[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]Summer months slowly were lazing away, fading into autumn, where the days got colder as winter crept in and grasped the island. The trees weren't changing their colors yet, the leaves a brilliant green still, obviously more alive than much of the island. From within the trees of Bella Valle, a gentle creature stirred from it's nap, ears twitching on top of it's skull, listening to the sounds of it's surroundings. Hooves scrabbled against the forest floor, pushing the painted creature who slumbered there up toward the heavens, brilliant two-toned eyes glancing around. Breathing in deeply, the mare's nostrils quivered, the exciting smell of the forest and it's inhabitants causing her legs to spur into motion, pushing the creature through the brush and bramble. Brilliant sunlight shimmered ahead, in the meadow where the painted female soon would be grazing, the delectable grasses calling to her.
Something caused the mare to pause, however, her head turning to look to her left. She could've sworn something moved, parallel to her, also heading to the grassy knoll. A low snort escaped the painted essa, and she shook her head, pushing the roaming thoughts from her head. Hooves moved the mare once more, and the sunlight instantly warmed her coat as she entered the open meadow. Another deep breath, and a small smile tugged at the corners of the young horse's mouth. She had begun to enjoy stumbling upon this island months ago, the wonders captivating her, much more than her homelands had. Thinking of home caused the smile to fade almost instantly, and a saddness washed over her.
Home. Her father had been there, before he had perished because of that damned feline. She could remember the wild whinnies he had emitted, remember seeing him falling from the cliff edge, before everything went black. Her bi-colored eyes blinked, the tears that had been welling there disappearing, as she pushed the memories into the little lock box she had conjured just for those thoughts. She was free now, away from her father's rule, in a new land, to start her own life. Such thoughts weren't welcomed when she wanted to be happy.
Her blackish tail swept across her hide, shooing away the flying pests that enjoyed the summer months as much as the horses did. Ears twitched in annoyance at the buzzing flies, wishing them a fiery death, as she lowered her head to the grasses. Their taste was so unlike the grasses from her homelands, miles away from the sea. These were more salty, but they tasted magnificent. She would choose this place over anything in a heartbeat. Suddenly, the mare lifted her head from her meal, eyes glancing to the forest. Ephixa could feel someone watching her, or at least, she thought someone was. Perhaps she was going insane finally. Her mother, before she had been taken by the humans, had told her of horses going mad due to their lack of socialization with others. That they literally lost their minds, and started seeing and hearing things that weren't there.
Perhaps that was what Ephixa was going through! Smirking at the thought, the mare tore her gaze away from the forest surrounding her little haven, lowering her muzzle to the Earth once more, nibbling at the grasses. Oh, how glorious life could be.

OSCURITA.A breeze lapped over the mature stallion's back, ruffling his dark, glossy mahogany coat, steel orbs staring blankly to the horizon. He was bored. He was tired. He'd made so many mistakes in his life, and as much as he hated to admit it, he wasn't the carefree young brute he had been several years ago - and the years he had survived had began to add up. He was approaching his 16th autumn on this island, and you could see the telltale look in his cold eyes that he hadn't had it easy - along with the scar over his left eye, jagged, and the slash mark on his right shoulder. His face also had become wiser, no softer with the years but he just looked bitter rather than psychotic these days... Probably a good thing.
The dark stag had been wandering aimlessly, eating a bit of lush grass here and there and pausing in the shade to avoid the sun - having such a dark coat made him absorb the sun's harsh heat and he hated the feel of it scorching his back. Ink banner flicked lazily, swatting a few stray flies and it was only by chance that he looked sideways and saw the fae.
She was a mere 20 metres away, heading in the opposite direction towards the clearing of grass, and without a sound Obby turned tail and began to stalk alongside her - frankly out of habit more than anything; he had taken advantage of far too many dangerously alone vixens in his time. His coal hooves, silent as the grave picked through the undergrowth, and watched as she daintily entered the clearing, the ivory of her coat bright, the rest shimmering with the light. Pretty mare. Maybe he should introduce himself.
Still, he didn't move for quite some time, and instead just watched her, occasionally c.ocking his cranium to the side as she did something interesting. She looked in his general direction again, eyes looking slightly stern as she glared over, not seeing the dark brute in the blackness of the trees. Silly fae, so vulnerable out here by herself. He'd easily outrun her if she ran and there was only open fields and the occasional forest here, not that he was thinking of harming her in any way, just habit to check out the surroundings.
He stepped slowly from the shade, making enough noise so she would hear him but not so much it seemed obvious, and approached, a slight smile tucking the corners of his dark lips up, and spoke in husky tones, "Why hello there little fae. Shouldn't be wandering around this Island by yourself, far too many dodgy characters around." He grinned knowingly, allowing his now brightening silver orbs to dance once up and down her figure, chuckling slightly, as if he was spectating an animal in a zoo. Then the laughing stopped, and stared silently into her eyes, a sinister smile still plastered over his kissers. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]As it were, Ephixa heard Oscurita enter her little meadow before she saw him. Why did stallions insist on making as much noise as possible? Flaring her nostrils in slight irritation at the interruption, the mare lifted her head once again from her grazing, blue and green eyes staring straight at the muddy hued brute. How the hell was this? Ears danced as he spoke, something about dodgy characters. This caused a smirk to cross the mare's pink lips, and bi-colored eyes blinked innocently at him, though she was far from. |
[/font] Dodg'y chara'ters, yeh say? If yeh don't mind me sayin' so, ya look pretty dodg'y t'me,[/font] her words drawled out, eyes flashing slightly as she spoke. An ear tilted toward him, the other lazing between being flattened against her skull and perked forward like the other one.
A shoulder twitched, as a fly landed on it, but Ephixa's attention was more drawn to this unknown beast than the fly that decided to try to eat her. What is it ya want, anyways? Can't yeh just let a poor little mare alone,[/font] the mare's eyes narrowed at Oscurita, a hoof raised then stomped on the grassy ground. She didn't really care if he was here, if he didn't do anything stupid. Blinking her bi-colored eyes again, she tilted her head at the stallion. He sure was an interesting creature. He probably was much older than her, by the looks of the scars and everything.------------ EPHIXA. TWO HUNDRED FORTY THREE. UNDER THE STARS, THE LION KING. OSCURITA.Well this young fae had attitude. Enough of it to sink a ship. He liked it, it made a change, most mares simply bowed down to stallions, acting very much like the damsels in distress, and most of the time Oscurita was the one doing the distressing, or at least in his past he did. He liked to think he had matured in mind more than body, but sadly it was a bit of both.
He chuckled loudly, the noise tumbling roughly from parted kissers, at her first statement and replied cooly, "Naivete can be quite the killer little one, it's a good job you weren't meeting me for the first time 5 years ago or my response may have been quite different." He shifted his weight to a hind leg lazily, flicking his banner and arching his long neck, invading her personal space and waiting to see how she'd respond.. It was always a game to him, seeing how other horses acted under certain conditions, made him a very good judge of character, most of the time. Sometimes surprises came along though.
Radars pricked as she spoke again, but swiftly relaxed and his face, expression blank, turned directly to her, locking eyes with her. "Your accent is most peculiar, may I possibly ask where you originally came from? And I would ask for your name but I wouldn't want to pester a "poor little mare" such as yourself." He chortled slightly as he said "poor little mare", quoting the vixen herself; it was peculiar how she described herself as one thing but acted like another, clearly she thought she could look after herself, and her body language screamed that also, but was almost mocking Oscurita for assuming she couldn't look after herself. C.ocky little thing she was.
His eyes questioned hers when she tilted her head to look at him, and mirrored the gesture. She was an easy sight for the eyes, to put it politely, and a heck of a lot younger than the stallion himself, or maybe he just felt old - it seemed as though he'd aged 20 years in a few months. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]It's a good thing I ain't as naive as ya make me outta be, the mare smirked, tossing her head in the air slightly, almost as if she were offended by his words. Ephixa never too such things to heart, she learned how to ignore the simple, snide remarks others made. Her fairly short tail whipped at her rump, shooing away the pesky flies once more. Two-toned eyes stayed focused on this mahogany stallion, ears now tilted forward with general curiosity.
As her eyes blinked, her ears caught him asking where she was from, as her accent clearly caught his attention. A coy smirk crossed her maw, as she had clearly not minded his shift in position, coming ever closer to the mare. Invading her personal bubble, as one would say. This stallion had some balls to try to do something like that with a mare. Usually, when she was being the shy little babe her father had raised, she would have bit at him and told him to go fuck off.
Today, however, was not one of those days. Instead, she reached her muzzle forward, tapping it gently onto his own. I was born across that big body of water surroundin' this island. In a small herd run by my Daddy. Sadly, a predator got ta him and killed him, |
[/font] the mare spoke calmly as she pulled her muzzle away, eyes still upon the stallion. She didn't say anything else for a moment, then let a small smile cross her muzzle. M'name is Exphixa. Oscurita was surprised by her response to him invading her personal space, as instead of moving away, smelling the danger that the brute seemed to radiate, she moved closer, in fact pressed her soft maw against his. No facial expression crossed his handsome features, and instead he stared forwards calmly, eyes glittering sternly, perhaps a slight tucking of a smile in one corner of his mouth.
A shallow nod was his only response to the talk of her Father, but internally his mind was ticking away softly; the way she spoke of death so non-chalontly, with such ease... Maybe she was a stronger mare than he thought, maybe she too had seen death.
Radars pricked as she spoke again, this time of her name, as she stared confidently into his steel orbs, and asked for his calling - most mares wouldn't be so forwards, as it was seen quite inappropriate for a mare to be so... Or maybe Oscurita was just old-fashioned. He replied politely, biting his tongue, "It's a pleasure Ephixa. My name is Oscurita."
Softly he reached out with his long frame until he was an inch from hers, and blew gently through her mane, ruffling the silken strands - it wasn't that he was particularly trying anything dodgy, just that he already seemed quite comfortable with the mare, and wanted to catch her scent so he could find her again, possibly. Obby recoiled, ashamed of how soft he had gone in his old age, debating on some violence just to perk things up... Yet didn't think he could bring himself to hurt the mare, Ephixa. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]Oscurita. She'd have to remember that for later. Ears tilted forward, as he stepped closer to her, ruffling with her mane. Nostrils flared, almost about to reach out to reprimand him, but restrained herself. Blinking her multi-colored eyes, Ephixa let her tail sway nonchalantly, not really caring if he touched her or not. As he recoiled, she turned her head to look at him, quite curious as to why.
Yeh sure are an interestin' horse, Oscur'ta. Yeh have every asp'ct of bein' dark and cruel, but here ya are, bein' all nice. I say yer just puttin' up a front, an ear tilted toward the stallion, as she side-stepped away, tail flicking wildly behind her painted body. Flaring her nostrils at him, she gave a half-smile. Perhaps it is only a ruse?

He chuckled again as she spoke, but chose not to reply - if he told her the truth she'd probably run a mile, as he definitely wasn't 'nice'. Although, he had matured slightly as torture and other abominations didn't have the same effect as they used to, and he no longer craved to see the look of fear in a mare's eyes, or anything of violence anymore so to speak. Not to say he wasn't dangerous - hell, should you find him in a bad mood you'd better start running - quickly.
The brute's mind had been wandering when her strange accent lulled him back to the present, mahogany cranium jerking to look at her, steel orbs glinting, an simply replied, "Ah, but if it was a ruse surely I would tell you it wasn't, and so you can never trust words, but only actions. However, personally if I had been planning any bad behaviour you would have known about it by now." Lips pulled back to form a crooked smile, and he watched for her reaction to his words.
His large frame shifted slightly, moving his weight into a more relaxed stance, coal strands of fringe swaying in the gentle breeze that rolled through the opening. He allowed his glittering eyes to swim over every inch of her, drinking in her scent with flared nostrils before speaking again,"So, how long have you been on this Island?" Word count = 235[/color]

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]Lips pursed, and the mare stood there quite silent, her eyes searching his face. An ear twitched, almost nervously, then she snorted at him. Blinking her wildly colored eyes at him, she then turned her head away to look at the surrounding forest, the shadows dancing as the sun shifted behind a passing cloud. Turning her gaze back to this strange stallion, she tilted her head once again, continuing her staring. Tell me or not, Oscur'ta, I know a bad stallion when I see one. And yeh, sir, ain't no precious stone. Ya have done dark deeds in yer time, done some very bad things t' others. Why I still talk to ya, I have not a clue, but yer very interestin' t' say the least.
Ephixa's head bobbed slightly at her own words, and she shifted her own weight as well. Muscles rippled under her painted hide, relaxing as she let her muzzle wander to the ground to pluck a few grasses from the soft dirt. Pulling her head up as he spoke to her once again, Ephixa chewed slowly as she thought of how long she had been on this island. As she swallowed, she let a smile tug at the corner of her mouth, and she swatted her tail against her rump.
Somethin' like a month, or so. I dunno. Haven't been keepin' track, honestly, the mare shrugged, almost as if she didn't care for this idle chit chat. A sly smile came across the mare's lips, and she reached forward, nipping playfully at the stallion's shoulder as her muscles moved her body away from him, toward the shadowy trees nearby.

His eyes, molten silver, looked thoughtfully at her face, her frame, analysing the slightest details of her body language. Her ear twitched, then she snorted, and she seemed to have trouble maintaining eye contact with him as she looked away to watch the sun creep behind an ominous grey cloud, making his mahogany coat a few shades darker, his glittering silver orbs now a dull metallic grey. Strangely, she wasn't frightened, just slightly uncomfortable, or perhaps a little apprehensive: the brute didn't blame her, he was strange in both presence and looks, with a dark coat and oddly dark yet brilliant silver eyes, and the occasional scar dotted over his large frame.
Ears sprang forward as she spoke, and he looked away slightly as he realised he had been staring quite rudely, as if she was an exhibit in a zoo. Replying softly, his voice deep and brooding, "Ah yes, but aren't some of the most interesting equines also the most psychotic ones?" A slight smile tucked the corner of his kissers up as he continued, "I'm not going to even bother denying it, yes, I have done many a dark deed in my past, but I'm not going to bother your pretty little head with that. The past is the past, what matters is how I act in the present, and as it goes, I haven't proven any threat to you so far, have I?"
His grin vanished, leaving his face eerily blank and emotionless as he thought of his past. His filly, the mare he had once loved. What had happened to them? He didn't even know if they still existed, and guessed she would have found another love. Probably that stallion he once met. Anyhow, whoever she was with, he hoped she was happy and safe. A voice echoed through his head, "Good god Obby pull yourself together, you're a dark, malicious, stallion. Nothing could ever change that." Yet as the words rang through, he knew they weren't true; he no longer craved the metallic taste of iron in blood, or breaking so many innocent mares. Sure, there were occasions where his switch would flick and he would go into destruct mode, or if his anger took over he literally saw red and anything could happen. He had simply learnt how to control himself now... Well, at least slightly.
A slight sting of pain on his shoulder lulled him back to the present, and he looked up in surprise and saw the mare moving elegantly away from him, and smoothly and swiftly bounded into fluid canter, overtaking her with ease and flicking his hind legs up playfully, before lowering his noble head and snorting loudly. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,392,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [bg=#E7E9C3]A threat, I would say ya haven't. A means for me ta be social, e'en when I hardly know ya, I would say so. Her words danced among the breeze that seemed to come from no where, as the two equines headed in the direction of the trees. Hooves moved the painted mare elegantly, almost as if she were dancing, around the tree that she could've collided with. Weaving among the trunks, the multi-hued mare glanced over her shoulder to Oscurita, gentle eyes holding her playful nature. Flicking her darkened tail, the mare managed to shake her shadow, disappearing into the thick brush, her hooves slowing her frame down.
Ears tilted forward on top of her head, nostrils quivering, eyes blinking as she took in her surroundings. Exphia's hooves stopped her here, in this thick foliage, the branches weaving down and above, almost like a little roof sheltering something from the sunlight above. Turning her head once again, delicate ears listened for the hooves of the stallion, wondering if she had really maanged to give him the slip. She didn't mean it, she was just playing, after all. Breathing out slowly, the mare pawed at the mossy ground, moving into the small enclosed clearing she was in now.
As the minutes ticked on by, Ephixa wondered about Oscurita's past, and what the dark stallion had done. Nosey, she was, but she didn't want to just pry into one's personal history. What if it was a sensitive subject? Flaring her nostrils, Ephixa shook her head slightly, once again looking to the entrance of the clearing to see if Oscurita would appear.
