d29fd5 SPEECH
Chrissy looked over the barren landscape, her ears pricked as she scanned the barren meadow. Her breath curled out of her nose in a smokey vapor in the cold air, her lungs stinging a bit with the intake of the bitter air. Life here in Liberta was so boring. It seemed the only highlight of her days here was her daughter, Scarrlette. She was only two months old, but she was very creative and quite the humorous little filly. She often entertained both of them with her little antics, but even both of them grew a bit restless with the aimless wandering of the vast lands. It all looked the same during the winter. Chrissy glanced over to the filly as she nursed from her, watching as her short tail waved furiously back and forth as she did so. She briefly pawed the ground, always bored at having to be idle while her daughter fed. Being a mother wasn't a huge thing for her, frankly it was easy, but she still wished that she could have her old life back. Her brother was infuriated with her, and she hoped that he would still speak to her when Scarrlette was old enough to accompany her to venture out into Scure to find him. She missed her brother dearly, and missed their wanderings together. But because of her mistake, she was stuck here with a child. What was worse, was that she never saw Zeake. It was so convenient for him, he didn't have to raise anyone and got to run off and do whatever the hell he wanted. But fine, she didn't need him, she wasn't his mate anyway. He needed to grow up for him to reach her suddenly higher standards. Once Scarrlette was old enough, she was going to head out and find herself a mature stallion that really knew how to treat a mare correctly.

Polaris had always had eyes for Chrissy. Ever since the day he met her, he had fallen for her. He had taken the route he did with every horse he met. He wanted to get to know them. He just wanted to talk and become friends. He was the kind of stallion who wanted to develop a friendship before a relationship. Sadly, a friendship was all that had formed between him and Chrissy.
Before he ever had a chance to tell her anything about how he felt for her, his damned brother Zeake had to barge in and sweep her off her hooves. His bold, overly-flirtatious brother had that 'bad boy' streak that someone like Chrissy was sure to be attracted to. Stereotypes proved right in this case.
Now Chrissy and Zeake even had a child together. It was almost sickening. Zeake never even showed up for Chrissy or their daughter Scarrlette. Polaris was the one who came to talk to her. Polaris was the one who played with and entertained Scarrlette when Chrissy needed a break. Polaris was the one who deserved Chrissy. But no. He would always be the best friend who was right there for her no matter what as she continued to see his idiot brother. He really did love his little brother, but Zeake could be such an idiot sometimes.
The brindle slowed his pace as he saw Chrissy and Scarrlette several strides ahead. "Good morning you two!" he called out with a grin. Today he was going to see if Chrissy would let Scarlette come with him to one of the hidden beaches in Liberta. They were some of the most secluded, magical places. Polaris was sure the little girl would enjoy.

d29fd5 SPEECH
Chrissy's ears pricked at the sound of Polaris' voice, and immediately her mood perked. Now, what she couldn't understand is why Zeake couldn't be like him. He was a spectacular horse, he was always there for everyone, especially for her and Scarrlette. She would surely die of boredom if the stallion didn't come by and visit them. Scarrlette pulled back from her mother and turned her dainty head, her eyes widening at the sight of Polaris. "Uncle Poly!" she shrieked, bounding over to the stallion with a broad grin. "Poly poly poly," she chanted as she began to circle the stallion at a bouncing trot. Chrissy gave a amused laugh, shaking her head as she shook her mane and stepped towards the pair. "Good morning," she said cheerfully, smiling at him. "What have you been up to today?"

The brindle smiled as the foal bounded up to him. Scarlette was the one foal who made him want to have one of his own one day. She was so loving, so fun, and always full of wonder. She was amused by the simplest things and fascinated by anything that Polaris had to teach her. Yes, he definitely wanted one of his own one day. He had tried to get over Chrissy. She had chosen his brother over him. His heart still ached for her, but over time it was beginning to dull. Now that Scarlette was around, he was growing more fond of her, thinking of himself as her adoptive father. Hell knew Zeake was not not around for her.
The smile remained on his face as his eyes traveled from the the enthusiastic foal to her mother. "Staying out of trouble, as usual." he answered her with a playful glint in his eye. Truth be told, he had been doing nothing more than grazing since he woke up. Things were often uneventful for the stallion while he spent his time in Liberta. "I'm sure you two have had a much more interesting morning than I have, yes?" he asked, his eyes flicking between the two of them, almost expecting the little filly to butt in with an account of her daily activities. Those two really did make his life more exciting.

964e9a SPEECH
Chrissy looked on with amusement as her daughter pranced around the stallion, chuckling softly. Scarrlette loved her 'Uncle Poly'; practically every other thing that came out of her mouth was about him. She was ever grateful for Polaris when he came around, because there weren't many young horses to be playmates with Scarrlette. She would otherwise drive her up the wall; you never knew what a bored filly was capable of doing. It bothered Chrissy a bit that she never really mentioned her father, Zeake. On the occasion that she did, she only asked where he was. She always had to answer "away, dear", and after a while, she quit asking. The only time she could remember Scarrlette seeing Zeake was shortly after she was born. She had to suffer through the labor pains alone, scared out of her mind. It was about time she would put her foot down; next time Zeake tried crawling back, she would set him straight. But it seemed like a hopeless prospect; he always seemed to bring out her softer side, and as soon as she saw his face she was always ready to forgive him for whatever excuse he had. She was whipped without even trying.
Chrissy shook her mane, smirking slightly. "You, Polaris? Stay out of trouble? That's virtually impossible," she teased, nudging the stallion lightly with her nose on his neck. She turned her attention to her filly, already knowing she was going to go off about whatever she had seen today as soon as Polaris asked. "Well, one of those BIG ravens came over to talk to us today! He was nice, but he was still scary looking. He looked almost bigger than me! And I told momma, that has to be the biggest bird I ever saw. But she said there were bigger! Are there bigger birds, Uncle Poly? She said there's really big birds down by the sea. Do you think you can take me there? I want to see for myself." The brindled filly stared up at Polaris with bright pink eyes, eager. "I don't see a problem with going to the sea, Scarrlette. I can take you there," Chrissy said, amused. "Nope! I want Polaris to take me. But you can come too if you want, momma. " Chrissy laughed, shaking her head before turning to Polaris with a questioning look. "What do you say, Polaris? Want to take a trip over to the beach?"

P ✸ L A R I S A genuine smile spread across his velvety maw as Chrissy's body came in contact with his own. It had been awhile since he had seen her joke and smile like she was. Sure she put on that fake smile for her daughter and would play along half-heartedly, but Polaris knew that she had been sad. Depressed even. Her lover, her mate, his damn brother, was gone. Abandoned the sweet mare and their daughter to practically fend for themselves. Scarlette was lucky to be born in a land with suck kind horses. Just like his younger sister Cosette, Scarlette was a pure, naive, innocent little thing who had never been exposed to the cruelties of the world other than her father not showing up. She truly was lucky. But now was not a time for such dismal thoughts. This was a happy time. A time for family and fun. Polaris could give these two girls that for a few hours. They both deserved it. He would do what his brother could not, would not, do.
Polaris turned his attention to the filly as she began to ramble on about the ravens in the land. Every young horse always seemed to be fascinated by those large black hellions. Polaris could remember when he was a colt, he was just as curious about them. They seemed to be the one creature horses on the island got along best with. It was a strange partnership, but it had worked for years and years. Ravens and horses.
"You're lucky he didn't try to eat you." Polaris said with an obvious wink to let the filly know he was joking. He did not want to scare her off from the ravens at such an impressionable age. "Ah yes, there are birds bigger than the ravens around here. But like your mother said, they only live by the water." It was so funny how a child could get so excited over as something as simple as a bird. How Polaris wished he could be like that again.
The filly then began to beg for him to take her to go see the big birds by the sea. Polaris shot Chrissy a glance to make sure that it was alright with her. He would take Scarlette anywhere in a heartbeat, but he knew that her mother needed to have a say so in adventures like this as well. After all, Scarlette was practically a baby still.
"I would love to take you to go see the sea birds Scarlette." Polaris said enthusiastically once Chrissy had okayed this whole ordeal. "Maybe we can get one of them to play a game of tag." he added, knowing that the young sea birds were rather fond of chasing horses around. He had spent hours by the sea when he was younger, just playing in the surf while his father and mother watched on. He really did miss those days.
"Follow me girls." he said, turning and beckoning with a nod of his head. "The ocean awaits us!"
