The stallion had not said a word for hours. He knew Annabelle was following him and that was enough for now. His main concern was getting them as far from his father’s lands as he possibly could. But, there were other concerns. For one, the Zunden and the Arrats were both making attacks. Yamanu had heard of another dark land losing their goddess to an Arrat and a neutral one losing many to a Zunden raid. There were many more attacks than he even knew about; he had made every possible attempt to ignore the wind’s gossip. He had begun to hate the element inherited of both parents.
As he trekked carefully through Terra Scure, the stallion’s steps became slower, more cautious and deliberate. These were dark lands – the best and worst place to hide. There were so many nooks and crannies to take refuge, yet the worst scum of the island hung here. Stopping in front of a large oak, Yamanu finally looked back at his companion.
“We should rest for the night. I need to figure out where exactly we need to go from here,” he admitted. His muzzle gestured towards the oak. “Rest, I will watch over you.” He paused, knowing his companion would likely argue; he had to admit she had become somewhat stubborn with her age. “We can take turns resting tonight,” he offered, hoping she would take his proffer.

{ Your subtleties, They strangle me. I can't explain myself at all. } Annabelle | The small mare trotted behind the stallion in the snow for quite sometime, and had fallen back a small ways so she wouldn't be so close to him.
Baby blue eyes looked up to see him stop ahead under a large tree, her dark tail flicking the snow uneasily. She stopped a couple feet away from him and shook her multi-colored pelt to rid the snow that had collected upon her back.
Annabelle turned her attention to him as she heard him speak. She nodded in agreement, her mug in a straight line. At the moment, she wasn't a happy camper.
The young mare shook her mane roughly, trying to get the wet snow that was clumping off. He caught her attention again as he spoke again. A brown ear drew forward with curiosity, but it drew back quickly. Annabelle nodded to him, a curt thank you before pawing at the snow.
The Nyfrio mutt hissed at the snow, her ears drawing back in anger. It was so.. So cold. Annabelle snorted and finally dropped to lay in the white. Tucking her legs underneath her, she curled her crania around to her side, huddling in herself for warmth.
A soft blue eye flicked open for a moment, watching the stallion as Annabelle tried to capture a memory of this. All the things she had been through, all the pain, melted away for a mere moment as she watched this stud. The mix snorted before curling up tighter in herself and trying to sleep.

His mind raced as he awaited her response. Where would they go? He had thought long and hard about his choice. He had relatives throughout the island, being a part of the second largest family on Isola Dei Dei. There was his father, and well, that obviously was not an option. Then, of course, Hannibal – that idea was just as despicable. Well, what about the Eras? He contemplated this for a long time. Would they offer him refuge? He was the son of Orpheus, which was no good news. And, Annabelle was not of the Era blood. Not to mention, the wind and Yamanu were quite cross with each other – he certainly had not made any attempt to master the element. He would not be a good elemental asset, really. But, they seemed to be his best bet.
Yamanu snorted. Who said he had to go to family? Maybe they should go to a normal herd? Or the Nyfrio? Annabelle was part of their blood. But, would they take him? He continued to maul through those thoughts, barely noting that she had already lain down. It was not until he heard the mare snort that he broke away from such worries.
What was her problem? The stallion did not long for attention like her. He was content just being – maybe content was not the proper word. Hell, he hardly knew what to call his existence or how to properly refer to his beliefs, ways or thoughts. That hardly mattered right now. Something was obviously upsetting Annabelle, and the stag cared for her well being as much as was capable from him.
The stallion quietly approached the mare. He noted how tightly her body was coiled. She was cold. Was that it? It had to be, right? Shrugging his shoulders slightly, the stag lowered his body down beside the mare. He allowed his figure to rest close to hers – his warmth radiating against hers. He thought nothing of the proximity really. He could recall sheltering her and Haize in such a manner when they were young. He didn’t really realize how intimate the gesture probably came across.
Silent as ever except for their bated breaths, Yamanu was as vigilant as before. He had no plans of breaking his word. He would watch over the mare as she rested.

{ Your subtleties, They strangle me. I can't explain myself at all. And all the wants, And all the needs, All I don't want to need at all. } Annabelle | Annabelle was half asleep, doused with slumber as she felt something warm come an lay by her side. The mare didn't bother opening her eyes, but instead moved her crania by stallion's chest, not realizing it was actually Yamanu.
Her mind traveled back to when she was young and with her mother. She and her dam would curl close when it snowed, her mother shielding the harsh winds from Annabelle.
The mare's instincts were overpowering her mind, and Annabelle unconsciously moved closer to Yamanu, sighing contently as her mind wandered into a deeper slumber.
However, it wasn't long before her peaceful sleep was interrupted.
The vivid nightmare of killing her dam made the mare writhe and sob openly in her sleep, and it went on and on with the painful memory. The blood from her mother, the memory of watching Ecstacy freeze under the pond was enough for the sleeping mare to physically push Yamanu away in her sleep.
The nightmare went on, to where the memory of crushing her mother's skull was too vivid, and Annabelle woke up.
She sat there dazed for a moment, looking at the black sky and the whirling snow around her. Her bloodshot blue gaze landed on Yamanu, and she looked down to where she had slept.
Annabelle stood up, flicking her chocolate tail and shaking her pelt, turning her head away from Yamanu.
"You can sleep now, if you want. I'll watch." The mare glanced back at him before turning back around, her body becoming cold again. The mare shook her pelt again, trying to warm herself without it being obvious she was freezing. She didn't want Yamanu to have to do everything for her, not at the moment. The stallion’s body was rather stiff as he found the mare cuddling closer to his form. There was an odd sense of comfort that Yamanu was not accustomed to in the mare’s gestures. His breath and heart rate quickened as her crown found its way nestled against his chest. He was not sure how to react to the gesture or to his body’s natural reaction.
Stiffness faded very slowly over the time as his companion slumbered. It was not until she first began to have her nightmare’s that he found himself truly reclined. Her murmurs instigated slight alarm. Yamanu could sense the mare was not sleeping well, and he deliberated his options. Should he wake her? Try and comfort the resting form? He hadn’t much time to decide before he found Annabelle’s hoof in his side.
With a loud groan and what sounded like a cracking rib, the hellion burst to his feet. Cold eyes glared bitterly at his friend, although the animosity did not remain for long. He shrugged away the shock and pain, knowing she had not meant to do him harm. Or, he thought not, at least.
Taking a few paces away, the stag shook his body free from a mountain of snow that had landed upon his resting form. He would merely wait out the mare’s nightmares. When she calmed he could go back to her and shelter her from the breeze. Yet, he would not get the chance. It appeared Annabelle was waking. She had made an offer to allow him to sleep. He would not accept and had never intended to. They needed to make more distance between them and inferno. He had only paused for her sake. Now that she was awake, it was time to move on. And, while he hated her sleep to not have been peaceful or long, it was probably for the best that it had remained brief.
“I need no rest for now, Annabelle,” the stallion whispered as he approached her. His muzzle gently rose to her back, blowing his hot breath upon her. He knew she was cold, but there was not much he could do while they traveled. “We should head on. We will be paying some of my Era family a visit – I’m uncertain that they will offer us a permanent settlement but perhaps a few days…”
He took a few steps towards their destination, only pausing to be certain his friend was following. They still had a few hours trek ahead of them and he wanted to get going before the snow picked back up again.

{ Please, just don't play with me, My paper heart will bleed. This waiting for destiny won't do. Be with me, Please, I beseech you. Simple things, That make you run away! Catch you if I can! } Annabelle | The mare turned to look at him, her blue eyes, once again, emotionless. She merely nodded at his warm breath lingered upon her neck. An ear drew forward, wanting to question his sudden emotion. But it soon retreated as the nyfrio mutt took a couple steps away.
Yamanu always held his emotions back, just underneath the break where Annabelle couldn't see them. It had been like this for years, sometimes even in their childhood. It had always bothered Annabelle. Sometimes at a dull throb in her head, or sometimes at a full on pain that rattled around in her skull. To be honest, it angered the mare. It always had. But now, the stallion's behavior was changing. Whether he noticed it himself or not, emotions were slowly slipping through the cracks of the stallion's hard outer-shell.
The mare was becoming cold and hard, not wanting to get close to anyone at all. Even the stallion she'd been in love with since their childhood, it just wasn't worth it anymore. Waiting for him, she was going to waste her youth waiting on him. The mutt wanted to give up, she wanted to walk away from him. But something was keeping her here. Something kept luring her back, and she hated it.
She wanted to leave, to get on with her life. But the mare couldn't bear to leave. No, she wouldn't leave.
Annabelle looked up at the stallion, blue eyes watching him with disdain. She picked up her pace to catch up with him, and caught up with him by his left side. Her hard blue gaze turned to look at him, lingering longer than it should before she turned back to look in front of her. [/blockquote] Muse; Fine. MUSE ic` All American Rejects. Yamanu lead the way to his ancestral homelands in silence for a good hour. Memories flooded through his mind of the times he had taken this path in the past. He had traveled so far across the island in short spans of time in his youth. He recalled his grandmother and aunt; oh, how he missed Haize! The young colt had taken her in as if she were his own sister. The Eras, as he recalled, were such kind souls to him – he who carried such dark blood in his veins.
The young stallion was hesitant in step as they ranged closer and closer. He did not really belong in such a pure place, did he? Sure, he was technically of the wind element, but he knew that darkness burned inside of him. Yamanu could feel it in his being. That dark aura is what caused him to shield his emotions. He just was not able to open up in the way that Annabelle might wish. His father, unbeknownst to himself, had fought a similar mental battle when Cheza came around. The females deserved better than either could grant them, did they not? Yamanu could never be sure.
What he knew now was that he, for whatever reason, was bound and determined to make sure Annabelle was safe and far from his father. He had no clue if they belonged by each other’s side or that he was doing her any justice by being there – but he was there and was going to do all in his power to help her. Without realizing it, his long legs were striding taller and further through the depths of the snow. They weren’t far now!
And, still, something caused him to stop in his footsteps. It was a silhouette in the distance. Stepping forward in protective instinct, Yamanu shielded his companion’s form. His blue orbs narrowed intently, but the snow had picked up once more – blinding him from the figure.
The young stallion tried to blink away the snow. With one blink, it seemed as if there were two forms – one a glowing ember. Fire? Was it a Zunden. Yamanu had no clue, but he did know that with the next blink both figures were gone. “Run! Annabelle, hurry!” He shouted and without hesitation was launched in an alternate direction. He was careful to be sure that the mare was following him in his mad dash. They had to get to Avvollegere before whatever that figure was got to them.
