It was the most spectacular feeling in the world to know that the stallion had never left her side. Her body still ached heavily from the abuse it had recieved, but her mind had lost most of its wariness that had caused it to think so sluggishly before. The only thing that remained was a spiking headache that stabbed at her skull with heavy intensity. She winced inwardly, disguising her pain with a small smile to the stallion that seemed all too happy that she had pulled through one major feat. Now it was a matter whether her body would cooperate and heal itself. "You stayed." It wasn't a question, nor words of shock, but rather of pleasant surprise as if he were a friend dropping in for an unexpected visit. His soft sounds were a mixture between releaved weeping and comforting noises, and their purpose was fufilled. She felt a lot better now that she knew she wasn't alone, no matter what may happen in the next few delicate hours of life. A simple sound of response came from the mare's throat, a little nicker of assurance to Stranger, or Shiminege, whichever you may please. Her golden eyes examined the stallion with appraising eyes, again counting the ribs that jutted out of his sack of skin. What a shame, that he had withered away to such an emaciated condition. It would be only a matter of time before he fell to the Earth himself. A straining groan escaped through the mare's clasped lips as she made the effort to lift herself off her side and onto her, her legs bracing against the ground as she sucked in a shaky breath, before she slowly lifted herself to her feet. Blood had dried and crusted onto her gray pelt, and her bodice still ached heavily, but she was alright, ignoring the stabbing pain in her head. "You should really get something to eat," she told him, frowning slightly. "You're making me hungry just looking at you."

The interminable extension of overdue compassion bore forth the passing features that reigned over the shivering collection of bones, the exhausted tones of the rising mare before himself enough feeling alone for something far more than broken smile to capture every fold of feature. Such a breathe was never birthed before this shared moment as the stallion seemed to momentarily shed overbearing coat of awaiting disdainful world from the thin plates of shoulders. Standing with almost an unfitting look of prideful youth that was always supposed to captivate one of his minor aging, the past was left in ticking submission as she rose with effort to her feet, him blowing softly encouragement with the strain of bodily muscles.
Dipped caverns of nostrils flared to relieve themselves to the aura of sulking death, freeing the depths of lingering crimson ash. Yet, the next mere audios uttered was enough to cloud the radiant mind, once more dropping low to cover his form with the chains that bound his soul. Hollowed orbs shuttered with returning bottomless pools as the sparks now flickered dimly away, hanging upon the edge of her mere frown. The fixture was now not something of selfish nature when pelting quaked at the mention of feeding. Rasping breath was collected as a bitter tongue hardened as if on cue. Nevertheless, he did the next subject as a fit of mere duty toward this mare, one who he felt deserved satisfaction, however little he could provide.
Shriveled muscles stretched taunt as weathered skinned neck dipped with strain downward for maw to collect a mouthful of substance. The stag chewed deliberately, teeth aching with longing as parched throat seemed to weep. Force. Chew. It is not as hard as you are making it, Stranger. Apathetically, the burdened frame swallowed, eyes searching the fea's for approval as he felt it slid into the empty chamber of stomach, knotted tight with long days of hunger. Only slightly did he shiver now as mind raced with wordless sentence. Yet he seemed incapable of such speech, no matter of eager one might seem.

Aithne's whole mood seemed to lighten up at the appearance of the smile on the stallion's maw. It was a feeble one, but one either way, and it made all the difference. It was hard to believe that somewhere in the world, the sun wasn't shining. But the mere mention of food sent the stallion back into his dark void of lonely suffering. Was it in all honesty that bad to even think of saving himself? His selflessness was touching; clearly he deserved something better than wasting away and haunting the isle, though he still breathed. He was almost like a walking corpse.
The Züden's ears perked forward as he regretfully lowered his muzzle and took a bite of food. The watched him carefully, as if she didn't trust him eating by himself. But he did, and he soon looked to her for assurance. She smiled encouragingly, before she moved one of her hooves to scrape away more snow to join him in his grazing, neck lowering and her teeth plucking up the stiff with frost grass, that soon melted in her maw. She peered a glance up at Stranger, chewing thoughtfully.

The flickering motions of old pictures replayed themselves across the regretful stallion's creased orbs with every new blink. Haunting images that lingered long after such a fleeting feat was accomplished, as if they clung to the taunt shriveled paper-like skin with the hopes of becoming live once more, just as this emaciated stag was. Stranger's depthless sockets continued to flicker periodically to the now-grazing mare, his mouth tasting momentarily the flavorless sod before it was choked down his pipe to be digested without a second thought from his betraying body. Survivor's guilt? The mutt of a equine raised his large head slightly to offer another broken smile to Aithne as her own eyes peered at him, the features falling as he took another raw bite.
The serrated saws of bladed grass cut into the silken mouth of the withering stallion, causing the cuts they fabricated to give forth droplets of scarlet hue, which trickled in slow rivulets down his wrinkled muzzle, dampening the whiskers found there with crimson. The drops found the rain to ground, dripping without care as Stranger stopped to watch them pool upon the snow, melting small bullet-shaped holes into the previously unblemished ivory sheen. The next imagine that pronounced itself was of a young child, dancing in the snow, right as she unknowingly glided into the street just as- The sad oculars peered up at the Zuden once more, the elemental who he seemingly herded Death away from. The dripping razor-bladed smile fragmented as he blinked away the tears. There would be no more. He had cried himself dry.
With almost belated apprehension, another mouthful was taken in order to quench the guilt that now washed over him as the last situation was taken in consideration. The feeling of happiness should be ever so present to him, for this mare before him was alive, as well as eating, and he should never ask for anything more from others. More than ever, he wished to please her, even as the pain from the cuts in his muzzle were merely added to with each fevered bite he took. Swallowing bitterly, he ignored the sharp aches, coughing hollowly as he continued to eat. He must help this mare, he must eat, to save himself was to save her. This was his purpose, even if he had to ignore the growing pool of blood steadily increased with each taken bite.
