the mare thought, turning away from the retreating figure of Ciar, disappearing into the brush nearby. Ciar's hooves stopped the stallion's mobile body, and he turned his head to where Malice had been standing moments before. A sigh escaped the stallion, somewhat glad that the matron had moved off, had stopped bothering him about how he was feeling. Head turned back to look in the direction he was originally headed, ears tilted foward. Where exactly had he been planning on going?Warm air vented up from one of the magma pools, the steam sizzling as it reached the cooling air of Isola. Nearby stood the ashen body of Fuoco's Lady, Malice, as she scanned the pools for any sign of the herd she looked over with Aiden. At her side, like most days now, stood Ciar, the proud underling of the ashy Zunden mare. His head was lowered, a sadden look crossed over his face, eyes partly closed. Malice turned her head to look at the stallion, an ear twitching at his depressed state. I, honestly, don't see why you should be upset. Besides, it's Aiden's daughter, and I consider you a brother, so I see it as something to be frowned upon, Malice's eyes moved away from the form of her right-hand horse, to the magma pools, breathing in the smell of sulfur that seethed up from the earth, Don't get my wrong, dear. Firefly is a fine mare and Zunden, but she is young. There is always going to be other fish in the pond. The Lady smiled the most sincere smile she could muster, but Ciar wasn't going to have it. Ears pinned against the bay stallion's head, and he moved away from her.
She might be young, Malice, but I still care about her, he hissed at the mare, slapping his tail against his hide as his hooves moved him away from the Lady's side, off toward the other part of the magma fields. As Ciar left, Malice merely shook her head, breathing out. And we all thought mares were the moody ones,
The beach. He remembered visiting one of the beaches on Isola with Firefly, soaking in the cool waters. Hooves spurred the stallion into motion, the bay moving out of the magma fields, off toward the sands of Fuoco's pretty beaches. In no time, the Zunden had made it to the sandy reaches, the smell of salt water and volcanic ash mingling in the air. A shiver ran through the stallion, as he walked upon the sands, toward the water's edge. He missed Firefly. After their little rendezvous, he hadn't seen much of the Lord's daughter. Had she not wanted to talk to him? Was she ashamed of what they had done? Frowning at his thoughts, Ciar hadn't realized until that point that he walked into the waters, the small waves lapping at his knees.
He stood still now, staring off into the distance, watching as clouds boiled within the sky, threatening the island with yet another storm.[/blockquote]
