Explanation:
Lord: Duh
Lady: His chosen partner
Strategos: The term strategos literally means "army leader". It is used in Greek to mean "general" and is the highest officer rank. This is the ranking of Beta stallion. The Strategos may invite mares home, though rather than becoming his ‘personal’ mares, they will join the herd and be appointed ranks. The Strategos and SOULLUST may determine the deserved rank of the mares. The Strategos may also steal and challenge for mares. The Strategos may breed with any mare with SOULLUST’s permission.
Taxiarhos: Taxiarhos is used in the Greek language to mean "Brigadier". It was an elected position of the chief military officer of a traditional tribe. This is the ranking of Delta stallion. The Taxiarhos is lower in rank to the Strategos and must respect his superiors. The Taxiarhos may also invite mares home and the same rules apply to the Taxiarhos as to the Strategos, though the Taxiarhos can not challenge for mares, but with SOULLUST’s permission, may steal them.
Syntagmatarkhis: Syntagmatarkhis is used in the Greek language to mean "Colonel". It is translated as "leader of a regiment”. This is the ranking of a Gamma stallion. The Syntagmatarkhis is lower in rank to the Taxiarhos and must respect his superiors. The Syntagmatarkhis may invite mares home with SOULLUST’s permission and may not steal or challenge for mares. The Syntagmatarkhis may breed with any mare with SOULLUST’s permission.
Tagma: The tagma is a term for a military unit of battalion size. These are the Rank One Warriors, or the mares and stallions of the herd that are more favored. This rank could also be compared to that of a noble. They are below the Syntagmatarkhis in ranking and must respect their superiors. No Tagma may venture away from NORVALLEN without the express permission of SOULLUST.
Lokhos: the lokhos is today the name for a company of soldiers; these are the Rank Two Warriors, less favored mares and stallions. This rank could be compared to the social status of merchant; not noble, yet not beggars. They are below the Tagma in ranking and must respect their superiors. No Lokhos may venture away from NORVALLEN without the express permission of SOULLUST.
Thralldom: Slavery (also called thralldom) is a social-economic system under which certain persons — known as slaves — are deprived of personal freedom. This ranking is generally reserved for those who have displeased SOULLUST. They may not leave the herd. Those under this ranking must obey everyone. They are the slaves of the herd; they are there for the personal... pleasure of their superiors. Foals of the slaves will most likely be killed or raised as slaves themselves. No Thralldom may venture away from NORVALLEN without the express permission of SOULLUST.
Neonates: Neonates are the infants of the herd. Foals borne by any member of the herd will be listed here, except for slave foals as, unless they are granted freedom, will be listed with the slaves from birth. Even if a foal is traded for allegiances it will still be listed here, so that a record may be kept of the herd’s successors. Any foal borne of those who are not of this herd will be killed. SOULLUST’s foals will be at the top of the list.
