Lynx [/b] It's not that unusual, when everything is beautiful. Just another ordinary miracle today...
The sun was low upon the horizon, the sky a hazy mixture of pinks, oranges, purples, reds and blues. Fluffy clouds drifted across the slowly darkening sky, and birds flew across fields and between trees, giving their final chirps before the crickets would take over. The trees swayed with the light gusts of wind that blew through their tops, rustling their new leaves. All was calm and peaceful.
Down in the thicket of the forest, a chestnut brood stood, her large barrel fattened with foal, grazing on a small patch of clover. Her forest green orbs glances around her, her pillars shuffling uneasily. The mare had heard of the vicious attack the wolves had placed on an older mare, Artava, that happened not too long ago. She would've had visited her body, but she chickened out. What if other wolves had come by to get their fallen, and feast on Artava? Goosebumps ripples along the vixen's back, and a shiver racked her bodice. The foal in her abdomen stirred, disturbed by his dam's alarm. The chestnut's maw turned to brush the soft fur where her child would be in her stomach. Oh, how the little creature had won her over, though she hadn't even seen him, or her, yet. The child of the Lead Stallion. A contented sigh came from the vixen, as a barn owl hooted softly from his branch, then took flight as the sun disapeared behind the snow-capped mountains.
Lynx blinked her orbs a few times as she gazed at the ghostly glow of the full-moon as it slowly climbed up into the navy blue sky. Her banner flicked on her rump, and her crown lowered and rubbed against her left pillar to get at an itch. A nudge in her abdomen caught her attenchion, and her crown slowly raised and intense green orbs locked on her buldging barrel. Nudge nudge.
Snorting, the vixen stomped her daggers on the Earth, her pillars gently folding as she lowered herself to the Earth. Her baby was coming. Her baby was coming! A small smile of excitement formed on her maw, but it was short lived. A sharp pain lurched her, and her smile turned into a grimace. She turned over onto her side, and her breath quickened and her nares flared, auds going to the crest of her crown. Another sharp pain rippled through her normally slender bodice, and se recieved a small kick. Her neck stretched on, and orbs flashed around in slight panic, though nothing was going wrong. She whuffled softly a few times, bobbing her crown across the ground. Her foal was being born shortly after the death of Artava.
When one thing falls, another grows.

That's so ironic, how Artava just died and then a foal is born. Lol.

Lassan had been wandering around his lands, when he caught Lynx's scent. He smiled a bit and turned in that general direction, ready to say hello and maybe have a little chat with her or something of the sort. He flicked his ebony banner and broke into a slwo jog, happily ambling along.
Lassan stopped when he saw Lynx up ahead, laying on the ground. He snorted and quickly walked up to her. He soon realised that she was having their foal. Lassan walked over to her crown and placed his maw on hers, smiling.

The laboring essa's green pools found their way to Lassan as he arrived, touching his muzzle with hers. She smiled softly in reply, and then grimaced again as another pang of pain ran along her spine. She shivered, goosebumps appearing along her barrel, though it was a pleasently warm twilight. Sweat began to gather on her flanks, and she groaned softly. She flicked her banner and continued to flare her nares, glancing at Lassan again. She clentched her jaws tight, and looked to stare at a bush, trying to distract herself from the pain. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* About half an hour later, a dark bay foal lay on the groudn next to the sweat-drenched essa, not moving except for it's steady breathing. Lynx slowly raised her head and spotted her new foal, and immediatly sat up on her stomach, not wanting to get up quite yet since she was still sore. The mare craned her neck over to the foal and licked it's small auds gently, and the foal responded with a snort and sitting up on it's belly. Lynx could not yet tell yet if it was a colt or filly, but it would not matter to her, as long as she had a little one at her side. She licked the small bay's coat gently with her tounge, determinded to get it clean and dry, even though the air was pleasently warm, caressing the chestnut's pelt. Once the foal was dry, the mare slowly stood, grimacing slightly as the mild pain in her movement but otherwise ignored it, lowering her muzzle to touch the foal on it's shoulder in a nudge, encouraging it to stand. She glanced at Lassan, looking as if she had just figured out he was there, but then smiled and looked back to her---their, baby.

Lassan watched her as her face screwed up in pain. He felt a bit helpless, knowing that there was nothing that he could do to help her, beside being there with her. He had been there when Shadow was born and Flame too, even though the little filly was in no way his.
***
Lassan looked to the little dark bay foal on the grassy earth below. It was beautiful, pure Arab too. It had qualities of both Lynx and of him. Lassan took a few steps back as Lynx went over to their foal to get to know it. Lassan would not intervine in any way, he would just observe until Lynx wanted him to come over and meet it. He didn't know if it was a colt or a filly yet.

Lynx nodded to Lassan, who seemed to be cautious and want to have her permission before he went to the dark bay foal. Her nares flared delicately as she ruffled the foal's mane. The young creature put it's legs out on the ground, trying to stable itself before suddenly pushing off on the ground and standing up for a brief second before going down again. The foal attempted this several more times for about 5 minutes until the foal---the colt, was on its daggers. He wabbled a little, but stabled himself, and then cautiously walked over to Lynx, sniffing around under her barrel until he found what he was looking for, and began suckling.

Lassan took a few tentative steps toward Lynx and the foal. Lassan finally came up to Lynx and touched his velveteen maw to her own. He then looked to the foal with admiration. He was beautiful. Lassan smiled, nearing the colt after he got his bearings and could stand. "'Ello lad." he saw, extending his maw to the colt. "Welcome to Earth."
