Aithne walked silently behind Aiden, her golden eyes never straying from the bay stallion as he lead her back to Fuoco. It was only a matter of time, really - she would have been found out soon enough, whether by her own accord or someone weaseling about and relaying the information. She couldn't help but let a corner of her maw curl up into a humorless smile. She couldn't wait to see the look on Nina's face when she was proven right all along. Of course it would be a stupid smug expression, but Aithne felt no anger at the thought of her emotions. If it were Aithne herself in Nina's place, hell, she would burst out laughing and wouldn't let Aiden live the day down that he didn't listen to her. Only when they entered the charred territory and the smell of ash filled her lungs, did Aithne feel a bit of something. Remorse? Fear? No, neither of those. It was more of pity. Pity the Fire lord to be decieved, and get a big slap on his face to realize one of his most trusted members had plotted against him. Though she suspected he had taken a disliking for her for some time now, heaven knows why, she still knew that she was in the clear. As the gray mare's eyes turned up to watch the eagle as it swooped away, Aithne let out a small tsking noise. "What a shame, dear Aiden..." her voice drifted, as her eyes returned to the bay stallion again. "That you can't even trust your most senior members? I feel sorry for you, I really do. And I do feel a bit of remorse to leave you like this. Its only a matter of time before the others eventually turn on you as well..." Aithne blew a gentle breath though her nostrils, huffing softly as they paused at the base of the volcano, thin plumes of smoke trailing out of its top. Her forelock brushed along her face as a cold breeze rushed through, causing the small mare to give a small shiver. "And what about your daughter, Firefly? You've been very unkind to her and poor Romance. You drove her mother to suicide, how do you think she is going to repay you, darling?" As the mare suspected, the sky was alive with pheonixes and eagles, rushing to spread the news and gather the Zuden for concil for her trial. She all too easily accepted that it wasn't going to be a fair one, and one thing was for sure; she probably wouldn't make it out of this alive. Maybe her last efforts to foil the Zuden's system was to corrupt Aiden's mind. She couldn't really imagine how it could possibly work, but it was worth a shot. After a few minutes of silence and waiting, the gray mare turned back to the Fire Lord, her head cocking to the side as she gazed at him evenly. "Since you're bound to kill me, love, why don't you tell me what you're planning to do with yourself? After this war is over, I mean. Settle down with Malice and have a couple more little spawn? You know, you never struck me as the fatherly type..Huh, well I suspose the evidence is with Firefly, isn't it? ...Well enough with my ramblings, tell me, dear. What does it matter?, I'm a dead mare anyway.." Aithne paused, her eyes lingering on his before she slowly pulled them away, and they shifted to the skies, before she lowered them once more, her ears pricking forward as the first scents of arriving Zuden reached her nostrils.

Keezheekoni tangibly discerned tension arching higher toward the heavens, shimmering promise of air heat radiated off the very bodies beside her driving sparks across her crimson iris as the silhouettes appeared from the horizon. The mare knew the depth in which this offense had been committed, and she would be more than happy to help enact the fury of the Fire Lord. Nostrils flared, but the fea kept her emotions under tight rein as the facade of calmness radiated off her fine features and into the surrounding air. The scent of sulfur and ash was in the air, as normal, but their was an aura, a presence, that sparked something deep within her, dancing just under the reaches of her silken pelting.
She waited with an arcane sense of patience that usually skipped over the mare. The shifting mass of bodies around her was enough for calmness, though apprehension, as the shadows grew closed. The mare would wait, as is custom, and trying to extend the reach of her rein to her companions, fellow Zuden, who she knew also where feeling the unease that radiated through the rankings. It was almost as if she had something to prove, but not in truth. She stood tall, quite proud and marked, observing with serene calm.
Yet her eyes flickered with flame at the hinting of events to come. It was a silent thing, not even whispered among them, but known. They knew that was coming, for the traitor was here. Killjoy knew better than some that this was going to be quite the event. A shiver ran across her spine, tremor across pelting, but was serpressed. Now was the time was silence and waiting. A wait that would bend forth something worth waiting for, no doubt.

Aiden kept his head high and proud as he walked closely behind Aithne. Traitor. A regular Benedict Arnold she was. There had always been something about her that Aiden felt was off. Now here she was going right under his nose. Luckily her efforts had been in vain. Aiden had quickly found out after he formed an alliance with the eagles about what the mare had been doing. He quickly snuffed that flame before it could grow into something much larger.
Aiden sneered at Aithne's words. "Shut up nag." he reminded her as he caused a flame to lick her pelt, hopefully causing brief pain. He was not afraid to kill and torture, even his own kind. Yes, they were valuable, but horses like Aithne needed to be disposed of. "The others aren't even remotely like you. I always had a feeling abotu you, something that struck me as off, something I did not like. But I was too stupid and preoccupied to think about doing anything about it." he said, mostly for the other herd members to hear. "I apologise for that. Then you disappeared for a while and I figured you dead and gone. That was just peachy. Then you had to come back and try to fit back in. When you are away from your kind for so long, you don't act like you used to."
Her punishment had been something he thought of for a while. He finally decided to let the herd decide. She was going to be publicly humiliated on this walk of shame. Aiden had planned to torture her a bit, and let the other herd members practice their skills on her. He was certainly powerful enough to keep her in check. A brief thought passed his mind to force breed her, keeping the foal to train as a killer. He then realised that she might just have bad genes, and how she acted would be passed down. That was obviously not an option any more. He did not want to risk it.
Aithne then brought up Firefly and her mother. "I do not regret anything done to her mother." he noted. "I have changed my ways with Firefly Aithne." he whispered to her. "I will admit I did not give her the attention she deserved, but it was mostly out of hate for her mother. I hope he forgives me, because I have truly come to love her. I did not know it was possible to feel such a thing, but I do. I would place my own life on the line for her." he said loudly, looking right at his daughter as he spoke, making a public apology to her. It was now the time to step up and do what had to be done.
The Fire Lord let out a bitter laugh at her words. "What am I going to do? Well mare, I am not going to tell you. Don't try and twist it around telling me that I do not even have a plan because I do. I know you should be killed, and you will be, with the help of this herd. You aren't even important enough to know my plans. Other horses in this herd do." he responded. "As for Malice, she is my friend. I plan on having no other children. I do not feel that way for her, nor do I think I ever will." he finally let out the bitter truth. "She is only Lady of the land because I admire the way her mind works, akin to my own." he mentioned. "I plan on training Firefly to be one of the most respected and feared horses on this island." he noted. He truly did like his daughter now and only wanted the best for her.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][bg=000000] I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins, spotlight on me and I’m ready to break.
The tension in the air could be felt throughout the Zunden lands, growing in the air and bubbling in some of the pools of water close to the volcanoes. The phoenixes and eagles soared in the air all around, randomly swooping in some areas and giving the horses messages. Nina’s crimson eyes followed the movements of the birds, watching them as they danced along the skies. It wasn’t long before one of them noticed her, swooping down to the red roan and letting her know of the traitor. At first, a look of shock washed over the mare’s face, but then it was replaced with nothing more than a simple smirk. She’d told him, that bastard – he’d honestly taken this long to confirm the newcomer’s accusations? Sure, she’d been new and she had a Reaper as a best friend, but the mare had a heart full of fire and a keen eye for traitors. Once the elegant bird had taken off, so did the mare, flames engulfing her legs up the point of her knees. The meeting was taking place not far from where she’d previously stood, so she quickly closed the distance, the flames dying down moderately until she finally reached them. She slid through the approaching horses easily, finding a spot close to the front. She wanted to see this – but more importantly, she wanted to see the look on Aithne and Aiden’s faces if they locked eyes with her. Was she spiteful? Yes – but it wasn’t as if you should expect any better from the breed, and definitely not any better from the mare. She had no heart of gold that was waiting to come out, no kindness worthy of reverence – at least, not to outsiders, or traitors. If Shadow was here, she might have tried to save Aithne. However, the painted Reaper was nowhere to be seen. She’d only come to relay information to Aiden once or twice before her powers had shone through and she’d deserted him. Turning her head to look at the horses that were around her, she gave a subtle nod to them as greeting. Her eyes promptly shifted their fiery gaze to the fire lord, her crimson locks swaying softly as she mouthed to him four simple, little words. I told you so. Her ears then perked as the two horses conversed, her attention being caught by a few key phrases. She would be killed – but the herd would be the ones to inflict the punishment. Whether it was because of revenge or a true darkness in the coal the horse had for a heart, the thoughts sent warm, fuzzy feelings rolling through her flesh. Tonight would be fun, if the show could go uninterrupted by those with better morals.

{ And I've learned to live, Half alive. } Firefly | [/blockquote] The young one snickered, a maniac, eerie sound, her fluorescent red eyes watching closely.
Firefly, Aiden's one and only daughter, stood with that twisted smile on her mug. "Thank you, Daddy." Firefly purred to her sire, her banner swaying with approval. The mare rose up her small cranium, shaking her short mane wildly.
Her firey eyes never left Aithne, a twisted sneer slithering among her lips. "Well Aithne, how's it feel? Your biggest secret, the one you've worked so hard to keep?" Firefly snickered, her eyes flaming. "Oh Aithne, dear, do you remember that day? The day my mother, so cowardly, gave up her life? You tried to comfort me?"Firefly rolled her eyes, her nostrils fluttering in a snort of disgust, showing the traitor how pathetic Firefly knew she was.
After a hard gaze, her bright eyes narrowed as her nostrils flared. "You don't deserve to be a Zunden. You never did." The mare shrugged, her gaze harsh. Not like it would effect Aithne, since she was already bitching to Aiden. The traitor had worked up quite some corage to be able to speak to Aiden like that.
But whatever, Firefly muttered in her thoughts.

She had sent away her personal phoenix whom brought her the message of Aiden bringing Aithne before the herd for trial. A sinister smirk crossed the demented mare's maw, and as the ashen colored Zunden lifted her head from the dead grasses where she scavenged for food, thoughts roamed her head. The Lady glanced up to the skies, the streaks of the phoenixes catching her attention for a brief moment. The day that Aiden had told her that he chose her to become Lady, the mare hadn't really been anticipating it. She knew that with a title as such came such a responsibility, and she was well aware that the other Zunden would be looking to her, as well as Aiden, for instruction in the upcoming war.
You going, Miss Malice, came the deep voice of her phoenix, as it rested upon her back. The mare nodded gently, her eyes closing for a brief moment. The phoenix nodded back, lifting off of her back gracefully, and flying ahead of the trotting mare. Crimson eyes focused ahead, watching the shape of the other herd members come into view. Malice stopped her movements a few yards away, turning to circle the other mares, stopping right near Firefly and nipping at her hide in greeting before moving to stand next to Nina. Crimson eyes, now ablaze with an angry fire, stared straight at Aithne, the Lady's blood boiling at the sight of such a traitor.
What exactly Aiden had in mind for this little bitch, Malice didn't exactly know, but she hoped she could throw some of her own weight around. Especially against this mare. Nostrils quivered faintly, her tail flicking across her hide. Small flames sparked along her body, dying almost instantly due to the chilly air. Despite it being hotter in Fuoco than the rest of the island, it still got chilly, and Malice found ways to keep herself warm.
Above, Malice's phoenix called out, brilliant red wings leaving trails of fire in the sky before it disappeared. It circled a few times, then lowered itself upon the Lady's back, it's body crackling faintly as it settled itself down into the small of the mare's back. Ears flicked back slightly, listening to the bird, but the crimson eyes of Malice swept across the other horses, then went to Aiden and Aithne, ready for this to begin already. The black eyes of the phoenix stayed upon Aiden, it's feathers tucked closely against it's burning body.

Aithne's muzzle wrinkled briefly in pain as Aiden sent a small amount of flame across her pelt, a indignant snort coming from her in response. She had entirely expected this sort of treatment, so she couldn't even be angry as her skin smarted slightly after the flame disapeared, but it sooned stopped. Though Aiden was what you would call a "wise" leader, he still wasn't quite smart enough to realize that his flames didnt effect her for too long. The most she could gain in harm from another Zuden's flame was a minor burn, no matter their amount of fury. Though now they would refuse to acknowlege it, she was a Zuden, and they were the essence of fire. Why would their own element harm them? Aithne couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the stallion's cockiness over the situation. Though he claimed to "suspect" her, if he really did he would have pulled the plug on her long ago.
The gray mare listened quietly to Aiden as he spoke about Romance and Firefly. Aithne had always felt sorry for the mare, though her up-tight Zuden attitude had permitted her from even considering to reach out to poor Romance. Her time with the normals had really brought out the best in her, and so Aiden's words were in truth. She had changed, but that was all that made her different from her and the Zuden. They were all the same, only highlighted for individuality by their markings. But if everything were based on personality, no one would be able to tell one from the other. All evil, kiniving beasts that only lusted for power and salvation for their rank on the island. It seemed they showed no compassion, and Aithne couldn't help but raise her eyebrows in surprise as Aiden admitted that he even loved his daughter, and apologised to her. Oh heavens, where had she been so long?
She could see the pure malistic hatred on each of the equine's faces as they arrived onto the scene, but Aithne stood, completely unfazed by them. She spotted a crimson mare she hadn't even seen before, but the same look was plastered upon her face; no matter. She couldn't help but feel a perk of excitement as Nina arrived, and her golden eyes watched her intently, until she spit the words out at Aiden. She supressed a laugh, scarfing it back down her throat with a few choking noises, but let a small grin appear on her face for the sake of it. She was almost giddy on the feeling. She really had to give credit to Nina, though the bitch had tried to blow her cover. She was smart, and Fuoco would really need to use her for the times ahead. It almost saddened Aithne, to not see what it would be like in a few years time when this war was over. Would the normals prevail against this dark threat? Their numbers had dwindled dangerously low now, so Aithne perhaps saw a chance for the normals to survive. But only time could tell.
Aithne let out a soft sigh, shaking her head lightly at Aiden, her gaze flickering back to him. "There's a fine line between respect and fear, Aiden. You of all, I expected to see it. But I suppose its just all hazy lines and smoke for you all," she said, her voice drifting as her head turned to look forward as Firefly joined the group. Aithne only blinked at the filly, her head cocking to the side and expression calm. "Frankly, sweetie, I wasn't hiding it as well as I could. One of you could have easily followed me around, but as they say, ignorance is bliss? I suppose over time, my arrogance grew and I thought myself untouchable. I was wrong, of course, and look where I ended up. Your father found me, so I found it fit to tell him that I had been prancing around his back being a snitch. " The gray mare let out a soft sigh, nodding her head at the filly. She was definantly her father's daughter - the hatred for Romance had bred. "I do.. But as I remember, you were pretty upset. That was before I was doing very much dirty work, and I thought that maybe unifying the herd would bring you higher chances for success. I failed, I suppose." Aithne shook her head slowly, if not a bit sadly. "Once you think about it, everyone drove me to do this, but none of you will choose to take the blame. Pity," she said, her voice raised slightly so the other herd members would hear her more clearly.
Her attention was drawn once again back to Firefly as she spoke, and Aithne simply nodded her head in agreement. "I believe so too..such a disgrace, aren't I?" Heaved a big sigh, right on the borderline between sarcasm and honesty, but it was even confusing to Aithne to figure out. Did she really think that of herself? Maybe, if shards of her old Zuden mind still remained, though she knew it was there, though supressed back deep into her mind. At last, Malice arrived, with a pheonix close in toe. Aithne raised her head to watch it for a minute as it circled above, feeling an eerie calm over her as it landed down on the Lady's back. She met eyes with her briefly, before she turned her head towards Aiden once more. "I don't really even think asking them will do much. You know, and I know, that blood is what they want. So why not give it to them?" She snorted at herself, her words still directed towards Aiden but her head turning toward the crowd. "One last thing...tell me, what happened to the others? There was atleast 20, but now, only four, not including me of course.. I wonder what happened." Aithne blinked, and then her eyes were on Aiden's again, and a smirk was beginning to curl at her maw. Of course, she wasn't responsible for the disapearances of the other Zuden - but she was a dead horse, and they needn't know that.

LA FIAMMA DI INFERNO. There was something in the air, an uncertainty, a hostility. Fire. Smoke. As always. Yet today, somehow, there seemed to be more of it, thick in the ether, almost smothering. It was almost as if there was a knife balanced on it's tip, spinning, waiting to drop, sharp edge glittering savagely.
A sleek, ruby red bodice was stood, as if frozen somewhere desolate in Terra di Fuoco, fathomless waves of heat rolling away from the frame; the temperature alone would have been enough to disintegrate a regular horse - but she wasn't a regular horse. Inferno. Onyx eyes, as blank and expressionless and cold as coal, yet as striking as jet jewels, glared solemnly forwards. The fae was listening, radars pricked - the familiar beating of wings was gradually drawing closer and closer, a streak of fire colours - orange, red, yellow - fluttered down from the dark sky and landed gracefully on the fiery mare's back, the phoenix folding it's streaked wings before muttering gently to the vixen, "There's a herd meeting Miss Inferno, the traitor has been brought to trial - you may wish to make your way there before you miss out on the torture." A throaty cackle slipped from the bird's beak, it's malevolent eyes glinting. Inferno liked this specific phoenix, although it was the only one that dared to approach her now - the rest were unsettled by her satanic stare. Nevertheless, she shook her petite frame in a signal that the bird should leave, turning tail and smoothly gliding into a elegant canter, coal daggers barely audible.
The smallest of smiles corrupted the vixen's velveteen maw, before being erased permanently. She reached the crowd swiftly, sliding silently to a stop and watched, eager eyes dim. Let the fun begin.

Maroon optics danced as Aiden took in the faces off all of his followers. They were all glaring at the traitor, sending her looks that could have killed. They had all been hoodwinked by this little vixen. Had they felt that there was something off about her from the beginning just as Aiden had felt, or were they totally oblivious to everything? Or, did they choose to ignore the odd vibes that radiated off of the strange little fae? Aiden would never know since he wasn't about to go and ask all of the Zunden about their feelings of all things. The only one who had ever suspected anything about the grey mare was Nina. Damn himself, why had he not listened to the mare? He should have known better than to dismiss what those under his command had to say about important matters. Next time he would listen, but he would make damn well sure that there never was a next time.
As his daughter spoke, Aiden showed nothing on his face. Inside, he was feeling an emotion that was somewhere between relief and glad that his daughter now had warmed up to him. He had been a bit worried before that she would follow Aithne's ways. With a lot of hard work he had created a rather malicious bond with her. He showed no malice toward her, but when they were together they often sought to inflict paint upon others who, in their eyes, deserved it.
He kept his mouth shut and stood back a bit as his only daughter let her words ring out, showing how she thought and perceived this whole situation. Aiden had already figured out in his head that he was going to let her help him punish Aithen. The whole herd was going to help, but he would let his daughter have first dibs on inflicting her torture. Perhaps he would even let the young filly direct the others.
Respect and fear. Who was she talk? Did the idiot not know they were the same? When one was feared, the were respected. When one was respected, they were also feared. The two went together, hand in had, just like peas and carrots. This petty creature knew nothing of the world, she was so clueless and naive. It almost made Aiden laugh, all these words coming out of her mouth. Some had truth to them, but others were only produced by an ignorant mind. Her words meant nothing. Yes, she was just talking to try to get to him. He was sorry to tell her, but she was far from getting to him.
What did get to him is what she had done. How could she betray her own breed? Her own flesh and blood? The other Zunden understood her powers, why she was so much better than the rest. She chose to go against that and hang out with the riff raff of the island. The one thing she had one-hundred percent right was that she was, indeed, a disgrace to them all. She made the Zunden look like pathetic creatures who were easily manipulated.
Aiden cleared his throat and glanced at all his herd members. He would ask them what they thought should happen to this trouble maker. "My fellow Zunden, I assume you all know why we are gathered here today." he explained. "A traitor such as this little bitch deserves to be punished, to be shown what she has done to her own kind. We understood her, took her in, welcomed her with open arms, and even, at one point trusted her. You have been betrayed just as much as everyone else, so now I give the option to decide this rat's punishment." he finished, looking expectantly to his herd, hoping they would offer some input.

speech ! thoughts !
The phoenix upon Malice's back rustled his wings slightly, and the mare snorted at him. Crimson eyes stayed trained upon Aithne and Aiden, and ears tilted forward ever so slightly as the Lead spoke. Her own thoughts were not upon what would happen to the mare, they were on how they would go about hurting a Zunden. Of course, fire wouldn't inflict much harm upon her, because of the Zunden's natural immunity to it. Nostrils quivered ever so slightly, as Aiden gave the herd the option of Aithne's punishment. Crimson eyes switched away from the traitor and her mate, to the others of the herd. When no one spoke, she stepped forward, tail slapping behind her, the phoenix erupting into the air with a flurry of fire. |
Well, we all know, that we can not harm a Zunden with fire. Yes, a little pain would be inflicted, but no serious harm would be done, the Lady began to do circles around Aithne, crimson eyes looking over the mare, because of this, we should find someone else, one of our other Elemental allies, to inflict pain upon her. To torture her beyond comprehension. Of course, under our watchful eye, so she doesn't slip away. The Lady stopped in front of Aithne, crimson eyes dancing with fire, and ears flicked forward. She didn't speak anymore, not even when her right-hand man decided to appear at the meeting.
Ciar stood nearby, not exactly with the group, his eyes watching what was going on. Of course, every Zunden knew about Aithne's betrayal, so he didn't need to be caught up to speed with anything. The stallion's brown eyes drifted around the gathering, then rested upon the Lord and Lady, ears forward.
