and as i feared, the water rose, and crashed down upon our canoe ...
"Momma!? Momma, where are you?" The waves churned, bits and peices of wood drifting upon the sea's surface. Lightning crackled over-head, thunder instantly following suit, ripping the sky apart with it's loud booming. Rain poured from the darkened clouds, splashing down into the sea below. "Momma!!?" The storm had missed Isola, but had struck a boat that had been sailing across the sea. Everyone had perished, dragged down to the bottom of the sea when their boat was overturned because of the high waves. Everyone, except a small child, around the age of 10. After the storm had subsided, the gentle rolling of the waves brought the young girl to the beaches of Spiagga Del Nord, pushing the young girl and her little wood-peice boat far up onto the shore.
As she lay there, the sun that was shining down upon her dried her clothes and hair, and she relished the warmth. She had grown too tired to stay awake, and slept, nightmares plaguing her mind. Most were about the terrible wave that broke apart the canoe, and drowned her family.
Hours passed, and finally, the young girl woke up, her black hair plastered to her face. Gentle brown eyes looked around, taking note of the large trees farther away from the beach, and how there were also mountains in the distance. Rubbing her eyes, she winced, realizing that there were several large gashes upon her arm from the broken bits of wood she had tried crawling upon.
Now stranded upon this island, this young human didn't know what she was going to do, or how she was going to survive in such a foreign place. Pushing herself to her feet, she brushed sand off of her browned skin, and pulled seaweed from the deer-skin clothes she wore. A little dress her mother had made for the journey to a new land; the journey that would cost her family their life.
"What would your mother have you do, Epona," the wind seemed to whisper to her, and the girl closed her eyes. Epona was named after the horse goddess, and she was named rightly so. She loved horses, loved being around them, and the horses loved being around her. Little did Epona know, that she had been deserted upon an island full of the four-legged creatures, and that these horses weren't like any she would ever run into.[/blockquote] character. The painted outline of an equine could be faintly seen on the edge of the horizon. The stag walked with a heavy gait, hooves sinking into the floor and leaving an impression along the wet sand that lined the waves. However, the marks only lasted for a few seconds before the shallow waves washed up and erased any trace that he'd ever walked the land. He'd found a herd to become acquainted with since he'd washed up along this very shore, but he couldn't help but find his way back to it for a second look. The first time he'd come here, he'd been so focused on the fact that he was free again, that he hadn't bothered too much with the visual beauty of the said landscape. But now, he could process and analyze it as much as he wanted--he had all the time in the world. The painted stag lifted his head proudly, giving a soft shake of his tri-colored mane as he ventured on, audits relaxed, though pricked enough so that he may still be aware of any other horse or creature that wanted to mess with his head. However, voices and sounds weren't anything close to what would capture his attention. The stallion's deep brown eyes scanned the horizon before him, rolling their gaze over the rolling waves before finally locking on a foreign figure--a human. Not an adult, yet not a complete infant. She was partly soaked, with some sand still clinging to her skin and clothes. A troubled expression seemed to wash over the stag's face as he drew closer to her. Why was she here? Had she been on a boat that'd crashed as well, like his had? How had she made it ashore, alive? Curiosity flooded his thoughts rather quickly, drawing a new question with each step he drew closer. She didn't seem like a threat--no, he'd been around enough humans to know the difference between which were a threat and which weren't. The brute gave a soft nicker to the girl, hoping to capture her attention, though also hoping not to startle her. He could only imagine the feelings and thoughts that could be running through her mind.

with the sun shining, it was time for a new beginning ...
She had been there for hours now, with no sign of life around her except for the trees, wind, birds, etc., and she was growing quite lonely. She had resorted to sitting down upon the piece of wood she had been lying on, her deep brown eyes looking out to the sea which had claimed her family's life. Epon hadn't been paying attention, otherwise she would've noticed the stallion coming closer to her position in the sand. When he nickered at her, she nearly fell over backwards, obviously being startled by the horse. However, that faded once she saw this horse was curious as to why she was there. Standing up ever so slowly, so she didn't startle Stryker, she smiled faintly.
"Well, hello there. Where'd you come from," she asked softly, taking a few steps forward, her hand outstretched so that he could smell her and get used to her scent. She knew that he could kill her in an instant if he wanted to. Epona was going to trust the stallion, however, even if he was wild. Eyes moved momentarily away from Stryker, to the trees that lined the beach, wondering why she hadn't seen him before. Perhaps he came from down the beach. And in that case, did he live somewhere with other horses? character. EPONA template. LIZZEH 2010 [/blockquote]

The painted stallion held his head low with curiosity as he loomed forward, picking it up quickly as he saw the girl almost flip over backwards due to her surprise in his presence. Ahh, she hadn't been paying much attention. A soft snicker came to his voice as the thought--humans were fun to mess with. Those which didn't hold the stone-cold look were always easily scared by the sheer size of horses. That is, of course, unless they were of the 'miniature' or 'pony' breeds. He drew closer once again, taking note of her smile and warm disposition. She was one of the good ones, there wasn't a doubt lingering in his mind about that. Ebony nostrils quivered as he took in her scent, finally coming to a stopping point about four feet away from the yound girl. Audits twitched softly as she spoke--and he wanted to respond. However, his mind told him to do otherwise. The humans he'd known in the past couldn't understand him if he spelled out something with a hoof or pointed right at whatever he wanted. But could she do otherwise? He was going far out on a limb here, but he figured communication, in any way possible, would be worth a shot. "Well, I actually washed up along here," he said, giving a subtle nod in the direction of the sea, but then turning his head to also nod towards the land. "But now I live deeper inland." he added, almost as if he wanted to try two things at once, practical communication, and verbal. That is, verbal in whatever language horses spoke.

Vodka's Venom ! - What was this? This odd scent? Venom's notrils flared as the scent of the child reached her. This was all new to the mare, not being around humans for her whole life. She was grazing nearby, just to get out of Liberta for a while.
Intriuged, the pregnant mare trudged forward, ears pricked for any movement. Finally, she walked edge of the trees, seeing another stallion and the human child. Venom snorted with fear. What was that?! The child was an odd creature, the only fur Venom could see was on top of her small crania, or what the mare guessed as the child's head. Bright pink eyes looked over the child, and she took a silent step forward, obviously curiosity eating at the mare.
Her attention was then turned to the other stallion next to the child. He could kill the child, as Venom saw, easily. So, she figured he wouldn't want to harm her, or her unborn foal
Cautiously, the pregnant mare stepped from the edge of the trees, watching the child and stallion curiously. The human didn't seem to inflict any harm on the stallion, and she stepped another step forward carefully. Venom had her head up high, nostrils flared and ears pricked, waiting to see the response of the two.
Ivory tail swayed gently at her hocks, and she shifted her weight, trying to keep the extra weight of the foal from tiring her more easily.
Of course, the foal was Lassan's. Venom never would've guessed they would end up together. She had always thought he never shared her feeling for him. But, he did. And how he took her in, even though she was carrying another stallion's foal, he hadn't been harsh, like she had expected him to be about Polaris. But, Polaris was like a son to him, as Lassan a father to Polaris. But. the future holds of uncertainty, children. - ![/blockquote] Running through the monsoon Beyond the world, to the end of time [/sup] Muse ! with the sun shining, it was time for a new beginning ...
An eyebrow tilted upward slightly, and the little Native American girl frowned. She didn't really understand what this stallion was going on about. Eyes watched the stallion nod at the sea, then toward the island. A smile then crossed her face, as she realized what the stallion was trying to tell her. "Oh, you didn't originally live here, just like me! You were washed up upon the beach, just like I had been, and you now live within the isle!" As soon as this came out of the girl's mouth, she heard a rustling nearby. Her head turned slowly, and noticed another horse had came out of the brush, violet eyes staring at the two before her. Epona was quite startled at first, for she had never seen a horse with such odd colors before. What had happened for her to have eyes as such?
Epona didn't move from where she stood before Stryker, staring at Venom, her mouth agape. What exactly was she supposed to do with two horses around her, both wild beyond imaging? Eyes swept over the mare's body, and she knew in an instant that this mare was pregnant. So that meant there were more horses upon the island than just these two. Eyes went back to Stryker, as if asking if he knew this mare or not. Little did she know, that if she stayed upon this isle for a little longer, she would soon be able to understand anything these horses said, and they would soon be able to understand her as well. character. The painted stallion's ears pricked up as more words came out of the small girl's mouth, in the form of a language that was very much foreign to him. Though, he'd heard others speaking it before--such a strange dialect, it was. He could hardly understand a thing except for a few which he'd learned by association. He ran his gaze over the girl. She was just as strange as her dialect. Standing on two legs--how did she keep her balance? and she hardly had a coat of fur except on her head, which was about the size of his maw alone.. His attention, however, was quickly drawn out of it's runaway thought train and taken to a rustle in the bushes and to the sight of an ivory mare. He cocked his head lightly as he examined her as well, stopping shortly once he came across her vibrant pink eyes. Questions ran through his head once more--was she a light? Was she a dark? He'd hardly met many horses on the island except for one which he'd crossed paths with when he'd washed ashore. Having followed her into the land of her herd, he hadn't done much after that but prance around like a love-struck filly now that he was free from halters and saddles again..
Stryker lifted his crown slowly to give a nod to Venom, adding an aknowleding nicker, almost as if to call her forward. He hadn't run into her before, but apparently she shared the same curiosity in this human as he did. Deep brown eyes shifted their attention once again to the girl after zig-zagging back and forth between the two creatures. He nudged her shoulder lightly, as if to test her balance. Surely she must have something up her sleeve if she could prance around on only two legs without coming back down to the ground?
