ˣ Perhaps it was just her mind playing tricks, but when she blinked, she was still there. A translucent shape of faded gray that was her mother. Her once-vibrant markings were faded, and green irises no longer had any pupils. At first, poor Mink thought she was seeing things, her grief-stricken imagination giving her what she wanted to see. But her mother was actually back. As a phantom. By now, Tigeress had learned how to speak to her daughter, and they were inseperable.
ˣ Mink and Tigeress walked side by side down the beach, but only Mink made tracks in the powdery white sand. Waves splashed smoothly onto the shore, lapping at the mares' legs as they went by. It was a fairly calm day, but the temperatures were a record high. Cicadas buzzed dramaticly from the trees nearby the beach, adding to the effect. Mink hung her head low, blinking her eyes tiredly. She had a lack of energy lately, but her mother had told her that it was just because of the heat made her so tired. Truthfully, Tigeress sapped most of Mink's strength to remain there, but she wouldn't tell her that.

Phantom The ivory mare quietly walked onto the red sands of Spiagga del Nord with a somber expression on her face. It was a perfect match for the less than perfect weather. It had been overcast for a few days, the clouds casting an eerie, green hue across the land. It was all to perfect is what the mare sourly thought.
Phantom used to be a mare of great beauty. She was a pure bred Arab who had come from a prestigious breeding farm in the north of England. Tragically she wound up with her cousin Torchwood on this island after a series of unfortunate events. She then found a herd and the rest is history.
But as said before she was an image of perfection for the Arabian breed. Now, now she didn't even recognise herself. Instead of a perfect white coaat, it held numerous battle scars, many of them ugly, marring her once perfect features. It almost looked like her coat didn't belong on her body structure. Her mane and tail were matted and torn short in many spots, most not even growing out since they were the result of an injury.
She also looked very tired and bit skinny. In these past few months she hadn't eaten much, nor had she had much sleep. She was a warrior, a protector, through and through and would see to it that her herd was kept safe, even if that meant sacrificing her own well being for the group and her leader.
She also looked older. Of course when she had come to the island she was only five. Six years had passed. That may not seem like much but from all her trails and tribulations she had endured, somedays she could look twice the age of eleven. Even her pretty face now held a number of scars, which added to the illusion that she was older.
Her eyes were the only young thing about her, they still held her spirit in them. A fiery one at that. But that too had gone once her love, Anil, was killed. She blamed herself for his death since she was his commander and he was her responsibility. She had failed him, the one horse who she ever loved, and secretly at that!
The poor mare had never really felt any connection, any bond, with other horses. It was safe to say she did not have many friends, other than her cousin Torchwood, whom she felt more obligated to befriend since they had grown up together. Yes she was likable, but she felt that if she ever got attachted something bad would happen to the horses she loved or for some reason they would betray her.
Anil was the only other horse she ever had any connection to. It hadn't even started out that way. She had found Anil on this beach five years ago. He was very young then, being two years younger than herself. She took him to Rocas, introduced him to Fiana and that was it. She never spoke to the colt again since he wasn't in her army, which she was constantly busy in.
On day she went to a herd meeting to look for new recruits, Anil happened to be among them. For months and months she trained and drilled him. Taught him everything she knew, which was a hell of a lot. She spent hours a day teaching the poor lad but it made him stronger emotionally and physically.
After she saw he was fit for her army she let him go to the large battles. His skills had advanced so much and before she knew it she made him her second in command. They trained together everyday; battle manuevres, stamina tests, races, fighting, you name it they practiced it. It looked almost choreographed, like an intense dance.
She soon found that she htought of him more as a friend instead of a student now. Phantom was also able to actually have long conversations with him, somehting she and Torchwood only ever did before.
Then the Fire Herd rose to power and attacked her herd numerous times. During the last ambush was when she realised that she may have fallen in love with Anil. When the ambush was over it left her severly injured (which is where she acquired her limp), and Anil, half dead. She then confessed her love to him and he as well to her. A cuople hours alter another ambush was carried out and Anil was killed.
Now that the Zunden had been laying low, she did not have to worry much about them. If they did decide to cause trouble a raven would alert her and she would be back to help out her army. They could do just as well without her, she trusted her newly appointed second in command.
These past few days she had taken to wandering the lands like a ghost. Her name really did fit her now. She loved coming to the beach. The sound of the waves, gulls, and wind made her forget everything. Most times she would come here, stand dangerously close to a cliff edge or near the water, just standing with her eyes closed. Sometimes for hours on end.
The ivory fae drew in a deep breath, held it, then let it out as she opened her eyes. Her chocolate orbs danced across the beach to another mare. Phantom cocked her head, surprised to see a young thing like that out here. The closer she got, the more she worried about the mare. She looked like she had abad case of heat stroke. "Miss?" Phantom called out as she trotted up to her. "Are y'alright? Y'don't look too good."

ˣ There's someone coming... Tigeress had stopped, head raised as she gazed out way across the beach where a small shape had appeared. Her ears turned forward as she continued to look curiously, muscles tense and rigid. Mink, however, just continued walking, her head still hung low towards the sand. She gave her mother a short look, seeing her focus, and sighed, raising her head slightly higher. Her ears flicked lazily at the flies, shaking her neck to try and shoo them away. Tigeress frowned at her daughter. Couldn't she at least take interest in something?
ˣ The phantom mare began toward the slowly approuching shape, and suddenly disapeared, only to reapear near the arab mare. Her pupiless eyes studied her, noting her battle-toned body and numerous scars. She also noticed the poor thing looked...broken. But best not to take chances with her. Tigeress turned and returned to her daughter with a snort. Don't mess with this one. You'll get your ass kicked. Mink snorted and rolled her eyes. "Gee, thanks for the support," she muttered, shooting her mother a glare. Tigeress narrowed her eyes at her, but didn't reply. Mink kept walking, until the mare came quite close, when she stopped.
ˣ Mink blinked as she was asked if she was alright. Very much so she wanted to say she wasn't. She was thirsty and very much hungry, but she was afraid that if she left the beach her mother would leave, or something would happen to her, however that would happen. Tigeress couldn't leave the beach, no matter how she tried. One look from the ghost mare told her to keep quiet. Lie.. Mink nodded. "I'm fine, thanks," she told her, giving the arab a small smile.

Phantom
Phantom looked around the area for a minute. She could have sworn she felt another horse by her. The mare had some kind of sixth sense when it came to other horses being around, even if they were not visisble yet. She had trained her self to be this alert, and it had saved lives on numerous occasions.
After a moment of careful observation, Phantom shrugged off the feeling and focused back on the other mare who had appreantly said something while Phantom was in her own little world. She was going to ask what the mare had mumbled, but somehow she knew that it wasn't directed at her.
The other mare then said that she was fine. Phantom rolled her eyes and said "No you're not. I can tell. I've seen enough of this in my lifetime." she said. This other mare looked rather young and it would be a complete waste of life is she just withered away on this beach. "Now, I can take y'to a nice stream if you'd like. I'd hate to see y'perish out here." Phantom said with a determined look on her face. Soemthing was wrong with this mare, and not just wrong in the visible, physical sense. Something else was plaguing her being.

ˣ One of Mink's ears turned back unsurely, frowning. The offer was tempting, but she couldn't just leave her mother here! She might disapear, and she'd never be able to see her again. Just because she left, to quench her thirst. She wasn't that thirsty..Tigeress stood quietly beside her, glaring at the arab. How dare she suggest for Mink to leave? She was perfectly fine! Sure, she looked like she lacked some sleep, but otherwise she was fine. Stay here with me.. Tigeress purred, you don't need any water. There's plenty right here. Mink gave her mother a very quick glance before looking back to the other horse. "No, I know where the water is," she told her, shaking her head. Good girl, Tigeress nodded smugly, how about we go chase some seaguls? Sounds like fun to me. The young mare nodded to her mother, then curtly to the other mare. "I think I'll go," she said absently, then turned and began to walk the opposite direction down the beach.
ˣ Tigeress gave the other mare a final look. She's fine, she told her darkly, though she didn't think the mare heard her anyway. Then she turned and trotted after her daughter, picking up her feet to keep from dragging in the hot sand, even though she couldn't even feel it. Mink kept her head up, but ears back. Maybe she should go get water? She glanced back at the other mare. Maybe..

Phantom
Phantom's mouth tugged into a frown as the fae said that she knew where the water was at. I didn't look like she did. "You look like you're about t'wilt." Phantom stated flatly. She only spoke the truth. The poor mare looked like she was going to keel over at any moment. She was very dehydrated. It did cross Phantom's mind that perhaps she was ill.
The other mare then said that she should go and began to walk off. Phantom raised her dished face a bit and cocked her head to the right, a confused expression on her visage. What the hell? she thought. It was almost as if someone was talling this other mare what to do. Well, telling the opposite of what Phantom was trying to get her to do.
Phantom began to walk after the mare when she heard some say 'She's fine'. Phantom halted and turned her head to the right. Hadn't that voice just come from next to her? Her chocolate orbs eyed that spot for a few seconds before she jogged up to the lethargic filly. "Did you hear that?" Phantom asked her, not caring if it seemed odd or improper at the moment.

ˣ Mink gave the mare a look back as she mentioned how she appeared. She just shrugged her shoulders and didn't reply. So what? It was worth giving up her appearance to be with her mother again. Mink kept on walking, but turned a ear back slightly as her mother spoke to the other mare. She rolled her eyes. Good luck with that, mom, she thought. Why bother trying to speak to someone if they couldn't hear you? But the filly was quite surprised, however, when the other mare trotted after her and asked if she heard anything. Mink turned her head, trying to keep her face composed, and attempted to give the gray arab a weird look. "Uhhmm, no..?" she lied, furrowing her eyes at her for a minute before she shook her mane dismissively and continued walking. "Are you sure you don't need a drink? You seem to be hallucinating," she told her, glancing back at her once again. Tigeress walked beside her daughter, looking straight at Phantom. How could she possibly have heard her? How can she hear me? hissed the ghost, ears flattened at the young mare beside her. Mink gave her mother a silencing look, but continued on, unfazed.

Phantom
The Arab gave the young mare an odd look. "Oh." was all she said. "I could've sworn someone said somethin'. Maybe it was just the wind. " she reasoned. Thats all that it was; the wind. Maybe a voice from somewhere else on the island had been carried by it. Phantom had heard things like that before, random, muffled voices from quite aways on Isola Dei Dei. But this voice was much clearer than a distant scream. It seemed like who ever, or what ever, had said it was within a few feet of the ivory mare. Phantom closed her chocolate optics for a minute and let out a slow breath. Just forget about it. she told herself. I'm probably going mad. Ha! That's it. This place has finally driven me mad.
Phantom's optics darted to the mare again. She seemed a bit... anxious about something. There was definitely something strange going on with her, Phantom could just sense it. It was one of those sixth sense things where you just knew there was something strange going on around you.
The Arab remained silent for a moment before saying "I s'pose I should introduce myself. I am Phantom, lead warrior of Terra de Rocas." She gave a slight nod as a 'hello' and vaguely nodded her head in the direction of Terra de Rocas.
