- i will never let you fall === - T he cold darkness seemed to grip every inch of the islands this time of the year; nightfall wrought temperatures of at least minus ten degrees at the worst of nature's tantrums, and the daylight was hardly any better. winter's chill took and froze the sun's warmth, chased it off as the world turned away from its source of light, like an unruly child that had been scolded by its parent. birds forsake the terras this time of year, save for the few brave jays and cardinals that dare stay around. life seems to give up, death and dying surrounding everyone, everything within the vicinity; grass, once lush and green, now crunched unnaturally beneath talon-falls. flowing waters, life-giving fluid that every breathing, living thing that walked or grew upon the earth needed to sustain life, now halted in its race towards salty ocean waters, frigid and so cold to the touch of flesh that it burned. morning dew-drops froze over the moment they were conceived, every surface an icy sheer of diamonds and crystals rather than the usual emeralds and multicolored gems that came with spring and summer, or the array of rubies and topaz that danced on the gentle wind in the fall. bitter gales flashed against hide and pelt, biting into sensitive flesh hard enough to produce frostbite to the unsuspecting traveler, and some of the harshest, most unpredictable storms the islands had ever known were not uncommon during this time. should one be caught in such a blizzard meant certain death for almost any mortal or elemental if they didn't find shelter quickly, or have the ability to fight against the unforgiving cold. therefore, the lands of the belle valle were more often than not desolate at this time of the seasons. lands that once teemed with souls, servants of darkness and warriors of light and those who stood in-between alike, were now a barren landscape beneath the fading starlight. the icy winds that scraped against the dry terras was enough to chill even the most fiery zünden to their core, and the fading moonlight just eerie enough to make any arrat proud enough to walk beneath, baring in mind they could bare the current conditions; it was always worse during the night. thankfully enough, by now the twilight was breaking over the horizon; the night wouldn't last much longer.
the first rose colored rays of light break the horizon line, and twilight turns to dawn at long last. the warmth isn't much, but its enough, and all will take heed to the warm caress as the celestial star rises ever higher. life awakens at last, cuddled up in makeshift dens, flimsy protection from the harsh weather the night before; jays take wing, filling the crisp air with delightful song, cardinals landing upon the dead grass to peck at the seeds that lay dormant upon the dusty ground, chirping ever so softly while the tell-tale 'phatt-phatt-phatt' knocking of the occasional woodpecker echoes off in the distance. a touch of warmth returns to the forsaken land; the frosty dew begins to melt, ice cold crystals sliding down the brown blades of dry grass and falling from the twisting branches upon the sleeping trees. crafted orb webs glitter like diamond dream-catchers as the sun touches the water droplets they've collected overnight. it seems that even in desolation, that beauty can be found wherever one decides to look. it is a fact he muses over as he moves through the belle valle, lean pistons set in a lazy, unhurried motion. the sun continues to peek out into the heavens above as each moment passes, and he takes pleasure in. each ray that passes over his glittering robes. the diamond shaded lord silently revels in the growing light of the morning, deep, relaxed breaths drawing into his broad lungs with each step he takes, sweet, precious oxygen being replaced with a soft misty cloud of hot carbon in every exhale. shimmering tassels glitter like gold against the broken dawn, caught up in bitter hands of ice that slashes at his form like hundreds of knives and needles. he ignores it for the most part - he's taken in the risks in making this trip through the belle valle already. soon the biting winds will die down, and he'll be left with the chilly breezes and his thoughts. for some reason, that doesn't sound much more like the lands of servo venia - sure, they are more protected against these harsh conditions, the mountain walls making sure that no harsh storms or gale winds whip the hidden valley into a mirror of the terra he now stands upon, but... he's alone either way. servo venia is lifeless, for all its beauty... only its lord walks its grounds.
despite his lonesome existence, the prince of the dia, the lord of the horses of light still smiles, a contented twitch of the maw that shows he doesn't dwell on his current social standings. he knows more will come soon enough, but one can only take the echoes of the mountain walls for so long before they must seek out other, more open scenery. that is why he's out here, strolling amongst the daylight rays; he's stretching his legs, pushing and pulling muscles that have been stiff with sleep for the past darker hours. he's not traveled far from his homeland - he can still see the mountain walls from his position even now, but he desires to go further, explore the lands that the sea surrounds. aura aura orbs shimmer in delight as he picks up his pace, setting his gait to a slow collected trot over the firm earth below his talons. the sun has by now risen to its highest point in the sky, light shines down from everywhere, and the biting gales no longer exist. hmm... what a lovely day it is for winter. here's to hope that it'll stay that way.
ooc ;; i love this. x3 this is so much better than the first one. [/blockquote]

There was nothing left for her back home. The roan mare had taken to spending most of her days out of her father's land, just wandering. She was not looking for anything special, nor was she hoping that anyone would find her. The solitude was just fine. She would be gone for days and even weeks before returning home just to let her father and his newest mate know that she was alive. Shadow could not stand being in the same herd lands as them for more than a few days at a time. She would have been fine if there were more horses in the land who were not related to her in some way. Yes, there were a couple, but they were occupied with their own families. Shadow was the lost soul in Liberta.
She picked up her pace once her feet hit the open plains of Belle Valle. Normally she would try to avoid this active land all together, but it was winter. During the winter the thriving land seemed to die in an instant. No one wanted to come into the wind swept plains. They all wanted safety deep in the woods. Out here is where the cold could kill you under the right conditions. Today was not particularly cold, nor was it windy, but Shadow had this hope in the very depths of her mind that a freak storm would blow in and she could die out in this frozen land.
Shadow's ears perked as she saw a shape in the distance. There was another horse. How stupid of them. Most the horses in Belle Valle were horses who were not natives to the island and often found themselves in a bit of a predicament when wandering here in the winter. Even though she preferred the company of herself, she had been raised to be a kind, helping mare. She would go see if the stranger needed directions to somewhere where they could stay warm for the winter.
She might not want to have anything to do with leading her father's herd when he passed on, but she had inherited his caring personality. If there was one thing about Lassan she liked, hit was how kind and helpful he was to others. then again that was what she hated most about him. That kindness was what had turned him into such the ladies man. His greatest attribute was his greatest downfall. It was he reason his daughter both loved and loathed him.
The quick trot she had been carrying slowed to a walk as she got closer to the pale equine. She was almost surprised to find out that this was a stallion. He was probably here to look for any poor mare who found herself alone. That was fantastic. Shadow did not feel like dealing with that today. She constantly denied the advances of all stallions. There was one she had come to fall for, but he had passed away. What made the whole thing even funnier was he was not rational and down to earth like her. Jack had been completely and utterly mad. And she loved him for that.
Shadow decided that she had better at least say hello to this stallion as she passed him by. It was the least she could do. "Good afternoon." she said dully, giving her head a slight nod. "Nice day isn't it?" This idle chit chat was how she was taught. Start a pleasant conversation and always try to keep things light.

- i'll be there for you through it all === - T ruth be told, he'd not been expecting anyone besides himself out on the belle valle today. as the afternoon hours roll in quietly, the sky grows to a pale shade of blue, wispy white citrus clouds and the occasional cumulus cluster growing over the expanse of the heavens and setting the mood to a much more darker tone. the dia lord snorts uneasily as he glances skyward, taking in the condition of the steadily paling white atmosphere above with a wary gaze. he's starting to consider that perhaps coming out here was not as great an idea as he once thought, the smile that had been on his maw only moments ago slides off into a small frown. he's not concerned about getting caught in a whiteout, his abilities would be able to lead him to safety easily and if not, then he'd be able to hunker down for a while at least and wait it out. rather, its the fact that he'd rather not be caught out in a blizzard. the breeze still holds little more than a gentle tug in force; a good sign in terms of weather. as long as the winds stay gentle, then no matter how cold it gets, the most the islands would get would be a heavy snowfall. he'd be keeping a close watch on the force of the gales for the rest of the day, at least until he returns to his homelands. a soft sigh escapes past his maw as he lowers his dial, shaking his crown softly. 'well, jedi, seems like you've picked quite the day for a afternoon stroll.' he chastised himself quietly, golden silks falling under the influence of gravity to flutter down over the front of his dial, obscuring his features from view. a jerk of the boa, and he raises his crown back to full height, and comes to a full halt upon the start of an open meadow. he directs his gaze out towards the open plains, taking in the scene before with an air of curiosity. against the paling sky, the world around him seems just that more dead; the birds are gone now, save for the sound off of a nearby raven's cry, and the only other noise in the area seems to be the soft howl of the wind.
the silence unnerves him almost immediately; a sudden unease takes his nerves, a great sense of danger filling his mind as he takes a step back, audits falling back to his crown and glowing orbs narrowing. winter or not, no land was this silent, not without reason, and he's had seven years experience on what those reasons could be. his gaze sweeps the area again, but this time with more intent than before; as expected, there's no hiding place in the area he's in, but if life's lessons have taught him anything, its never trust your sight alone. although he's still not sure the cause, all his self-preservation instincts are screaming at him to leave, and leave quickly. a sharp wicker escapes his vocals as he turns around quickly, heading off in the direction he came from at a quick paced canter. his instincts have never steered him wrong yet; there is something out there, but wherever it is, he's sure he'll never find out. by the time he finally slows down, the feeling of danger is all but gone, and he's half-way back to servo venia. breathing somewhat harshly, he spares a glance upwards towards the heavens; in his retreat, he's forgotten to keep a watch on the weather, but to his thankfulness, there isn't a big change, something that brings him a feeling of relief. while he wasn't overly concerned about the weather, he didn't want to be caught off guard by a sudden change while he was focused on another task. a twitch of his serpentine boa gives his crown a fierce shake to refocus his senses; with the feeling of immediate danger gone, he feels he can afford to relax on his way back to his homelands. that's when he notices her.
she's barely a shadow in his peripheral vision, but with his already high-strung state, its enough to turn his gaze towards her direction. almost immediately, he's curious; with the weather conditions, it is a surprise to see others outside of their homelands like he is. nostrils flare as he soaks in the scent on the wind, trying to decipher what breed this woman is before she gets too close, but as he samples her scent, he's hit by yet another vicious feeling. it is no sense of danger, screaming for him to run, nor a sense of paranoia telling him to be on guard. rather... its a sense of longing, a fierce sorrow that is not his own. all else takes a back seat in the dia lord's focus as the roan woman finally closes the distance, speaking in soft tones; attempts at small talk it seems, but he's not paying attention anymore. a soft look of concern takes his features as he takes in his new company - now that she's closer, he can easily tell she is not an elemental, but rather a mortal, shaded a beautiful dark shade of roan that seems to fit her mood more than it should. still, to ask right out why she is sad would be rude, he realizes. under this overpass sky, with fading light, he seems no different than any other mortal horse, no special markings or his own unique glow to alert others to his breed. this woman may simply think he is just another ordinary horse, and for all he knows she may fear elemental breeds, as many of his fellow equines seem to have grown accustomed to since the zünden have become more aggressive.
that is why, for now instead of asking her of the sorrow he can feel coming off of her in wave after crashing wave, he merely offers a gentle, friendly smile, and tries to hide the fact he still hasn't completely caught his breath back yet from his sudden earlier canter. "good afternoon, m'lady." he greets, young and strong baritones floating out like a soft, calming lullaby as he bows his crown towards the maiden. "yes, i suppose it was... until these clouds came in." he nickers softly in addition as he raises his dial back to full height, sparing yet another quick concerned glance skyward. "pardon my asking, but... are you lost, m'lady? it's dangerous to be out here alone. there may be a snow storm coming." he asks, turning his icy blue gaze back to the mortal maiden. if she was indeed lost, he'd have no trouble offering her temporary shelter from the possible storm approaching, and then escorting her back to her homelands after the storm passed. maybe he could help her release some of that sorrow she held as well...
ooc ;; i've finally got my jedi muse in! i figured out the problem too; i was trying to write him in ra'zac's writing style - these two have very distinct styles and i now know i can't switch them around. jedi's is crisp and story-like. ra'zac's is cryptic and poetic. Shadow was actually surprised that he was so polite. One would think that a lone stallion out in the middle of winter would be one of a bitter nature. Those were usually the ones that wandered alone during this time of the year. They were discarded by herds as dangers to the leaders or just plain nuisances to the mares in the herds. From his simple greeting he just seemed like one of those silly stags who favoured these lands in the warmer months. All they ever wanted was to find a mare, woo her a bit, and either bring them back to their herd or ask them to stay with them and their traveling harem of other foolish girls. Shadow was not a girl who was going to fall for that. She had learned from the best example of that kind of stallion. Though she loved her father, she would never find a stallion who was like him.
Her chocolate eyes followed his own as they headed skyward. "They always seem to damper the mood, don't they?" she commented as her orbs were trained on the approaching snow storm. Every time she was out in a place like this, the weather seemed to pick up on her own grey demeanor. It was like the land was expressing how the roan mare felt on the inside. It had been this way for so long that it was normal to Shadow. She embraced the cloudy weather, the desolate land, even the bitter cold that whipped at her pelt. All of it was better than staying in Liberta with a father who ignored her most the time and half siblings who could easily be her grandchildren.
The fae turned her head toward the perlino as he asked if she was lost. He then warned her that it was dangerous to be out here alone because of the snow storm. "Oh, you don't need to worry about me. I've never been afraid of a little cold." she said, shrugging him off. If he had not been here today, she probably would have laid down in the snow and let the storm come to her, just to see if she could survive the brutal attack on her own. It was always things like this that crossed her mind in these situations. If she was gone, would her father even miss her? Hell, would he even realize that she had not come home? How long would it take until he did? Days? Weeks? Months? Shadow would never know.
"And to answer your question my good sir, I am not lost." Shadow's physical being might not be lost, for she knew this place like the back of her hand. It was her mental and emotional being that was lost, looking for a path where she would truly be loved and have an reason to live other than to make sure Liberta continued to live on. "I am just merely just going where ever my feet feel like they should lead me." she added. "I suppose you aren't lost either then. What brings you out here on a desolate day like this? I mean if you're looking for mares, here is not the place."

- the tears run down my face === - A qua aura orbs never once leave the maiden's own dark hazel hues as her lyrics leave her vocals, agreeing with him upon his observation of the weather conditions before gently dismissing all his concerns about her being lost and the dangers of the snow storm. still, her words do him no comfort. he can still feel those waves of depression, still feel the sorrow leaking from her, and its slowly driving him insane with each passing minute. instinctively, without his knowledge, his gaze softens towards her, sympathetic and wanting to help. its in his nature; all he wants to do is help, nothing else. he's seen what depression can do to a equine, what it did to his mother while he and his brother could only watch while she wasted away in front of them. he, then just a month shy of a year, had been helpless to save his mother, but now surely, at the age of seven and with much more experience than then, he could save this woman, couldn't he? no one deserved to go through that hell that his mother went through, no one. pearl shaded audits perked upright as she fired back her own questions, asking about his appearance here on the belle valle if he himself wasn't lost, and that it was not the best place to seek out mares this time of the season. in spite of himself, he allows a small chuckle of mirth to escape his maw, all memories of his beloved mother and her cruel fate floating away to rest in the back of his mind, where they belonged. yes, he could save this mare, he was certain of it. the fact that she was speaking with him, even with the grey aura circling her, was hope enough for him.
diamond curtains unveil his icy hues once more, a good nature smile twitching over his velvet kissers as he returned full attention back to his companion. "forgive me, ma'am, for my laughter, but i find it simply amusing how many i've come across that assume that as well. the truth is that i have no interest in gathering mares for myself, m'lady. i seek out only friends, not lovers." he wickers calmly, although his orbs are still sparkling in his mirth... almost unnaturally, like stars trapped in a daylight sky. for a moment, he's forgotten about the weather and the fact that he should be heading back for his homelands; it feels some kind of wonderful to speak and laugh with another, even for a small amount of time, and he wants to enjoy it as long as possible. "i guess i was out here today trying to escape for a while." here, he twists his boa to the side and gestures with his dial to the mountain line within sight range - its still a bit of a ways off, but still close enough that he could return before the storm hit. "you see those mountains? just behind the wall lies my homeland of servo venia. i'm the only one who calls those terras home right now though, and walking the same path everyday with no one else but your shadow and your echoes gets boring... and lonely." his tone takes a somber turn as he speaks the word 'lonely' but it's so fast that it might be argued it never happened as he twists his serpentine back to the lady. tilting his regal dial ever so slightly to the left, his smile having returned to his features and his golden banner flicking against his muscled form as the biting winds clap against him, he gives the mare a curious glance. "what about you? where's your home? surely your loved ones must be worried-" he cuts off quickly, orbs widening in shock as he stands stock still and straight, turning his gaze away from his company and staring alertly out into the open grounds like before. the unnerving silence has returned.
the perlino king seems to hold his breath as he takes in his surroundings once again, audits at a point and gaze sharp as ice shards. a nervous snort escapes his nostrils as he again sees nothing, but certainly all the birds he had heard chirping somewhere in the background for the most part didn't just stop singing for no good reason. the plains are still wide open, still easy enough to see whatever danger might be there, but the grass is much taller in this area, and the winds are too harsh to carry a scent. the ice storm is rolling in faster now, and the sense of danger is too much to ignore. "m'lady... something's wrong. we can't stay here." his tone is quiet, but steady and serious, leaving no room for argument. this was not like the moments before, when he just turned around and cantered away. someone else was here with him, a mare at that too, he couldn't just run now. especially if she didn't believe him. the clouds grow slightly darker as the wind picks up, and every passing second sees jedi growing all the more unnerved. all he hears is the blood pounding in his audits, the rhythm of his heartbeat going a little faster than it should, and icy wind whipping the grasses... wait, what was that noise? his dial jerks to the area behind the maiden, and without a second thought he leaps into action, moving to shoulder her out of the way. "watch out!" he whinnies just in time as a pair of claws sink into his flesh and the shriek of a great cat fills in the air. pain registers first in his mind as he releases a cry of agony as the beast claws further at his flank, he second thing that registers in the scent of blood and the appearance of the predator, and his audits fall back to his crown. now the game has changed. its not him he's fighting to defend, but the roan mare as well. and it was a battle against the clock.
he bucks and twists, talons stomping upon mother earth before lifting up into the air once more in rapid succession. hind legs kick out violently, vicious sounding neighs escaping his maw as he twists his boa back to snap at the large feline with his ivory teeth in every attempt to dislodge it from him. the instinctive urge to defend and protect takes over his mind, and his pelt begins to glow brightly with its own light; a second later, the cat is sent flying off of the perlino stag by a beam of solid light, tumbling to the ground ungracefully before leaping to its paws and disappearing back into the plains. jedi gives chase for a moment, stomping his talons upon the earth in a threatening manner before letting up on his assault. the cat wasn't that large, and seemed too thin and too weak for its size; a casualty of the winter and hunger. but after this, he had no doubt it wouldn't try attacking them again. panting, audits still plastered tightly to his crown, and orbs filled with fury, he snorts venomously in the direction it retreated to before his orbs sought out the roan mare again. his robes still glowed with an unearthly light, shining like a glittering gem against the dead lands; there was no way she wouldn't know he was an elemental bred equine now. still, despite the blood that was still flowing from his injuries, and the fact that she may start running at any second now, he starts walking towards her form, orbs searching over her bodice for any sign of injuries. had the beast managed to swipe out at her during the struggle? "you okay? are you hurt anywhere?" he asks, concern leaking from his tone and every word. right now, nothing mattered until he knew that she was unharmed, even as the first drops of freezing sleet began to fall from the sky around them and his injuries continued to bleed. absolutely nothing.
ooc;; it's fine. the posts look good to me. x3 this one's probably not as smooth and is a little rushed i think, but i'm a little tired. xD and i like it, so i'll keep it. xDDD [/blockquote]

The pale stag informed her that he was not here to collect mares, just to make friends. Shadow did not believe that for one second. They might not say they were out an about to collect unsuspecting, naive little things for their harems, but the thought was always present in the back of her mind. Her father was a horse who liked to collect mares and stallions for his herd without the immediate intention of having a number of mares to choose from. He was always out looking for friends as this brute had put it.
Most of those friends ended up having some kind of short lived relationship with him. Shadow could not even count the number of mates her father had since his initial one River, Shadow's mother. Shadow still harboured bitter feelings toward the painted roan who called herself her mother. they had been a happy, loving family who had a nice herd and everyone got along. All the trouble started when River would randomly disappear and wander around the island or what ever it was she did, leaving Shadow and Lassan to themselves and the herd. it was only natural that her father would start to fall for another mare the more her mother was gone. river was gone for a good couple months one time and Lassan had mated with a perky Arab mare Artava, practically claiming her as his new mate. After that issue, River was never to be seen again.
A few years back the painted mare had returned. She was not the beautiful, happy thing that Shadow had fond memories of from her younger years on the island. For a few weeks, they were a happy family again. Or at least as happy as they could be. Both her mother and her father had changed just as much as she had. Those glorious weeks were something Shadow would always hold close to her saddened heart. She did not know what happened next, but suddenly her mother was missing again, never to be heard from again to this very day. Shadow figured that she was probably dead by now. If only she could join her.
The stallion then went on to say that he had come out here to escape for some time. So they were both out here for the same reason? Maybe she had judged his stereotypical approach too harshly. He was just another polite wanderer wanting to get away from the mundane existence of herd life. She completely understood that. Perhaps he too was just looking for somewhere that wanted him with horses who actually gave a damn about his life.
the fae turned her head as the stranger spoke of his home, a land she had only heard of once or twice in her life. It really must be a lonely place if he was the only equine she had ever come across from that land. A bitter smile crossed her face as he asked her about her home. "My home is the same as yours. the only company I have is that of my shadow. No, I won't be missed by anyone in particular." she answered. No one cared. Her half siblings did not like her much, her father loved her but just seemed too bus, and his mate, well, Shadow had noticed the mare never took too kindly to her no matter how hard she had tried. The only true friends she in that land were the ravens who resided there.
Audits flicked to and fro as something seemed to change in the surrounding area. It was almost like there was someone else there beside the stallion and herself, someone who stuck to the shadows to conceal their true identity. Shadow snorted and turned her gaze toward the stag as he started to speak again. "I feel it too. Perhaps it is best that we -" the mare was cut off as the creamy male yelled for her to watch out and shoved her out of the way.
Before she knew what was happening, a large cat had latched itself onto the perlino's back. Shadow's chocolate eyes widened. What the hell was she supposed to do now? Without thinking, shadow flattened her ears and rushed toward the scuffling duo. With a sharp squeal, she sunk her teeth as hard as she could into the side of the cat's rump, trying to avoid the stallion's powerful kicks.
Just as quickly as it had started, shadow pulled away and the beast went tearing off into the shrubbery. She made a face as she tasted the metallic liquid in her mouth. She had definitely got him. Her eyes then flicked to the perlino. His once perfect coat was now torn and spattered with blood. "Don't worry about me." she said, brushing off his question. "You should be more worried about yourself." Those lacerations did not look good. At all.
"Do you have anyone in your herd who can tend to those?" she asked him, her eyes still locked on the fresh wounds. Her caring nature was getting the better of her once again. this was the reason she stayed alive, to help others who had a better chance of making a difference in their lives than she did. If he did not have anyone, she would bring him back to her herd and ask one of the horses to help her fix him up.

- i can show you i'll be the one === - T he feeling of blood running down one's form was a feeling that jedi never liked; he could feel the warmth of his body escaping to the cold, dry atmosphere in the hundreds of drops of brilliant ruby red, staining the glowing white of his mantles a sickening shade of maroon and drowning out the beautiful color. the sting of ripped flesh and tender muscle shot throughout his figure with each movement he made as the adrenaline rush began to die down. it seemed that even the simple expand of his lungs was enough to flare the shot nerves; he fought back a wince of agony as he released a shaky breath cloud from his bleeding nostrils, the capillaries having burst from the effort it took to try and remove the starving feline from his spine. he stands on shaking pillars, crown held low and audits plastered to his crown, hidden beneath the waves of gold as he agonizingly tries to catch his breath. still, despite his own injuries and their severity, he keeps his gaze locked upon the lovely roan maiden before him, searching her stance and actions over carefully, seeking any sign that she is less than healthy, less than completely fine. to any bystander that might've been in the area, it would truly be a sight. a stag had just thrown himself into harm's way for a woman he didn't even know, a mare that he had only met a few moments ago and had only shared a few sentences with. he had pushed her out of the way and taken the beast's claws himself, and still now he was only concerned with her health, her injuries; the strangest part was that he didn't even know her name and he still did all this.
a sharp nicker escaped the dia lord's maw as he caught sight of a small amount of blood near her own velvet kissers, and for a moment, his heart pumped painfully hard against his chest with shame and guilt. his pain numbed mind slowly began to catch up with him, and he quickly and silently poured over the events that happened just moments ago, trying to figure out how that crimson liquid had gotten on her, small as it was. the cat leaped on him, they struggled... a squeal of battle that did not belong to him, a separate pair of talon-falls upon mother earth and an ear splitting shriek of pain from the feline. slowly, the pieces began to fall into place; casting a glance back up towards the crimson smear, he felt the guilt and shame melt away from him, replaced by a feeling of gratefulness and disbelief. that wasn't the roan mare's blood, it was the predator's; that simple fact lifted a great weight off his withers. his dial shook roughly as she brushed off his questions with her own, a shimmering ebony talon scraping against the earth anxiously. "i'll worry for myself when i know you're safe, m'lady. don't worry, i've suffered much worse than these little scratches." he gently assured, although the wince that crossed his handsome features a moment later told otherwise. these weren't just a few simple 'scratches', they were gashes and tears that still oozed away at his life-force. true, he had suffered worse injuries than this, but these were pretty bad themselves. his frontal pistons trembled violently for a moment, and he finally gave into his body's screams for him to lay down and rest, curling his long front pistons underneath his chest and lowering himself to the earth, his hind pillars stretched out to his side. he knew he'd have to get up soon before the storm completely hit, before these few drops of icy rain falling around them turned into sheets, but he'd cross that bridge when he got there.
gaze of sparkling ice turned back to the still nameless but kind woman as she asked about his herd, if there was anyone who could help him. a gentle, thankful smile crossed his maw as he stared at her, sighing softly as he lowered his dial to the hard cold earth for a quick rest. "m'lady, there is not another soul in servo venia. my kind, the dia, were nearly snuffed out in the last decade... my brother and myself are the only dia i know to walk this earth, and i've no idea where he is right now. i am alone." he explained calmly, the lonely lyrics echoing with a soft indifference but tempered with uncertainty as he spoke of his brother. "don't concern yourself with these injuries, m'lady. they'll be gone soon enough, once the sun peeks through the clouds." that wasn't as comforting as he tried to make it sound; the storm was just beginning, it could be hours before the sun peeked through. if he was back in servo venia, he would probably have some sunlight to heal by, but he was not, and in his condition he'd never get back before the storm hit. the almost holy shine on his coat suddenly intensified, and a shield of bright gold and white light covered the air above their crowns, a makeshift umbrella against the steadily growing downpour. he glanced back up at her, and his smile widened slightly. "you attacked the predator, tried to help me... thank you... miss...?" he paused, a funny look coming over his features before he chuckled disbelievingly. "forgive me my manners, m'lady, i didn't ask your name, nor have i given you mine in all this time we've spoken. how rude of me." he sighed softly, closing his white curtains over his orbs in what seemed to be disappointment in himself. "i am blessed as jedi's return, but just call me jedi please. and what be your blessing, m'lady?" he asks kindly, orbs reopening to stare up at the woman curiously. how during all this time they'd been talking had he not asked her title and given his? how disappointing, his father would not be impressed... It did not take a genius to figure out that this stallion was in pain. It was etched in his face and in his shaky breaths. The blood ran down his once pristine pelt like a heavy rain. Crimson stripes now adorned his body, dripping against the snow beneath his hooves. Shadow just did not understand how he could be concerned about her, a mare he had just met and probably never would meet again, over himself. He was the lord of an elemental herd. He was special. How ever many of his breed were still out there needed him. He should most definitely be more concerned about his well-being than Shadow's. It was just logical. She was nothing. Just a normal horse. Yes, she was to take over her father's great herd one day since she was his firstborn from his first mate, but he had other children that probably wanted that responsibility. Shadow did not mind leading when the time came, she had always expected it growing up. She would rather not, but out of all her siblings, she was the most level headed, logical one. Her half-brothers were more concerned with romancing other mares than leading a herd. Most of her half-sisters were unfit. Two of them would always come and go. Flame would be fit to lead, but she was not even Lassan's. She was an adopted daughter who wanted to move on in life. Kibitala, the sibling closest to Shadow's age was a crazy little thing. She would always come and go. No one ever knew if she was alive or dead. The last time she came around was to say hello to the daughter she had dumped on her father and his mate to raise. The only one left would have been Cosette. She was a likable mare, always friendly and ready to talk. The only problem with her was that her head was always in the clouds. She was too much of a dreamer and optimist to successfully lead a herd. She would always overlook the bad and think life was like a fairytale. No, the only fit one of Lassan's children to lead was Shadow.
Shadow raised her brow when he said that he was fine. They were nothing more than some little scratches. "If those are 'little scratches' I'd hate to see what gaping lacerations look like." she said, her eyes running over his marred flesh. The moment she had finished speaking, the stallion's legs gave way. The shaky limbs were too much for him to handle. Within mere seconds the stag lowered himself to the snowy earth at an awkward angle. As much as he wanted to lay down and let the pain subside, trying to forget about it for a little bit, Shadow knew that he could not stay there.
Her chocolate eyes flicked up to the grey sky as she shifted her weight from side to side. "You need to get up." Shadow said. It was not a suggestion, but a demand. She did not care if she had just met him, he needed to get up. If he was not going to do it himself, she might as well tell him. "It might feel good now, but in a few minutes your body won't want you to get up. There are still hungry animals out here." Shadow said, referring to the cat that had attacked them and any other unscrupulous characters that were probably being attracted to the smell of the stallion's blood as they spoke. Besides dangerous predators, the weather was not going to let up. If he somehow managed to survive laying in the open, the cold would kill him. His body was too busy to deal with his injuries and to attempt to keep him warm enough to live.
"You and me both." she whispered, almost to herself when he told her that there were only two of his kind that he knew about on this island. The mare looked back up to the sky when he informed her that he would heal once he could get energy from the sun. "I hate to burst your bubble, but from the looks of it the sun won't be showing its shining self until sometime tomorrow, if not until a couple of days from now." Why was this stallion so adamant on telling her that he was fine? Was he just like all stallions and thought she had to be taken care of first, that he had to prove something by not reacting to what had just happened?
It had slipped her mind that they had not even exchanged names. Normally Shadow would have given her name when introducing herself. Come to think of it, they had just gone right into conversation without even making time for names and the like. "Shadow." she finished his sentence. "It seems as though we both forgot to exchange pleasantries that are normally expected of horses of our positions." she said with a dry laugh. "Well it is nice to meet you Jedi." Shadow said with a slight nod of her head. What an interesting name. "As much as I like conversing with you, I think we should move this elsewhere before someone or something tries to kill you. If you'd like you can come with me back to my homeland. It is not far from here and we could get those wounds taken care of until the sun can come out for you."

- days grow longer and nights grow shorter === - A good few moments had long passed since the attack, and by this time, a beautiful sort of numbness was taking over the lord's figure, just an edge that seemed to drip over the searing pain he felt, like sleep that just seemed to be out of one's reaching grasp. the feeling was not unknown to the handsome stag, but yet seemed like a new stranger giving off a sickly sweet greeting, promising rest and freedom from pain. jedi knew better; as new as the sensation seems to his overactive form, still high on adrenaline and riding down ever so slowly, he knows better than to listen to it, especially right now as the weather steadily grows worse. the lady is right; the sun will not be out for hours, far too long for him to wait on the healing rays to touch his wounds. the woman he has just met and protected orders him to rise, and he listens fighting off the numbness and forcing himself to his talons. marred flesh screams for him to lay back down, to allow the numbness to take him and sleep for a while, but he refuses adamantly with a shake of his regal crown, golden tresses flaying and spilling over his nape and boa like waves of water. the small bit of light that he himself has set off to give the two shelter from the sleeting rain above has helped some; the small nicks and scratches that didn't bleed much have disappeared now, but the more major and serious injuries will require much more tending to than a small beam of light to close.
the king of servo venia pants heavily, audits to his crown as he flicks his tassel harshly behind him, stinging the injuries in an effort to ward off any feeling of tiredness. small pools of lifeblood have gathered beneath him, which are at the moment nothing life-threatening yet, but enough to be concerned about if they keep bleeding. they need tending to, and with no one in servo venia, his only hope of avoiding other complications lay with this woman. they've only now given their names, only moments earlier having struck up a conversation, but the instinctive pull to protect, to heal and defend and befriend, is too strong for anyone to ignore. jedi has never fought it before, his heart just as pure as the light he commands and lives off of, and the thought that the cat could've done this to her had he not intervened is a thought he would rather banish from his mind than entertain another second. finally able to gather his breath, the pristine beast sets his crystal gaze upon the blue roan, audits perked forward as she finishes his sentence in asking for her title. shadow. he tests the name silently behind his maw and smiles towards her. "shadow. a lovely name, m'lady." he nickers, dipping his crown to her in greeting and respect. why he had not offered his title before or asked her for hers is beyond him, but he supposes it does not matter anymore. a wicker of amusement escapes him in spite of everything as she points out their forgetfulness, but he merely shakes his crown gently. "so it seems, but everyone forgets things sometimes i suppose." he chuckles softly.
surprise filters through his eyes as she offers to take him to her herd for healing, a generous offer but one he is hesitant in taking. he does not wish to burden anyone with his problems, but the thought of this woman traveling back in this sleet and rain is one he doesn't care for. only his shield of light keeps them dry right now, waves of gold, silver, red and orange traveling just over their heads as if having a life of its own. if anything, he'd rather see her home himself, especially if that predator was still lurking about... or other unsavory beasts. in light of these things, he nods in response, wishing to see her home safely more than anything, especially over his health. "leaving this place is the best idea. my home isn't too far either, but the pathway is most likely too dangerous to enter now." that was the truth; the portavia was a dangerous passway, and with his condition, he would've had to wait out the storm until the sun return before attempting to cross the fog. a nervous talon flicks against the ground, a painful snort and wince flying by his features as he considers his options. "you are very kind, m'lady... i do wish to accompany you back to your homeland to see you home safely and weather out the storm. however, i don't wish to burden you or your herd, lady shadow; i promise i shall not overstay my welcome." he explains earnestly, sincerely, sounding less like a lord and more like a lone wanderer. it is the reason he has never stayed in one place too long besides servo venia; he takes on the burdens of the weary and broken, but refuses to burden others with his own. that is why he was more concerned with her and trying to pass off his wounds as nothing. selfless to the end, that was jedi... sith would've snorted in disgust if he could see this now.

"It seems mother and father thought so as well." Shadow said when he commented on her name. She really hated her name. She really was a shadow. She had followed her mother around, wanting to be just like her. She looked up to the great black stallion that was Lassan of Liberta. She was expected to follow in his hoof prints by everyone in the herd and even by those who knew of the herd. She was the chosen one, the golden child, the heir to Liberta's throne. everyone would expect her to be like her father. she was sure that when her day came to lead the land and the horses in it, they would look down their noses at her the moment she tried to change something her father had 'set in stone' before her expected reign. She was just living in the shadows of those before her. Why could she not have been graced with a more unique name like Jedi was? His name might mean something, but it was not an ironic misfortune like hers had turned out to be. He was carving his own path and here she was, just waiting to fulfill the duty that was expected of her. what a pitiful life.
Shadow looked up as a vivid aura of light surrounded them. How was he able to do that in such a weakened state? The power of the elemental horses never ceased to amaze her. Luckily for Shadow, every single one she had come across was a kind soul like Jedi. The plethora of colours above their heads was simply a breathtaking sight to be witness to. Not many of her kind had this chance. If she were another, happier horse like her sister Cosette, she would truly appreciate the beauty and mystery of what Jedi was providing for them, for her. Instead Shadow just thought the colours were nice and she was finally happy to be shielded from some of the cold weather beating down on them.
"How can you only think about me, making sure I get home safely, when you are losing precious time by bleeding all over?" she asked. This was a question most would keep in their head. Not Shadow. She honestly wanted to know. "I should be the one saying I need to see you home safely." Something told Shadow that he might think that 'unladylike' of her, or something to that extent given his overly chivalrous personality, but she did not care. It was what had been taught to her at a young age; being a good leader meant watching out and caring for those who were with you. It was just something a strong leader did. The roan vixen really did have a wonderful sense of leadership. Shadow did not like to admit it, or even recognize it as a fact for that matter.
"Don't worry yourself about staying in Liberta for too long Jedi." she told him as they slowly began their short trek to her homeland. "Many horses come for what they say will be a short time but end up staying. Even the ones who do end up leaving like they say they will always end up coming back for numerous visits." She figured talking was the best way to keep him going. It would keep his mind off something other than the intense pain he was probably experiencing right now. She had a lot of practice doing this with her young brothers. As long as you talked to them and kept their minds off what was actually going on, they seemed to get places faster and do what needed to be done to help themselves out. "Perhaps you will take a liking to someone in the herd and find a reason to come back for a visit. Like I said before, I believe my father will take an instant liking to you. you are the kind of stallion he holds in high regard."
It took them almost double the time it normally took Shadow to get to Liberta from Belle Valle. Surprisingly enough the delay seemed to be from the building snow and low visibility rather than the wounds Jedi had suffered from the cougar attack. "Well this is home." she said when they entered the snow covered canyon. In the warm months this portion of the land was a beautiful emerald field where most of the horses favoured grazing in the evenings to escape the heat. It was nice having rocky walls to constantly provide areas of shade in the summer. "It doesn't look like much, but there are worse places to make a living."
As if by magic, her voice seemed to attracted the attention of one of the ravens perched on a lone tree. The bird flew down to them, landing itself on Shadow's rump as it ruffled its feathers. "Hello Illiana." Shadow said, turning her head to nod at the bird. the mare turned her attention to Jedi who was probably confused by this strange sight. Most horses were when they first saw it. "Liberta and the ravens of this island have a very close bond. They are perhaps one of our best allies. We provide them with a safe place to live and raise their families while they swear their allegiance to us. Having them around is the reason we have been able to be safe during many of these Zunden attacks." Shadow explained. "They are also wonderful messengers." she added.
"Y'want me t'get your father?" the bird asked her, taking Shadow's last statement as a cue to find the ebony stallion.
"That would be wonderful if you could." Shadow answered.
"Alrigh', I think I saw 'im talking with my da a bit ago." she said, giving her dark feathers another shake. the raven turned her head and narrowed her beady eyes on the stallion's wounds. "Those look like they smart quite a bit." Illiana noted before taking off into the sky.
"Its funny how each horse here seems to truly befriend one raven, favouring them over all the others. Its almost like having a constant companion who you know will never abandon you, even when every other horse will. Illiana just happened to be the one that grew on me. Her father, Giltrent, is one of my father's best friends." The whole thing was pretty ridiculous, but it was the one thing unique to the horses in this land.

|
- i've figured out how this world turns so cold... === - L ittle did shadow really understand, but once more jedi was exhausting himself to keep her safe. the colorful field above them dazzled, glowed and moved, releasing small bursts of warmth in its wake, an attempt at keeping the chill away for as long as possible. the field was strong, able to push the sleet and water away without so much as wavering, a solid wall of living, protective light... but it would not stay that way for long. for light to be strong, it has to come from a strong source, and with every passing minute jedi was weakening. the blood's slow trickle still seeped away at his energy, and it was taking more and more effort to keep the shield up at full strength than it should've. still, he keeps it up, refusing to waver in the face of this adversary, in the face of his own weakness. he'd been weak for far too long, and that weakness cost him so much every time; his mother, his brother, his friends... her... he snorts suddenly, closing his icy hues tightly as he banishes the thoughts without a second's hesitation. now was not the time to think about those things, especially not about her. even now, he feels the sting of fresh pain slash at his heart, vicious and unforgiving, sharper than any claws could ever be. somehow, he manages to push the pain down once again, if only for the moment. there are more pressing matters to deal with. like getting the lady shadow home. diamond auds flick up as shadow begins speaking, a small relief to the turmoil he feels, something else to focus on, and she asks why he is so concerned for her when he is the one in trouble. why? how many have actually asked that question before?
a small smile crawls over his maw again, a soft whuffle escaping as he closes his orbs slowly, keeping his talons moving in rhythm with her own pace. he doesn't have to think long on his answer, because he's known it ever since he first started using his abilities. "because it is my nature, m'lady." he nickered gently, his pained lyrics coming in short pants. "the dia are not ordinary elementals - we are empathic, we can feel the emotions of others, the pain, the joy, the anger... the sorrow." here, he glances at her discreetly through thick lashes, remembering the thick cloud of depression that brought his attention to her in the first place. "when you can feel those things, the deep pain, the overwhelming fear... you know it isn't your own, but... all the same, how can you just leave them in that hell? the first time you feel it, suddenly your problems become so small compared to them, and all you want to do is take the hurt away, make them feel protected and safe so that they never feel that again... because if you can't take just a second of feeling their pain, how can you let them feel it... without trying to... help?" he pauses here, trying to catch his breath as the shield suddenly wavers, flashing in and out of existence. only a moment later he manages to stabilize it, his dial shaking as a frustrated sound passes through his ivories. without the shield they were sitting ducks in the storm; he can't let it waver again.
once his wits have been gathered again, the shining knight turns his focus again to the maiden, offering a gentle and comforting smile to show he was fine despite what had just happened. oh, but what she didn't know... there was one thing he didn't mention in his explanation about his breed. what it meant to understand and feel those emotions... what it was to feel those emotions for yourself and take them on, and how it felt when you couldn't do anything about it and you watched when life fled the form of a creature that thought and felt for itself only seconds before... only a dia could understand feeling that emptiness, that void of emotion that came with the death of a sentient being. the void that he had felt many times before and tried to prevent ever since the first time. it was with a thankful heart that shadow kept talking, pulling him from those thoughts and back to the present. as she spoke of her homeland, and of its inhabitants, jedi couldn't help but marvel at the image that was painted before his mind's eye. after being alone for so long, it would be a blessing to be surrounded by so many... "it sounds like a heavenly place, m'lady. i would be honored to meet the stallion who created it..." it was all he could say, because any more and he was sure he would pass out. now all his energy was focusing on just keeping the shield up... which was seemingly starting to slowly fade...
jedi had long lost track of the time when they came to a stop, and the lady shadow announced that they had arrived in the lands liberta. ice blue orbs shimmered softly as the bleeding king raised his dial up and looked around at his new surroundings, taking in all that was liberta. he barely heard when shadow mentioned it wasn't much to look at, but only smiled in return. "nonsense, it's beautiful, m'lady. it reminds me of my home, surrounded by these great cliffs and mountains." his lyrics were almost a whisper now, unable to raise his baritones any further. only seconds later, he was greeted to the sight of a raven flying down to them, and shadow struck up a conversation with the bird, illiana, before explaining about her herd's bond with these birds and their families. jedi merely smiles weakly before giving a small greeting to illiana in response just before she flew away to retrieve the lead of liberta. as shadow spoke again, her voice seemed to be getting fainter in his audits, weakness starting to overtake him. "that does sound nice... i wish... i had someone like... that..." and suddenly the shield is gone, and the king's pillars fail him, crumbling slowly to the earth as he lays down again. he has pushed himself past exhaustion now... only his will is keeping him awake and half-way alert. if only the sun would touch him once....
ooc ;; i am so sorry for the long wait! Dx [/blockquote]
