History:
Elise is a horse born by a mother that still had a bridle rotting off of her face. It was merely a relic of human ownership for her mother was a horse who got into the island off of a boat. She was foaled soon after in the summer when the flies would pick at your ears and make you flick your tail. Elise’s mother, known as Salty, was a Palamino just as her daughter was, only a touch darker and her father was still on the mainland, so her mother was pregnant when she came to the island—also a Palamino. Elise’s breeding was definitely for color, as such, her conformation suffered a bit, but this doesn’t affect her all-around hardiness, only her speed and stamina. This doesn’t matter, however, and Salty takes great pride in her family’s breeding—enough for Elise to not be good enough except for a strong, sturdy looking Palamino stallion. And even then, she made sure that her daughter didn’t get any stallion eyeing at her—she fought to make sure of it. When the lead stallion became interested in her little filly, she simply left the herd and went a little ways to be by herself.
Of course, this didn’t last long. Her mother left herself and her daughter wide open to predator attacks and was easy prey to bullies of all species—including the dark-aligned horses. And Salty received her death sentence when one of these run-ins led to a broken leg. One day, Elise woke up to see the various island scavengers ripping her mother apart and taking their fill. She was still alive, somehow, and Elise watched with morbid fascination as her mother screamed before she realized how very wrong it was to think in that manner and she trotted away.
Personality:
Now, she was never the sort of horse to really, really be all too much into the touchy-feely sort of mindset. However, most horses might mistake that she is because she is extremely childish and soft-hearted. It seems that being her mother’s little filly for so long has made her a dependent-type personality, and she thrives on attention.
She’s also very vain. Now, she isn’t a terribly ugly horse and many might think she is very cute with her short, pony-like stature and her pretty Palomino Paint hide, and the way her little imperfections build up to a bony that can’t be considered outright beautiful, but definitely cute or pretty in her own way.
Elise has trouble relating to others due to her secret interests. She finds most gross-out or terrible things incredibly fascinating as well. She has a scientific way of looking at things and literally cannot see the ugly in things as ugly—she only sees it as interesting. In fact, she has a rather off way of viewing the world—in relationships, out of the box thinking, and just strange obsessions and interests.
Sure, Elise has relationships with other horses, but these aren’t entirely as profoundly important to her as anything else. Her mother had failed completely in teaching her how to make and keep friends and the fact that her mother had manipulated every second of her life has her both dependent on others, but also unable to understand that there are boundaries and that there are such things as etiquette, politeness, and reciprocity in relationships. She usually says the wrong thing or whatever pops into her head because she doesn’t know any better. Anyways, let’s just say that Elise pretty much comes across as a loonie, a rude little mare, or a helpless damsel in distress to anybody who first meets her.
So, about Elise. She seems to be looking at the world with her head on upside down. Everything is a grand experiment and she’s a little fly in a box. Or whatever weird metaphor she’ll come up with. Get used to that. She talks in obtuse metaphors. Sometimes, even she loses what she means. And obsessions, she likes to lick and nuzzle things, especially shiny things. Or soft things. She tried spiny things once, but that wasn’t fun. And she might suckle on things as well. She’s just that sort of horse. It isn’t a real embarrassing habit, but might evolve to be one if other horses point it out to her.
The little pony horse likes to meet others simply because she doesn’t know what’s going to happen next. Every meeting is a great “what if” question posed and she simply sees the things that happen during the meet-up as the answer to that “what if”. She’s curious too about everything. Elise sees the world as wonderful, even at its most terrible… and she has no sense of right and wrong and lacks the feeling of guilt really.
