked at her, to the anger. She shifted her hooves only slightly, not particularly afraid of him hurting her. He never swatted a blow at her before, but the rage that twisted his features caused her to be a bit hesitant on her assumption. She didn't know the cause of it, or why he seemed to be so angry with her every time she left, and then later returned. Did he not want to see her? She winced at his cold use of the word Zuden. Did his Hielo nature truly get the best of him? She took a step back, warily watching him through her yellow eyes.
When she told him that she was leaving to be with Stranger, he wasn't happy with her at all. But she had made aware that her stay in these lands would be brief, for one reason or another. He helped coax her through the loss of her mate the first time, without truly knowing the cause of her grief that was behind sad eyes. The second time around, the toll was taken, and she felt that even Revenant's company couldn't save her. Maybe it was best just to say goodbye, seeing as her presence wasn't very welcome here any longer. When he spoke again, lacking the biting tone he had before, she gave a soft, humorless chuckle. "I suppose that doesn't matter right now. I just came by to see how you were, dear. Seeing as my presence isn't much welcome here, I'll take my leave and let you have your peace."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]Her presence was taunting him, her scent lingering around his flared nostrils, clinging to him then vanishing in the gentle breeze that swept through the nearly barren territory Revenant still called home. Snowflakes fluttered about his body, true testament to the stallion's powers over the colder element. Aithne had been a bad drug for the grey, something he hadn't fully gotten over. Why was she doing this to him? Why did she always come back? Didn't she see how bad it hurt him? Eyes now betrayed the feelings ripping the shredding heart housed within his chest. Ears merely twitched, noting how devoid of emotion her chuckle had been. What had happened to her? Was it something to do with Stranger, the one she had originally left him for?
With the rage slowly abating, the stallion's bi-colored eyes looked over Aithne's body. Seeing her in this condition didn't help the sadness he had been wallowing in. Here was his friend, nothing but a shade of her former self, and he had done nothing to help her. Could she still be helped? I'm sorry, Aithne. I didn't mean to snap at you. It's just been... difficult. His reply had been forced out, the stallion almost choking on his words. Be strong, he told himself, and he lifted his head up slightly, staring at her with eyes that seemed clearer than before.
My dear, tell me... what has happened? Why are you so thin? He didn't know. How could Revenant know about Stranger's disappearance from Aithne's life? It wasn't like he was following the mare's life down to the exact second. He wasn't a stalker. Besides, he had been more worried about his own life, his own mate, to go chasing after the fiery mare.

YELLOW SPEECH
It so appeared to her that Revenant wasn't coping as well as she thought he was at first glance. The sadness that lingered behind his gaze caught her attention, and she found that the scent of depression in the air didn't come solely from herself. She pricked her ears slightly as she studied him, curious as to what may have caused such the upset in him. He always seemed like a horse stronger than her, so whatever it was must have been big. She felt suddenly guilty that she came here, plaguing him with her problems when he so obviously had hefty ones of his own.
She merely shrugged off his apology, attempting at a smile. "Revenant, it seems that whenever I return, you snap at me. I'm not sure it matters too much to me at all," she said, her eyes intent as she sensed the faint stutter in his voice. She took a step closer to him, her golden eyes searching his, and sighed as he spoke again. She remained quiet for a few minutes, piecing the puzzle together, and then suddenly shook her head at him, forcing back tears as she attempted a weak smile. "Because it so appears, that my mate has vanished, just the same as yours has, dear," she said, pain filling her voice. " Where did they go, Rev? Why did they leave us? " She stepped forward and nuzzled into his shoulder, seeking comfort despite the way his cold skin felt against her hot one, shuddering deeply. "This is the second time he's disappeared, Rev. I swore I wasn't going to survive it if he went again, and damn it, look at me. I'm not going to!.."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]It struck something deep inside of him when Aithne's voice hit his ears. That pain. Oh, how he wished he could just take it away, so that the mare wasn't hurt. To drain it from her like a vampire drained it's victim's blood. A heavy sigh escaped the grey stallion, and he turned his head to sweep his muzzle across her stretched skin, barely touching his chilled maw across the scorching flesh that wrapped around the mare. He still wasn't used to their different heat signatures, his so ice cold, it was like he was a living glacier, hers so hot, it was as if he were touching the sun itself. Eyes closed, as he breathed cool air against her taut coat, steam rising as it hit her. I wish I knew where they went, my sweet. I'm sorry that it has happened to you once more, but always know, no matter what happens, I am here for you. You know that, don't you? Even if there is a hostility between us at first, I am always the shoulder waiting to be cried upon.
His words were so calm, so full of reassurance, he almost felt better himself. If he were going to be the mare's rock, would she be able to handle all the luggage the Heilo seemed to come with? The stallion swept his cold muzzle across her shoulder again, breathing out as he did so, his ears flicking back. He didn't want to think about the loss of Catalyst right now. He wanted to heal Aithne, to help her recover from the loss of her own mate, to build her back up. But, by building her up, would he eventually cause her to fall back down? To become what she was now?
Aithne. If you need a place to stay, or anything else for that matter, all you have to do is ask me. I am here to help. The stallion lowered his head in a slight bow to the Zunden, his ears springing forward off his skull.

YELLOW SPEECH
Despite all she had been through, she had remained such a hard rock for such a long time. Even when she witnessed others dying, she didn't feel such utter grief that she did now, let alone show it. She always told herself that she wouldn't let anyone get to her, in case that something may happen to them, so that she wouldn't be emotionally responsible. But she had allowed Stranger into her life and into her heart, and he simply vanished. When he returned he swore to her he would never leave her again, but where was he now? Did Vaviehtosh take him back to where he had hidden him away before? She wished she knew how to get there, but unfortunately did not, and so she was stuck feeling this way without any closure.
The touch of his muzzle against her back made her shudder deeply again, the temperature of his skin so much colder than the air around them. The winter weather didn't touch her body, but his did, and it sent a chill down to her bones. She sighed softly, smokey vapor trailing out from her nostrils. "..Thank you, Revenant," she said softly, still leaning against him despite the shock sparking between them at the difference of their temperatures. "I think staying here with you will be best. I don't trust myself to wander around anymore." She feared she would turn to the land of the Reapers to end her suffering, and although that thought was on her mind, she would try to hang on for as long as she could bear it.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]Almost instantly, Revenant began to regret offering his home to the Zunden for a second time. And in that instant, he had begun to build walls up around his heart, caging the remains so that they wouldn't be shred to oblivion. A small smile crossed his lips despite the guarded feelings, and he moved away from her, tail swaying gently behind his gray body. Turning bi-colored eyes upon her once more, no longer judging, he tilted his ears forward. Anything for a friend, my dear. Besides, I believe you would do the same for me if our roles were opposite. Did he really believe that? Was she capable of providing the comfort he would have wanted if the hurt from Catalyst's departure was that of Stranger's to Aithne's? As his mind wandered, his head had turned to look toward the meadow, the vast white not really binding due to the off-white clouds hanging above the territory.
C'mon. We need to find something to eat, he began to walk slowly, toward the snow-covered meadow. He didn't know what they would find under the knee deep snow, but there had to some something within this territory.

YELLOW SPEECH
Aithne let a deep breath blow out of her nostrils, the smokey vapor trailing around her maw before fading away. The idea still lingered in her mind to just slip away and end her life, but she just didn't want to quit that easy. She had built up her life with triumph and glory over the tyranny of the Zuden, and what would it all mean if she just killed herself? Absolutely nothing. She might as well of just stayed in the Zuden territory and not escape her execution. But then she might not of met Stranger. She could not go back and change what happened in the past, so what use was it worrying about it? None, but she couldn't help the thoughts that circulated her brain. Her dull eyes studied Revenant with some measure as he stepped away from her. "I would if you asked," she said, watching the brief flicker of doubt on his face before he seemed to focus back in. It seemed there were some demons between them that she wasn't aware of.
Aithne nodded slightly in agreement as he spoke about getting something to eat. It had been so long since she had last eaten, the massive stomach pains she used to get was just a hollow feeling now. Following after him into the vast meadow, she lowered her nose closer to the ground to try and sniff for a better patch of grass. The cold air stung her lungs, but she managed to find a decent enough patch that she began scraping at, her hot hoof helping melt away some snow that didn't get pushed away.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#5E5A4E]Perhaps the two could become friends again, could get over whatever the past they had gone through. The Hielo stallion hadn't moved too far from the mare, as she lowered her muzzle in search of grass under the blanket of white. Revenant studied her for a few moments, before doing the same. He snorted against the deep snow, the flurries moving away from the frozen ground below, moving at the snow lord's command. The patch of unearthed grass grew larger, as Revenant ordered the snow to recede from around Aithne as well. Looking up from his work, he sent the mare a small smile. There you go. It's much faster that way.
Lowering his head again, he tugged at a large clump of grass, chewing it thoughtfully. Part of him wished the winter months would pass already. He knew how most of the other horses hated the freezing temperatures it brought, as well as the blinding white blanket coating the earth. Blinking his eyes quickly, he cleared his throat, ears moving as a sharp wind played with his mane and tail. Do you want to talk about what's happened? He wasn't exactly sure if he wanted to talk about Aithne going off to be with Stranger, but perhaps it would make her feel a bit better.
