Silence. It seemed like it was virtually impossible to get. Even in the calm hours of the night, the beach had a dull hum as the waves rumbled on the soft white sand. A soft, salty breeze stirred the young mare's mane as her eyes looked out across the empty ocean. She found herself a bit at peace here, despite all that had happened recently, and that this was near the site of Tigeress' death. She no longer referred to her as mother anymore - she had Phantom, and she was all who mattered. But even now she didn't think she could talk to her. She was so far along in her pregnancy, Mink thought it best to just leave her be for a while before she gives birth. It made her painfully angry that the unborn child had to be put first in front of her, when she needed Phantom the most. She was spooked with what had happened with her friend Annabelle and Orpheus, and even though she didn't find herself to be anyone of sexual attraction, she ventured off for her own safety in mind.
Even though she had barely given Inferno a chance, she didn't think she would stay. She would never be a mare that could bind herself to a herd for more than a little while. Orpheus may be angry that she left, or he may be happy that she was gone. Either way, she didn't care. Her eyes traveled from the ocean to the pattern of stars above, nostrils flaring as she studied the glittering lights. She blinked, before lowering her head once more and began walking solemnly along the moonlight bathed beach.

It had been a few weeks since Phantom had foaled that atrocity. Her stomach was slowly returning to it's normal sleek appearance. Within a few more weeks there would not be any more traces of her pregnancy or the colt. He had been a little buckskin, much like his father. Phantom had quickly given him a name; Tristan. It seemed to suit him. After she had named him and got on her own feet she left him with her friend Annabelle and her new child. Tristan would be raised like a sibling to Annabelle's foal and he would never know of his real parents. Hell, the poor colt had only been with his mother for a mere hour before she left to go her own way. Tristan would grow up calling Annabelle mother without a second thought. It was better that way, for Phantom and for Tristan.
The ivory mare had been wandering the past few days. She kept telling herself she had no purpose to be wandering like this, but she was really looking for Mink, her adoptive daughter, the only horse beside Char who had her heart in some way. It was only big enough for those two and not even her own child. It was quit a sad thing to any observer, but Phantom did not see anything wrong with it.
The sun had long gone and the stars and moon had come out to illuminate the darkness. Phantom followed the bright light of the moon to the beach, hoping to find something there. She did not know what that something was, but something inside her told her it would be there. Once she set foot on the beach she saw the form of an equine up ahead.
Phantom's natural instincts told her to be ready, to stay alert. She cautiously walked forward as the equine approached her, seemingly in it's own little world. It did not take long for the other equine's scent to reach Phantom's flaring nostrils. Mink. A smile crept up onto her face for the first time in a long time. "Mink!" Phantom called out as she raised her head, jogging up to meet the mare.

In all honesty, Mink didn't really miss her birthmother. She only had looked upon her as if she was something that made her ashamed. She never fully explained it all to her, but she quickly learned the idea when Tigeress told her that she was the result of a terrible rape. It still upset her that her mother would still look upon her that why when she tried to get her to understand it was hers, or Mink's, fault that it had happened. That she should stop putting her anger out on Mink, and just learn to take what had happened to her in stride and move on. But obviously that wasn't going to be the case. Mink had never lived out a full childhood because of her, and now her life was always laced with seriousness that she even had trouble overcoming now. Mink would have continued around the whole island, immersed in her own thoughts, unless a familiar voice commanded her attention. She looked up, and immediately her face lit up with a smile as she spotted Phantom heading toward her. "Phantom!" she greeted, running up to meet her with a grin.

The ivory mare was more than happy to see Mink. From what she could tell Mink was doing okay, but why was she out here all alone at night? Phantom had not seen the mare for a few weeks so there had to be something new going on with her. Phantom was just glad to havea familiar face to talk to for once.
"So Mink, how've you been lately? Its been some time since we last talked to each other." Phantom asked. "There must be something new and exciting going on with you, yes?" It would be nice to hear about someone else's life for a while. Pahntom had too much excitement in hers over the past couple weeks. She couldn't wait until things returned to how they used to be. At least her mind was finally off that damned foal. She was so grateful that her friend Annabelle had agreed to take in little Tristan. No matter how much she didn't want the little colt, she did not want to see any harm come to him. With Annabelle having her own foal, it was perfect timing. The two could grow as siblings and Phantom would never have to worry about Tristan again. The only horses she had to worry about now were Mink, Char, and her warriors. It was better that way, easier.
