Snow, snow, snow, tree, snow.
It was all Zandarkand saw while traveling through Rocas territory. Minus the occasional raven, whom he found out where loyal to the herd. He would also see an eagle, the same eagle, fly over every day, do a loop of the territory, then head off in the direction of Felwood. It caused curiosity to spark within the stallion, a sense of wonder of what this eagle was doing above the Rocas territory. He could always hear the ravens calling out in warning when this eagle appeared, and the Thoroughbred had an idea that this eagle was not welcome in the skies here.
But now, no ravens called, nothing lingered in the dark, cloudy skies above. It was so silent in the trees that the bay stallion roamed, that his hoof steps upon the fallen snow seemed to echo loudly, bouncing off the trees and into the shadows where it fleeted away quickly. The silence had driven Zandarkand into thinking, his mind whirling around the events of which led to him living among Char and the tattered remains of her parent's once noble herd.
He had landed here on the beach, after bailing the ship that carried him across the ocean, to meet a mare whom he was to never see again. This thought caused a snort to escape his nostrils, a thick veil of steam rising before him, and then dissipating into nothing. For a brief second, before his breath disappeared, his gentle eyes were transfixed upon it, gazing at it, until it vanished. He was growing bored of just walking around, hoping, praying that someone would come along to cease his ever-thinking mind and ever-moving hooves.
The crack of twigs nearby caused Zan to stop, glancing around wildly, ears swiveling to detect any movement in the barren landscape around him. But, he saw nothing, nor did he hear anything else. Had he been imagining the sound? Perhaps his mind was starting to play tricks on him, to make him believe someone was there, when in reality, no one was within miles. Shaking his head at his foolishness, the Thoroughbred continued trekking through the trees, tail flicking with each hoof placed upon the frozen ground, his gentle eyes showing how lost in his own thoughts he was. |

Char stumbled through the thick white slush that devoured her lands. Every inch of Rocas was a frozen wonderland – it made even the harsh outlands look beautiful. Despite how harsh the colder months had been to everyone upon the isle, the lady sought the silver lining. Perhaps, this beauty that such cold precipitate brought foretold of a promising future for the Rocas herd; could she call it that? There were so few left, that it was hard to figure out what her shambled group was.
She had not seen anyone in a long while now, but the ravens had informed her that Zandarkand was nearby. The mare dearly hoped to find him and soon. She missed having someone to chatter to other than the ravens; it was hard to get a word in inch wise with those feathered fowl!
It wasn’t much longer until she could spot her friend’s silhouette wandering through the snow. A sly smile perched upon her kissers as she schemed a little trickery. With her best possible stealth (which, granted, wasn’t as surreptitious as she believed) the mare slithered through the snow. Moments later, Char bounded from a deep pile with a shrill whinny. Her intent had been to spook the stallion, but rather she found herself slamming into him and falling to the ground with a loud ‘oomph!’
“I guess I overshot the landing,” she chirped between a nervous giggle as she lay in the ivory blanket of frozen slush.

What in the...?
The stallion looked at what had collided with him, and flicked his ears slightly. What had happened? Looking down, he noticed Char there, and a sly smile crossed his maw. |
Well, hello there, Char. It's nice to see you there.. on the ground, his gentle eyes sparkled as he stared at the Lead, and moved so that she could get up without bumping into him. He flicked his tail in amusement, and looked around the forest. Had anyone else seen the mare's stumble? Noticing no one, but a single raven on a nearby branch, the stallion looked back to Char. Who were you looking for in such a hurry to have ran into me and fallen? Surely you couldn't have been looking for me, the stallion chuckled lightly, and flared his nostrils. Stomping a hoof on the ground, he threw his head up, a small whinny escaping his maw. Say, Char. Would you fancy a walk with me? We haven't been able to really talk or hang out since winter's started.[/blockquote] ! new divide ((linkin park)) -- sorry it's short again, sibs. :c ! 172 words ! template/table lizzeh 2010.

Long lashes fluttered innocently over deep blue orbs as she stared up at the stallion with a rather sheepish grin. Flustered as she oft found herself when encountering other equines these days, the mare attempted to gain her composure – it was to no avail really. As she attempted to get up, the slick precipitate only caused her to stumble around. She was tempted to give in and just remain on the ground but decided getting up deserved one more valiant attempt. With a deep huff and all of her concentration the mare clumsily climbed to all fours.
The once flustered smirk turned to one of intrepid triumph! Now, all she had to do was remain perfectly still, and she wouldn’t fall again! There was no flaw in that, right? Well, naivety blinded Char from seeing such error in her thought process.
“I was looking for you,” she admitted, “but, I was trying to sneak up on you. I take it I wasn’t very crafty, eh?” Shaking her crown, the mare dismissed the thought. Her ears swiveled at his query and a dainty curve took upon her lips. “A walk, I’d like that!” However, the flaw in her thinking soon came to realization as she awkwardly stepped through the snow, resembling a fawn taking its first steps ever. Boy would it be swell when the Spring returned and with it her grace.

Just knowing that the young mare was looking for him caused his heart to swell slightly. As Char raised herself to her hooves, the stallion did a circle around her, making sure she was not hurt, then stood at her side. Ears flicked forward slightly, and he smiled. Brown eyes glittered, and he took a step forward. |
Glad to know I wasn't forgotten! Also, if you wanted to sneak up on me, I would suggest trying to sneak up from behind, much like a predator. It'd throw me off guard. And try to be a little more quieter when you walk. That gave me the clue that you were there. Flaring his nostrils slightly, he glanced back at the Lead, and his heart fluttered slightly. The way the light filtered down from the trees below, hitting the mare's coat, just caught his breath. Blinking a few times, he just couldn't tear his eyes away from her. What was going on? Shaking his head quickly, he looked toward where the raven had been sitting before. He had long since flown off, startled slightly by Char's clumsiness.
Brown eyes turned back to Char, and a meek smile crossed his muzzle. Had she noticed the look that had crossed his face, the small sparkle of admiration appearing in his eyes as he stared at her? He had been attached to her, attracted to her, since the first day they met, but he wasn't going to tell her that. She was young, and he was... well... old. She deserved someone younger than he was. He would be there to guide her, and help her through the hard times, as a friend, and let her find someone her own age to grow old with. Shall we be going? he asked, after clearing his throat and flicking his tail hesitantly behind him.[/blockquote] ! truly, madly, deeply ((cascada)) -- o; more muse plox. Deep blue eyes lit up as the older stallion offered her his stealthing advice. The mare pranced in place with excitement – her mind twirling and spinning, scheming and plotting. She eventually calmed enough to remain still, although finished with an eager nod, chirping, “I’ll spook you one day!” And, then there was a sudden seriousness, “but, maybe I should try it in the spring when I have better footing.” The moment of composure made her think she was becoming slightly more staid like her mother had always wanted. Well, she was at least trying!
Now, when it came to the emotional attachment, Char was somewhat oblivious. Her mother’s lack of intimacy in all visible aspects led the young mare to be so unaware. Sure, she noticed the sparkle in his lingering gaze, but naively believed that it was nothing more than the thrill of their conversation. Everyone else liked to play and ploy, right?
What she did recognize was her own abnormalities around the dapper brute. There was a peculiarity in the way the already bubbly mare giggled more oft in his presence and the way her heart fluttered in her chest. Notice of such reactions to his presence only spurred more fluster to overcome the already muddled young thing – she felt giddy! (Although, she hadn’t a clue how to place a name on such a feeling.)
Zandarkand’s words broke her turmoil leaving her seeming quite shocked only to offer her trademark sheepish grin. Her tongue was tied, but she tried to speak; all that came out was a mixture between a cough and what sounded like ‘hmeroomph.’ Further flustered, she supplemented the odd noise with a quick nod before flouncing forward as gracefully as she could manage in the slush.

All that Zandarkand offered the mare was a simple smile, and he waited for a brief moment before following after her. Tail swung slowly behind his body, and ears flicked ever so slightly. Char... I was wondering. What were your parents like? Were they as nice as you are? The stallion didn't know if he had struck a nerve or not, he didn't know if Char had any bad feelings toward her parents. Perhaps they were really nice horses and her brother got the short end of the stick when it came to his personality. What else was there to say with her? If he even spoke of his feelings, he'd feel kind of awkward. Nostrils flared slightly, and he breathed slowly, the steam rising through the air quickly, then dissipating. |
