The leaves had fallen from the trees now, the winter's cold chill drifting between the fingers of the trees. Clouds drifted slowly across the sky, masking out the sunlight and the opportunity to warm one's body in it's glow. A simple silhouette moved through these bare figures, ears tilted forward, even as a gush of wind slapped her in the face. The warrior of Lassan's herd moved swiftly through the snow, body trembling as the wind bit at her. Even with a thick winter's coat, the mare was frozen to the bone, eyes squinted shut, and teeth chattering slightly. And even now, as she was walking by herself through the trees, she seemed to be speaking to some unseen creature. "It's s-s-s-so... c-c-c-cold," she muttered, almost seeming as if she were out of her mind. However, if one were to look closely upon Malifex's painted back, they would see a little white rabbit sitting there, it's body in a small puff of fur. "I'm sorry, Malifex. I know you are usually not wanting to tote me around on your back, but the snow is just too deep for me to maneuver back to the cave," the rabbit spoke, her voice free of the shiver that resided in her horse companion.
"That isn-n-n't what is-s-s-s bothering m-m-me," Malifex stuttered through the cold, trudging drearily through the knee-high snow drifts. The trees and the snow, along with the bone cold wind, seemed almost endless. "How m-m-much further?" The mare's ears flicked back slightly, as her companion moved where she was curled up. The rabbit peered around the horse's neck, and flicked her ears slightly. "We are there," the rabbit bounced off of the mare's back, dashing off into the nearby cave that seemed to appear out of no where. Malifex hestitated for a moment, then followed her friend inside. The warrior stood in the cave, which was clearly tall and wide enough to fit many horses.
"Rest, Malifex. You will stay warm in here with me. The wind can't reach into this cave," the rabbit spoke as she jumped to the back of the cave, rustling together a small bed for herself. Malifex merely nodded, watching the snowflakes fall outside, and breathed out slowly. She feared for the herd, and wondered if they had made it to a place where they would be safe and warm from the winter's deadly cold. The painted mare turned to speak with her friend once more, but noticed the rabbit was fast asleep. A small smile crossed the warrior's face, and she settled herself onto the floor of the cave, closing her eyes and falling into a light sleep.

Out in the whiteness, Night looked like somewhat of an oddity. His utterly ebony pelt stood out strangely, making an easy target for cougars or wolves. The feathers on his hooves were caked with frozen snow, and the brittle cold snaked up his pillars all the way to his barrel. How he disliked the snow! Normally optimistic, winter weather dampened his spirits immensely. Trudging on through the wind, the Friesian huffed and puffed precariously on edge of falling over and falling asleep. How he wished he could do that...
His thoughts strayed over to Malifex. Lovely, beautiful Malifex. Strong, sweet Malifex. He backtracked to the time he told her how he felt about the her, and how she reacted. Mentally cringing, he moved on to the last conversation they had, and the peace he felt when he was with her. She always nagged at the corner of his mind, urging him to pursue her. It was times like those he wished Lassan's terra were a smidgen smaller, and easier to navigate in these months. A scent pushed through the wind, muted by a distance of some sort. The obsidian stags crown popped up, ears fighting winds resistance. Speak of the devil; he had been thinking of her and all of a sudden here she was! Or maybe it was sheer chance, one lucky time for all the other moments he'd thought of her. Bypassing his own analyzing mental conversation, he sniffed again and again, hunting the mare down. Minutes later he came upon a cave covered in snow, and entered with a feeling of anxiousness and excitement. It took a second for his orbs to adjust to the darkness but somewhere in the expanse he could see her light muzzle. Nickering delightedly, the brute walked over.

She hadn't gotten used to the cold, at least not yet. Trembling, Malifex shifted uncomfortably upon the floor fo the cave, her ears tilted back against her skull. The mare's companion noticed how her friend was feeling, and hoped over to her. "Malifex... you don't have to be on the ground," the rabbit spoke gently, but the mare ignored the small mammal. The warrior shifted again, and her eyes shot open.
"Night, she whispered, and sure enough, the black stallion had entered the cave. Clambering to her hooves, the paint let out a low wuffle, glad to see that the stallion was alive. "My dear Night. Where had you gone to? I was worried the weather had claimed your life," the paint walked forward and ran her scarred muzzle along his cheek. The touch sent a shiver down the mare's spine, as she hadn't touched him in quite a long time, and she had truly missed it.
