The sun shimmered down from the blue skies, as the dainty little Arabian named Halloween walked through the grasses toward the lovely waterfall that fell into the small pond. Bouncing around her was a beautiful little filly, her filly. Halloween's eyes swelled with pride as she watched her child dance around her, quite happy to be out of Aro's lands for a few hours. Flicking her tail slowly behind her, the mare stopped at the water's edge, lowering her delicate muzzle into the water to drink slowly. Behind her, her daughter had stopped her prancing around, her own pretty little face gazing off into the trees.
"Momma, where is Daddy?"
Halloween heard these words from her daughter, and she looked up from the pond. Her deep brown eyes stared at the offspring of Oscurita, and she smiled faintly. "I do not know, Verridith. I don't know." The mare's voice had turned soft, and she watched as her daughter merely shrugged, and continued prancing through the growing grass and flowers. It was a miracle how two dark parents could produce such a light little thing. Smiling faintly, Halloween continued to watch her daughter run around, her mind wandering slightly.
Her thoughts went to the thing that she had been thinking about most lately: Carzeth. Sighing, the mare looked into the water, remembering the night that Carzeth had chased her off. It had been so beautiful at first, the way it should have turned out. Then everything changed and here she was now. With a filly at her side, and in a herd she hardly knew of. And a stallion who hadn't bothered to even check up on her while she was pregnant. Flaring her nostrils, Halloween stomped a fore hoof into the muddy bank, then turned to check on her daughter again. Verridith now was resting in the long grass, only her head visible.
Smirking, Halloween walked over to her daughter, lowering her head nearby and nibbling at the filly's crest. "You know your momma loves you, right." Halloween asked softly, and Verridith merely nodded at her mother, as she drifted into a light sleep. Halloween let a true smile cross her maw, and she let her head rest upon her daughter's side, falling into a light sleep as well, with the sun flitting down in between the trees, almost like a spotlight on the two horses. If only something like this could last.
So maybe it's true That I can't live without you And maybe two is better than one But there's so much time To figure out the rest of my life And you've already got me coming undone And I'm thinking two is better than one

F o r t i n b r a s »» The ebony stallion had been alone all winter. The last time he had even seen a horse was several months ago. He began to wonder ho wmany were left on the island. He knew, from over hearing birds, that the Zunden were back on the rise and killing 'normals' left and right. Had that happened to a lot of the wanderers? Or had they just not been able to survive the harsh winters on Isola Dei Dei? Either way, it was very lonely.
»» The stag had decided to wander in the willowed forest today. A lot of lights and neutrals came here. Plus, since it was spring, most of the trees were starting to bloom. It always looked and smelled wonderful during the spring months. Now that it was spring, maybe a few new horses would be here for one reason or another.
»» Fortinbras broke into an animated canter as he bounded through the woods. Ah! The warm breeze in his face was anice change. The stallion closed his orbs and threw his head back, letting out a whinny of excitement. He pushed his canter into a gallop and inhaled deeply. It was at this breath when he noticed the scent of not one, but two other equines near by. The ebony quickly turned and followed the scent.
»» A few minutes later, his chocolate orbs caught sight of a mare and her foal. What were they doing out here laone? Where was this mare's mate and the foal's father? It seemed odd that such a good looking mare was out here all alone with a younger looking child.
»» Fortinbras slowed his gait as he approached the couple, not wanting to startle them. "Hello." he said with a bob of his head. "Lovely day, innit?" he asked, hoping to strike up a conversation. He kept his voice light and hpoed that his Italian accent might charm her a bit. It had happened before.

[ - ] The ears atop Halloween's head flicked slightly, as she lifted it from her sleeping daughter's bodice. Golden eyes looked toward the owner of the voice, and her heart did a flip-flop. Carzeth?! Ears tilted back against her skull, and she snorted violently. "What do you want? Can't get enough of me," she threw her head up, and stepped over her daughter, shielding her baby from this stallion. If only she knew that Fortinbras wasn't Carzeth. That this stallion wouldn't know what the heck Halloween was talking about.
Verridith opened her eyes, glancing from in between her mother's front legs. "Momma..." she nickered faintly, wondering what was going on. Of course, with her being so young, she didn't understand why her mother was taking such a defensive stance toward this stallion. She heard her mother let out a warning nicker, and she let out her own frightened whinny.
And now, the thought crossed across Halloween's mind, that if Oscurita did care, he wouldn't have let this happen. That he would be by her side, helping her raise this baby. But where was he? She hadn't seen him in months, and this frightened her. [ + ]

F o r t i n b r a s »» Fortinbras was rather shocked at the mare's outburst. Did he know her? Had he done something to her? The stag searched his memory for her. She was not one of the mares that he had ever been with, that was for sure. So what was she so up tight about?
»» The stallion blinked a few times as the vixens started to give him a warning whinny and her daughter began to squeal as well. "I have no idea what you're talkin' about miss." he said, trying to keep himself calm. "I've never met you before in my life. You must be confusing me with someone else." he told her sternly.
»» Now that he thought about it, she looked frightened, and so did her small daughter. Did something happen to them? They looked like a forlorn pair and Fortinbras was curious to know their story. But he knew that would take time, even if the mare did talk to him.

Confused, Halloween flicked her ears ever so slightly at this stallion's voice. He didn't sound like Carzeth at all. Flaring her nostrils, she breathed in his scent, and then felt very ashamed of how she acted. Of course, this wasn't Carzeth. This stallion just happened to look like him. "Oh, please forgive me. I thought you to be someone else," Halloween smiled sheepishly, and stepped over Verridith, careful not to allow her hooves to step on her fragile daughter. The bay Arabian lifted her head slightly, surveying this unknown stallion. "I hadn't expected someone to just appear within the clearing. I'm sorry for acting like that. You must understand a mother trying to protect her child." A more welcoming look crossed her face, as Halloween began to calm down a lot more.
From behind her, Verridith managed to push herself up, and wander just behind her dam, looking over at this strange stallion her mother was conversing with. Her tiny head tilted, and she flared her nostrils. This stallion wasn't her father! She let out a whinny, almost as if she were trying to scare this stallion away, and bolted forward, her ears flattened tight against her skull. "Get away from my mommy, you meanie stallion," the filly whinnied in warning, half-rearing as she came close to Fortinbras.
Halloween watched in shock as Verridith ran forward, and sent out a whinny at her daughter. "Verridith, get over here, now," the Arab told her daughter, and the little foal stopped her charge to look at her mother innocently. Halloween gave the filly a warning look, and Verridith slunk back to her mother's side, glaring forlornly at Fortinbras. "And please excuse my daughter. She hasn't been around a lot of other horses yet."

F o r t i n b r a s »» The Campolina cross continued to stare at the mare as shw spoke. Ah, so it was a mistake on her part. Fortinbras had been sure that he had never wronged this vixen. I wonder who she mistook me for? he wondered. I guess I do look like most Friesians or Spanish bred horses. It has happened a couple times before. Ha, that shows how unique all of us are.
»» Fortinbras was brought back to earth when she continued on, talking about how she had not expected anyone to be in these parts. "Oh." he said quietly. "Don't worry about it. I'm sorry if I startled you. I would imagine that I may look like something to fear, especially since you have your daughter with you." the brute said as his orbs wandered around the trees, making sure that no other equines were near by presently.
»» All of the sudden, Fortinbras heard the beating of hooves on the grass. It took him a moment to realise that the mare's filly had run up to him, trying to scare him away from her mother. The ebony stallion smiled at the filly as she reared. Well, she certainly has a lot of spirit. Wonder if she takes after her mother.
»» "She's fine." Fortinbras said, looking back up to the mare. The stallion had never minded children, he actually enjoyed them, but he never had had any of his own. The closest he ever had were his nieces and nephews out of his older sister, who he hated t oadmit, was a whore. But it was true. The two didn't really talk anymore and Fortinbras guessed that she was probably running around, still trying to seduce random hellions.
»» Fortinbras then realised that he had not introduced himself to the mare. "Oh, pardon me." he told her. "I am Fortinbras." The ebony fidgeted a bit as he waited for her response. He figured that she was most likely not going to talk to him since he didn't hold a position in any herd.

She didn't fear him; she feared who she thought he was. Flaring her nostrils ever so slightly, the mare shifted, so that Verridith was a bit away from her. "Pleasure to meet you, Fortinbras. I am Halloween, and, this is my daughter Verridith." A friendly smile crossed the Arabian's maw now, as she bowed her head ever so slightly. She had grown accustomed to bowing to other horses now, considering she wasn't a Queen any longer. Flicking her tail slowly behind her, the mare shifted.
Verridith glanced to her mother as she was introduced, then back to Fortinbras, her eyes still narrowed. It was only when her mother snorted at her that she spoke up. "Nice to meet you..." her words were mumbled slightly, and her mother glared at her. "FIne, fine! Nice to meet you, mister Fortinbras." Verridith huffed, and walked away from the two adults, over to the edge of the water. She looked down, almost looking sad.
Halloween sighed, and shook her head slightly. "I'm going to have to apologize a million times for her actions. I'm surprised I've been able to keep my calm with her attitude. I really don't know why you're setting her off like this." The mare shifted uncomfortably, then lifted her head up slightly. "So, what are you doing wandering around the forest, Fortinbras? Surely you have a home somewhere."

F o r t i n b r a s »» A smile crept up on the stag's mug as the mare, Halloween, introduced herself and her filly, Verridith. Fortinbras tilted his head a bit as she bowed in greeting to him. He had never had anyone do that to him since he never said he held any special herd position. The stallion shrugged it off and returned the action saying "And it's my pleasure to make your acquaintance Halloween."
»» The ebony stag then turned his attention to the filly. "Hello Verridith." he said to her with a bob of his roman-nosed crown. The little filly then mumbled something that sounded like a sort of greeting but he wasn't too sure about it. Then Verridith spoke up after her mother gave her look. Verridith sure did have spunk to her.
»» Fortinbras looked back to Halloween when she started to apologise for her daughter. "It's fine." Fortinbras told her with a small smile. It was kind of odd that the filly was acting in such a manner toward him. Halloween then asked him what he was doing running around the woods. "No, I don't have a home." he answered. "I like to see a lot of things, and I have only recently thought about joining a herd. What about yourself?"

Hearing the word home coming from him, Halloween even wondered if she had a place to call home. Shifting uncomfortably, she finally spoke. "Well. I was the Queen of a herd, until something happened that made my mate kick me out and chose some other mare to be his mate. The father of my filly took me to where he lives, but I haven't seen him, or any of the other horses in that herd, since the beginning of winter." Halloween looked down at the ground slightly, sighing sadly. Verridith could tell her mother was upset, and looked at Halloween. Nickering faintly, she walked to her mother's side, nudging her barrel. "Momma. Please don't be sad. We can always find a new home," the filly said softly, and Halloween smiled faintly.
Dark brown eyes turned to Fortinbras, and she tilted her head. "Say, Fortinbras. If you're just going to wander until you find a herd, mind if we tag along? We won't be too much a bother." Verridith looked to the stallion, still a bit wary of him. But, if her mother was starting to trust him, maybe she could. Her small nostrils quivered, as she stepped forward, her muzzle outstretched to smell him a bit better.

F o r t i n b r a s »» So she was, used to be, a queen. Fortinbras found that to be a bit of a shock, especially since she looked so... average and humble. Well like they say, never judge a book by it's cover.
»» Fortinbras relaxed a bit as he listened to the rest of Halloween's story. Poor girl. he thought. She's been through so much and so has her filly. It made Fortinbras a little bit angry that her mate would up and leave her for another mare, and her child's father basically vanished. Fortinbras decided he would delve more into the matter once they were more comfortable with each other. Fortinbras was a wonderful listener. In fact, he would rather listen than offer advice.
»» Luckily Fortinbras was saved from saying something when Verridith butted in telling her mother it would be okay. The black stallion smiled down at the filly. She was certainly special. In all his years he had never seen someone as young as her voice her opinion and act out the way she did. She seemed to like to take charge and attempt to fix issues. Yes, she would make a wonderful leader someday.
»» Halloween then asked if they could wander around with Fortinbras. He gave her a small smile while saying "Of course. I'd love some company. You wouldn't imagine how it is being alone for weeks at a time." Or maybe she would. He had no clue how long they pair had been out here alone. "Well, is there anything you would like to see? I know most of the island fairly well. Surely you haven't seen all of it." he asked her with a certain sparkle in his eyes.

and now that i'm stronger, i have figured out,how this world turns cold, and breaks through my soul. Listening to the stallion, Halloween thought for a moment. Was there anywhere the mare hadn't been before? Frowning, she didn't think so. She had been wandering endlessly before Carzeth had ever found her; and then after Oscurita got her pregnant then diappeared once she was in Aro's land, she just roamed around again.
"I don't think there is a place where I haven't been before. I mean, I surely haven't been in Light or Neutral territories, because, in all honesty, who would want a Dark in their homelands?" She clenched her teeth together. Did she just say the wrong thing? Did Fortinbras even care if she was a Dark or not? Flicking her ears slightly, she lowered her head, her mind buzzing.
Verrdith flicked her tiny tail, still between her mother and Fortinbras. "I wouldn't mind exploring the island more, Mister Fortinbras! I think it would be simply fascinating seeing new places," her eyes sparkled with just how exciting the prospect of seeing the island was. Halloween cheered up slightly at her daughter's words, and looked at the black stallion before them.
"We can go anywhere you want, Fortinbras. Obviously Verridith is starting to warm up to you, and would like to see the rest of Isola." In all truth, Halloween was starting to warm up to the stallion. The way he acted toward them, it was so unlike the Dark stallions she had run across in her life. Perhaps ... this was the start of a new life?

F o r t i n b r a s »» Fortinbras kicked a stone around with his front right hoof, not really noticing it. It felt a little odd for him to be talking to someone for a lengthy amount of time after he had been alone all winter long. The stag looked up as Halloween said soemthing about not going into Light or Neutral lands because she was a Dark. Seh did not seem liek a Dark ro Fortinbras, having been one himself at one time when he was much, much younger.
»» Fortinbras glanced down at the filly as she said that she would like to see more of the island. The ebony looked to Halloween as she said that it was fine to show them around. Fortinbras flashed her smile and looked back to Verridith. "Well then Verridith have you ever been to a beach?" he asked the filly with excitement in his voice.
»» The stag was planning on showing the filly Spiagga del Nord with it's red sands and deep blue waters. It was certainly a beautiful sight. Plus it was warm enough now, and calm enough, that Verridith could play in the ocean. The ocean there was very shallow and gradually got deeper the further one would get out. It was like a big sand bar.

and now that i'm stronger, i have figured out,how this world turns cold, and breaks through my soul. Verrdith's ears pricked forward, and the filly stepped forward a step. "A beach? No, I haven't. Momma and I have been here and in my daddy's herd's land," the dark bay foal glanced back at her mother, then turned her eyes upon the stallion once more. "Can we go now?" Impatient, yes she was. But, she didn't care. She was excited to see places, and a beach sounded great right now. Maybe she could finally stretch her legs.
Halloween smiled sweetly, and moved to her daughter's side. "Lead the way then, Fortinbras," she said softly, her eyes staring at the stallion. He reminded her so much of Carzeth, and it caused her to be a little uneasy. But, perhaps in time, if they had the time, the uneasy feeling would go away. Besides, he wasn't such a bad looking stallion.

F o r t i n b r a s »» The black stallion smiled at Verridith and Halloween. He nodded his head to the left to show them that was the way to go as he started to walk off. Fortinbras actually felt comfortable around Halloween, which was strange. Yes, he had been with quite a few mares when he was younger, but that did not mean that he was comfortable around them.
~~~~
»» After a half hour or so, he led them up the path to the beach. the sand on the path started out, well normal sand colour. As it got closer and closer to the beach the redder it became until it was liek that of the lava rock. Fortinbras smiled and looked to Verridith. "Welcome to Spiagga del Nord." he told her. "And perhaps," he said, looking to Halloween this time "if your mother would allow it, you could go play in the ocean. It's not too deep and it is a nice temperature this time of year."
and now that i'm stronger, i have figured out,how this world turns cold, and breaks through my soul. The eyes of Verridith widened, as they scanned the red sands of Spiagga del Nord. The filly pranced ahead of the two adults, nostrils flaring as she was introduced to the salty air of the sea. "It's so pretty," the filly nickered, as she stopped in the sand, her little hooves almost sinking in entirely due to the gentle waves rolling up onto the shore. Halloween smiled gently, and nodded at Fortinbras. "I don't mind if she plays. As long as she doesn't go too far," the mare said, and Verridith broke out into a canter into the waters. The little bay filly squealed in delight, as she danced around in the sea, her coat darkening from the water.
Watching her foal, Halloween smiled softly to herself. "Thank you so much, Fortinbras. She really needed to stretch her legs. She's been confined to such a small area for so long." The mare flicked her tail behind her slowly, as she too stepped upon the red sands, her body relaxing considerably. It had been quite some time since she had been upon the beaches, that it felt almost foreign to her.
