Somnium
Rhythmic drops of rain trickled out of the several clouds that hung in the air over the meadow, covering everything in a fine mist. Low, grumbling rolls of thunder could be heard in the distance as the storm moved east, taking the bulk of the rain with it. Somnium, by herself as usual, walked slowly across the sodden ground; her gait curiously smooth for being on such uneven turf. The landscape around her looked much like an old black-and-white photograph, and was rather gloomy overall. It matches my mood, I suppose. Somnus thought, taking a moment to give a furtive glance to the dull sky above.
As the wind from the edge of the storm began to pick up, stirring her dark, feathery mane, Somnus suddenly felt invigorated. The cold bite on her hide was pleasing somehow, and, tossing her head, she took off with the gales and began to gallop. Her drumming hooves beat upon the ground, almost harmonizing with the thunder and rain. Several black forms seemed to melt out of the sky as they fell in stride with the mare, matching her whinnies with their caws. The strong breeze pushed her faster and faster; she could feel her muscles rippling in effort as her legs worked hard to keep up with it. It felt amazing to be running with the wind, and for a moment, she almost felt as high as the soaring birds that raced alongside her.
It is rather unfortunate that cheerful things tend to be short-lived for this mare.
Just minutes passed before Somnus came to an abrupt halt, slipping slightly on the moist earth beneath her hooves. The wind had stopped, along with the rain, and it wasn’t long before her previous dismal mindset has returned. Stupid mare, running like that; you could’ve injured yourself. You know better. An irritated snort escaped her, and while she thought it was because of her ignorant folly, somewhere deep down Somnus knew it was because she didn’t really know how to have fun.

Cane
A thunderstorm off in the distance, thunder booming in Canes ears. To her this was a way to calm down, and to let the worries off the world melt off of her soulders. When she heard the thunder, she could feel some weight being lifted off of her small white back. Lifting her head up, her blue eyes closed, and smilling, Cane let a sigh out. This weather was her favorite kind of weather. Very tempermental, and beautiful at the same time. Thunderstorms remind her that even the sky gets mad, and that it is ok to get mad. Even if it is at the most stupid things.
Lowering her head, and opening her big blue eyes, droping that smile, she took off. Throwing her head up, and tossing her mane as wind ran trough her long hair. You would think that her element is wind, but you would be wrong. Cane loves this weather because of the rain. To her where ever rain or water is, is her home, is where she belongs. As the wind, and the scent of rain filled her nosterals and ran along her body, Cane just had to laugh. But that laughter soon stoped. A new scent flooded into her nose, and scent she did not know.
Eyes squinted, Cane looked off in the distance. As she peered out, she saw a fourm heading her way. Snorting, Cane stoped running, and went into a walk. She did not know this horse, and did not want to find out who he or she was. Cane hadnt had the best luck in making new friends latley, and not knowing if this horse was a dark or light terrified her. But there was nothing she could do. Something in her stomach told her to stay, but another part of her told her to hit the gravle and take off. 'Well I guess I'll meet another horse.' She snorted as she walked to the strange new horse.

Somnium
Lonesome blue orbs gazed out across the field, searching for nothing in particular but hoping it would appear all the same. The overo vixen stood quite still for a while; closing her eyes and feeling the gentle winds ripple through her silken ebony banner. Somnus did indeed long for love, friendship, a perhaps someday a foal, but for the moment she couldn’t really complain. She supposed that seclusion could be acceptable for the time being.
Slowly, she turned her head to the wind, and drank in an unfamiliar scent that wafted in the breeze. Almost instantly the overo mare tensed; pricking her ears and glancing about her for any other sign of the stranger. Somnus was never a social animal, but as an ivory femme emerged from the grasses nearby it seemed that a meeting was inevitable.
"Tread lightly, stranger." Were Somnus’ only words, spoken shyly yet with just enough force to show that she wasn’t to be messed with. Keeping her elegant white face aloft, an expression of apprehension slowly played its way across her delicate features. Whether she showed it or not, though, curiosity was prickling as she assessed the young mare before her. The first thing she noticed about the beautiful stranger was her bright azure eyes that were sparkling in the sunlight; similar to her own but slightly lighter in their shade. Her white pelt bore the marks of past physical altercations; she thought this was strange for a mare as young as this, but as Somnus realized with a slight grimace at the thought of her own past experiences, she wasn’t in any position to be judging others.
Maybe they had more in common than she could easily perceive.

Cane
The soft damp grass below Cane brushed against her hoves. Cane smiled, but quickly put that smile away. This was no time for her to be smiling, let alone laughing. There was a strange horse before her, not even four yards away now. As Cane walked to her, she had many thoughts running through her head. 'What if this horse is not friendly? What if she tries to start a fight? I am not in the best shape for a fight, let alone for a fight with this female. She is quite bigger than me...' And these were only a few thoughts that were running through her mind. As Cane aproched this mare, she heard the strangers voice, "Tread lightly, stranger" and that was all she said.
Cane could have snorted, or given attitude, but she knew that could cause a fight. So instead she bowed her head slightly, showing that she was of no harm to this female. Lifting her small head up, Canes eyes looks at the female, taking in what she could see, her looks. This female was bigger than Cane, but then again who isnt? Her coat was a white, and brown. Whille her mane and tail were black. Cane noticed this mares eyes, they were blue, like her's, but a bit darker.
These perceptions were taken in a little less than a few seconds, while Cane gave her reply. "I-I Im n-not going to h-hurt you. I j-just wanted to c-come over and m-meet you." Ccane said, head held high. Yes she hated her studdering, and she hoped that she would grow out of it. She hated it because people did not take her seriously when she studdered. But due to when she was a filly, till now, she highly doubted she would grow out of it. Though, she did studder less around mares, than stallions. But this was just a way of life for Cane.
